Are the Ladies of Justice and of Liberty Safe, in Today's Hostile Climate?

Ignore the in-my-face obvious issues and lend all of my attention to unwarranted, groundless non-issues? Not happening!

Filling a Vacated Supreme Court Seat

There was a long list of nominees, which became a short list and from that, the President settled on and then nominated, a man.

By all accounts; a very good man, a very stable and reasonable man, Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

But, it was far from a slam dunk!

There were last minute accusations requiring extended hearings, which went far beyond anything that we've ever seen before!

There were stories and recollections so bizarre, that the writers in Hollywood couldn't possibly top them, but they must have been very impressed by the spectacle of it all and they probably took notes.

We heard chants of "lock him up", "he belongs in jail", almost instantaneously, solely based on uncorroborated accusations and because, apparently, only women are to be listened to!

With additional time given, witnesses questioned, questioned some more and then questioned again, still, there was no evidence, still, there was no corroboration, in the last minute, final seconds, she-said-so accusations and bizarre recollections.

In fact, some recanted or revised their stories and additional information was gathered, in the process, having more to do with the accusers.

I'll not go into that, it's irrelevant at this point and my purpose is not to destroy these women, but I will call them out!

We heard from an elected, sworn-in Democratic Senator, that it really didn't matter about a man's guilt or innocence, Kavanaugh's credibility had been questioned and that was sufficient!

So, based on an accusation alone, a smear campaign ensued, a man's integrity and character would forever be questioned, therefore, he must be found guilty?

That's what Democrats were saying?

That's what one particular Democrat was saying?

I hope your remarks never come back to haunt you Senator Cory Booker!

We went forth with the vote for cloture in the Senate; it ended the debate and discussion on the matter would go to the floor for a vote.

We also heard from Senator Susan Collins, a Republican, whom I have often questioned whether that (R) belongs beside her name.

She is far from conservative and often leans left, but she stated, she would vote yes and was very thorough in making the case to go forth with the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Going Forward

There are always many things that we are asked to put behind us or know that we must in order to move on, certainly in our own personal lives and relationships, but that is also the case with the citizens of this Country.

Whether it be the impeachment of a President or an attack on our Homeland, we are taken aback and shaken for a time and then, it is time to move forward.

We must!

~~~
Kavanaugh went on to be confirmed, but what that man was put through, will stay with him and his family throughout their lives.
It will stay with all of us.
I went from questioning the last minute antics to wanting the accuser and the accused to have equal and ample opportunity in presenting their cases, to cringing over the actions of my fellow man...and woman.
Those that made up their minds long before either party spoke a single word.
The anger and vitriol leveled at this one man, whom they did not know, had never known, did not care to know, tried him and then convicted him, before they knew anything!
They had not one single care for his family, his accomplishments, his character nor the many that vouched for him and for his character.
They did not recognize his due process, for they had found guilt in him already!
Today's Political Climate
Many good things happened in this Country, under the leadership and direction of Donald Trump, a man that we took a chance on and went out on a limb for.
He did make a lot of promises, as politicians will do, but he showed us that actions speak much louder than words!
The not a typical, not so predictable politician...actually followed through on his campaign promises!
Our economy became stronger than it had been in half a century.
There were opportunities galore for those wishing to acknowledge them; to start their own business, change course in their careers, start a family, buy a house....
The climate was right...but for the political climate, that never let up on him.
~~~

During the Kavanaugh inquisition, I could not even hear an interview that Joe Manchin (D) West Virginia was attempting to give, because emotionally charged, activist women were yelling over him and over the interviewers, it was comparable to nails on a chalkboard.

All that I was able to get out of it was an assumption that he, Manchin, must have been planning to give a "yes" on the confirmation of Kavanaugh.

Although Kavanaugh was eventually confirmed, I, for one, did not celebrate nor breathe a sigh of relief, because of all that had transpired.

The unprecedented abuse of two men, President Trump and Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh was intense, ugly, destructive and so very unnecessary!

For political gain alone, many on the left were/are willing to do whatever they need to do, even if it means destroying lives.

I pray that a man in my life is never falsely accused, because I've seen what can happen in today's ugly political climate

I wonder if the unruly, hate-filled activist women who made a name for themselves throughout the Trump years, have ever taken the time to look around for silver linings and I wonder if at any point, they've considered the men in their lives and what their behavior must be doing to them!
Do they care?

I think we have all seen enough of what it has done to this Nation!

“I would love to be able to regulate the content of speech, the 1st Amendment prevents me from doing so.”

- Rep. Ted Lieu (D) California

Our Founding Fathers knew (from History) that so-called Representatives, like this dude, would come along and do irreparable harm, if limitations were not placed on them.

Our great Republic is under assault by people like Rep. Lieu (D). Democrats and ‘group think’ must be stopped, not elevated to a majority in this Nation.

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida on October 07, 2018:

There’s talk from the Left about impeaching Justice Kavanaugh (What!?!) as they continue to invoke the 25th Amendment, questioning President Trump’s mental stability to serve (we are thriving!) all while they call the U.S. Constitution obsolete and want to do away with the electoral college and the Supreme Court to boot!

So, everything that has worked for nearly 250 years and is currently working, as it was designed to do, should be tossed aside because the Dems think mob rule and bully tactics are the way to go from here on out.

Let’s vote them out America! They are cra-cra! (Disclaimer: Fact, not hate speech)

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on October 06, 2018:

Us crazy Christian folks remind us and take solace and inspiration from a fine politician of religion. His name was Saul. Horrible man. His rebirth was Paul, great man. And bared his soul in laying forth troubles: "So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan." This loving tradition has been passed to our newest greatest jurist. Something like 2 Cor. 12.

And we are heartened by a wisdom of prose of years ago by our friend Billy : "To be, or not to be: that is the question:

Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer

The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles." I dig the later.

