I Am a Proud American Who Just Happens to be Conservative; My Path to Conservatism

I took an interest in Politics at a very young age. The Goldwater-Johnson race fascinated me and I've been paying attention ever since.

Jimmy Carter - 39th President of the United States

Jimmy Carter - 39th President of the United States

The Hand Wringing President

I was in high school when Jimmy Carter burst onto the scene, running to be the President of the United States.

A peanut farmer from Plains; soft spoken, plain speaking, Jimmy Carter, was all the rage, he seemed to come out of nowhere, in from his peanut farm in Georgia, the people said okay and into the White House he went!

I didn't give him a thought one way or the other, he seemed like a nice man and he was the President, that was as much thought as I gave him initially.

It turned out, the soft spoken, plain speaking man from Plains, was a long way from Georgia and in way, way over his head!

He was not a born-leader, he was a born appeaser.

There is a place for appeasers, but it is definitely not as the Commander-in-Chief of the United States of America!

On foreign policy, Carter failed miserably. He thought, if only Israel would give more territory to the Palestinian territories and if only Israel would continually stay on the high road, if only Israel would give and then give some more, if only, they'd forget about the constant target on their heads.....if only!

But everything was always and only asked of and expected from...Israel!

Appeasement.

It has always been evident that the more Israel gives, the more aggressive their enemy becomes. It is non-ending, because their enemy doesn't want territory, they do not want harmony, they do not want peace.Their want, their ultimate desire...is that Israel not exist. (I figured that one out, all on my own, a long time ago)

In the case of the Iran hostage crisis, Carter believed that with time and with patience, with more talks and with more diplomacy, if we'd give and then give some more, the captors would capitulate and the hostages would be freed.

Appeasement.

They were not released and it wore on and on, much too long, before a failed rescue attempt.

He was seen as weak, therefore, America was seen as weak!

The leftist dream, if we'll just give this and just give that and if we talk it over just a little more. If we could just be more diplomatic and show more love, the bad guys will be understanding and will love us back.

It still exists today.

Haven't we heard this often?

More so, lately?

Carter always seemed to be looking out for a foreign interest or any other interest over America's best interest and as a result, it backfired and left him expertly...wringing his hands!

Ronald Wilson Reagan - Constitutional Conservative and 40th President of the United States

Ronald Wilson Reagan - Constitutional Conservative and 40th President of the United States

With Jimmy Carter, morale was at an all time low and then...in like Flynn, bursts Ronald Wilson Reagan!

Once upon a time in America, when there were gas lines and when we would spend our evenings watching television footage of blindfolded, captive Americans, as they were mocked and paraded through the streets of a foreign land, morale was at an all time low!

We were witnessing a President, in over his head and at a loss, as to what to do next.....

But then, in came Ronald Reagan, without hesitation as to what to do next, no time for hand wringing or sulking, it was all about getting the hostages, our fellow Americans, back home....and so he did!

He was not like anyone else and he wasn't buying that our best days were over and behind us, far from it...he believed that America was still great and had never ceased to be!

He did not spew scripted words.

He spoke encouraging words, which he believed in!

I started to get engaged.

I was intrigued by this man.

I began to truly understand that we were not a lost cause.

Our best days were not behind us!

We were still the greatest Country that God gave man!

I started hearing the word 'conservative'.

Of course, I would come to find out, that many had a problem with that word, with him, but as for me, conservatism and what Ronald Reagan represented, had me...all in.

After all, as a teenager, I was witnessing, first hand, the opposite of conservatism....I was witnessing, liberalism/socialism/progressivism...in action and it was inconvenient, unpleasant, expensive and something I wanted no part of!

I was young, I had a life to live and I was spending it in long gas lines, only allowed to purchase a few gallons of costly gasoline at a time, making sure that my allotted supply lasted until my next appointed day!

I was watching, as U.S. citizens, held captive in Iran, were defiantly being flaunted in our faces...for the entire World to see, each and every night on the evening News.

When my adult life was just getting started, nothing but doom and gloom was on the horizon.....

Reagan; Strong Leader

Reagan came in with a peace through strength philosophy.

Yes, he, like the majority of the World, wanted peace and yes, he, like the majority of the world, did not want to be at war, but he also recognized that a dangerous element exists and they live with the hope of gaining power or worse, they live to destroy!

He instinctively knew (it is common sense, not rocket science) that you can't take your eye off of the enemy, not for a single minute! Therefore, you MUST have a strong military in place.

A dangerous element knows when there is a strong leader in charge, backed by a strong military and a supportive constituency and when there is not!

I believe that Jimmy Carter is a good man with a good heart and that as President, he really thought he could build bridges, bring peace and end all war Forever.

"Only the dead have seen the end of war" - Plato

A lot of us have been hoping and praying for another conservative, another Reagan:

  • Strong in Faith with defined core principles.
  • A strong constitutionalist, a strong defender of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness
  • Believes in small government and in a strong and capable military.
  • A leader that believes in more self-reliance and less government hand-outs and gimmes.
  • Recognizes the capabilities of the Individual and knows that small businesses can be run successfully, if only the government will stay out of their way (and that it doesn't take a village!)
  • Understands that parents know what is best for their own children, not the government and that Parents should always be in control of the decision making, when it comes to their child's education.

Senator Ted Cruz (Texas)

Senator Ted Cruz (Texas)

Always in the Minority

I believe that we had that man...in Ted Cruz, but we sent him packing.

I was in the minority, putting my support behind a Tea Party endorsed candidate.

I was in the minority, voting for Senator Ted Cruz in the Primary.

I was in the minority, understanding why Ted Cruz had to stop short of endorsing Trump at the Republican Convention.

I was in the minority defending him for doing so and I was in the minority, backing a Constitutional Conservative!

We are left with the political parties strong and intact, the Country right now....eh....not so much!

Sometimes it is difficult to tell which Party is which.

I've had it with the showboating and with the insincerity and with the pandering!

Don't spew what you think I want or need or must hear, tell me what you really believe in, at your core, and I'll take it from there!

That's not only my job, but my responsibility!

But, here we are, it has come down to Trump v. Clinton.

I'm leaning toward Trump, mainly because he picked a strong conservative with his selection of Mike Pence, as his V.P. choice.

I could never...I would never, pull the lever for Hillary Clinton.

She has shown us all and shown us often, the kind of person she is.

Ms. Clinton is on some sort of power trip, as if she is entitled to the Office.

She thinks she has earned this and that she deserves the Presidency.

We must never have a Coronation Day, not in this Country.

George Washington was very clear on this, there would be no crowning of Kings and/or Queens...not here, not in America!

So many people are torn about this election and too many will just be sitting it out.

I personally don't like that Ted Cruz, the candidate most like my favorite President Ronald Reagan, was pushed out by a much larger personality.

But, I doubt we've seen the last of Senator Cruz.

We need to take his good and practical advice and always vote our conscience!

Being Conservative isn't complicated!

God Bless America, Land that I love!

Thanks for commenting Oscar.

I'm really pulling for President Trump. I've had some doubts, but I've never questioned his Patriotism and genuine Love of Country.

Such a refreshing change from what we had, when we had Obama.

HI. A lot of what you have said here is true.. looking back, some of our presidential choice has created a sad saga of defeatism by the original fighters of freedom, the AMERICAN PEOPLE. Yes the last president sold us out all over the map. Ms Hillary was set to keep us sold out and an open door to violators of freedom. Now Mr. Trump . Of all his best traits is his patriotism. We hope his desire to help big business is moderated by knowing he has a family and that they must live in the environment he helps create around industry. But the huge chasm between the democrats and republicans is dividing us in such a way at top levels that any of our enemies can gloat and poke us, knowing that without unity of our legislators over such things as defense and foreign policy that we can't adequately defend ourselves. We ARE vulnerable because Americans have allowed ourselves to become passive and allowed counter-Constitution lobby and policy to thrive to the point we need a good roto- rooting inside the capital and inside the D.O.D. to remove rotten potatoes. good hub! GOD BLESS AMERICA AGAIN!

Move forward 35 years...Reports are coming out that the Obama Administration paid ransom for the Release of 4 Americans which were being detained in Iran. (January 2016)

They are denying it!

This is how Democrats operate......if they are not wringing their hands in frustration, they are appeasing, cutting deals and/or paying cash money for the Release of hostages!

Also, more reports will be coming out as to why the American Embassy in Benghazi was attacked, yes, looks as if it will be....."The Rest of the Story"

Why do Americans elect these People?