We who stand for liberty will be constantly assaulted and should bathe in it. For it is the forward, and where so many want to go backwards that we must press on. Remove the reverse gear in my car ;-)

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida on October 06, 2018:

Confirmed. Well done.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on October 06, 2018:

I just can't imagine that our news services are not looking at maybe a %2 of Americans on either side of radicalism. And I think it is incumbant on both sides to call out the fringe elements. I don't think that, "I did not support" works here. I think that is our biggest problem with Muslim mainstream wonderful people. They just do not go all ballistic on those freaks with bombs.

I think the same with radical partisans. They are fearful that they may not seem Like true.... if they criticize one of "their own".

We do not need fringe elements but we do need the push and pull of a split democracy.

Just as an observance I think the democrats just took two steps backwards in supporting the radical fringe elements of hate.

This is liberty. And you and I have the same right to challenge those with us as those against us. And of course the twin notion, we have the right to agree with someone on the other side on any particulars.

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida on October 06, 2018:

Well stated Ken, per usual. Thanks for sharing.

It was so refreshing watching the Republicans stand up to bully tactics ...for a change!

They've always been the accommodating Party and I believe they finally realize that no longer works, not with what the Dem Party has become.

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida on October 06, 2018:

Hi Virginia, thanks for checking in, we are in agreement.

Did you see Dinesh D'Souza's latest movie? He touches on Soros and his background. It is eye opening!

Ken Burgess from Florida on October 06, 2018:

Eric,

Valid point, how far back does one go, how long does one hold a grudge for old wrongs (real or perceived).

One could argue this began with Bork and Thomas, and the attacks on them, and that the Clinton Impeachment was in some way retribution for those perceived slights.

But I feel this is more people who feel wronged that a majority of people (however small that majority is) has voted the Democrats out of power and rejected what they were producing.

We had the Tea Party movement that started in earnest after the Democrats rammed the ACA down America's throat even though polls showed 75% of Americans didn't want it, and didn't trust Congress with it.

Since then, other than the re-election of Obama, it has been a steady set of defeats at all levels for Democrats, and instead of listening to the people and changing what they are offering, they have been doubling down on their rhetoric, and become filled with animosity, resentment and accusatory toward anyone they consider the 'enemy'.

When I say Democrats, I mean their leadership, the likes of Maxine Waters, have become unhinged and are calling their 'believers' to illegal acts and civil disobediance... to 'resist'... to 'falsely accuse is justified' ... I'm sorry but the Republicans were voted in to resist their nonsense and have done so, if the people wanted what the Democrats are pushing down their throats, they never would have lost power.

And now we have Kavanaugh, who is not like Bill Clinton, who had multiple rape accusations against him from before he was even running for President, and multiple sexual misconduct charges from after he became President. That was a real predator. Hollywood and the Democratic Party seem filled with them. But that isn't convenient for them, accusing Kavanaugh of something that happened when he was in High School is. Even if there is not a shred of evidence to support it.

I always wonder about folks being confused yet striking an adamant tone. Just an observance. Confused "by" would mean a lack of understanding of one's position. I certainly hope I do not confuse your thoughts.

"There are many things we are asked to put behind us, in order to move on, certainly in our own personal lives, but also as citizens of this Country. Whether it's the impeachment of a President or an attack on our Homeland, we are taken aback and shaken for a time and then it is time to move on, we must!"

You ask a serious question and I answer in your own words.

Virginia North Skok from Beaufort S.C. on October 06, 2018:

Good morning Pop and AB

I watched that pitiful display and my first thought was Adulf Hitler. This is how Germany led there young boys. Check Soros's past...

How can you sell yourself like you were a product? This is always my thinking....

We will have a red wave in Nov.

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida on October 06, 2018:

It is a historic day Pop, but so much damage has been done in getting here.

I was just watching groups of people repeat after the leader, word for word for word, as their marching orders were given in going forth to wreak havoc. They never learn. They are like sheep. Sad!

The left has gone too far, they've lost their way. I expect to see a red wave in November.

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida on October 06, 2018:

Thank you Tim, I have had no issues with Eric, not sure where this is coming from.

I appreciate all of my friends here at HP and value your opinions. Each of you bring your own uniqueness to the table and are always welcome at mine.

breakfastpop on October 06, 2018:

I believe the Dems will get slammed in the mid-terms. I doubt such a defeat will do anything to improve their disgusting behavior, but they will still lose time and time again. The bad news is that the crazies are out of their cages, and getting them to calm down will be next to impossible. The rest of us will have to soldier on. If voters used their heads instead of their anger perhaps we could get people like Pelose,, Booker, Schumer, Warrem and Waters out of Washington and into oblivion. Today's vote will be historic.

Tim Truzy from U.S.A. on October 06, 2018:

Great work, Abwilliams,

Loved it.

Hopefully, you and Eric patch things up because you two are like wonderful fountains that keep me inspired with your original content and deep thoughts.

Much respect and admiration,

Tim

A B Williams (author) from Central Florida on October 06, 2018:

Thanks for commenting Eric, but now I’m confused.

I understand that you and T were having a heated back and forth, but you brought me into it and accused me of some pretty awful things for no legitimate reason.

Am I to just ignore that, as if it never happened?

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on October 06, 2018:

AB there is an old phrase "character assassination". I understand that some politicos emphatically opposed Kavanaugh before he was nominated. In fact they just opposed anyone POTUS would pick ahead of time. And from there it was a brutal attack.

Not one Democrat Representative gained voters through this. That radical base was long since solidified.

Headline: "Trump Is On a Winning Streak" and that is from CNN. The contempt prior to investigation from both sides is being shown for what it is.

I believe it was Chico who said "who you going to believe? Me or your eyes?".
