Franklin Graham May Be Forced to Resign From Samaritan's Purse

The downfall of Evangelicals

This post is not about being Republican or Democrat but about those who say they are Christians. Jerry Falwell Jr. is not in the ministry but was heading the largest religious university in the world. When his father Jerry Sr. died he left a legacy with the college, going to his namesake and his ministry bequeathed to son Jonathan. Although he has not been licensed and ordained to the pulpit, Falwell Jr. is still a religious leader and as such expected to adhere to the rules and regulations that are set forth for students at Liberty. In recent months Jerry Jr. had a photo taken where he was in blackface and another where he was hugging a woman who was not his wife and both of their pants were unzipped. These two incidents came on the heels of other things that many Americans believed to be beneath the Chancellor of Liberty and the final straw came when Falwell admitted his wife had an affair with their former pool boy. To date, three young men have made allegations that they had sexual relations with Falwell's wife Becki and one said Jerry Jr. liked to watch. For many, the issues are not about judging because every human being has shortcomings but it's an issue of responsibility. Jerry Falwell Jr.was imposing strict regulations on the students at Liberty University, while not abiding by them himself. Most Christians expect leaders to walk their talk. Another issue is Graham's very public support of Donald Trump, which is what he and Billy Graham's namesake have in common.

Franklin Graham followed in his father's footsteps as a minister but his support of Donald Trump has ruffled the feathers of a lot of practicing Christians. Graham recently prayed for Trump at the Republican National Convention and thanked God for the bounty and favor that has come upon American since Donald Trump became president but millions of Americans are suffering.

Franklin is no Billy Graham

Both Franklin Graham and Jerry Falwell Jr. have been exceeding, abundant, and above in their support for Donald Trump, promoting him as God's choice' for America. They ignore the fact that the popular vote went to Hilary by over 3 million and say God put number 45 in office. The Liberty board decided enough is enough and asked Falwell to resign and now thousands of Christians desire to see Franklin Graham do the same. Every American over age 18 has the right to vote and choose the candidate of their liking. What Graham, Falwell, and other Evangelicals have done is to place Donald Trump on a pedestal and support him even though he is full of controversy. Donald Trump's own mouth is his worst enemy and many Christians are tired of hearing him bragged on when they can see with their own eyes that number 45 is destroying the nation. No one is trying t take away the rights of Evangelicals but many want them to remember that it is Jesus they serve and not Donald Trump. Both Jerry Falwell and Billy Graham were outspoken but never did they like their sons promote one president in such a manner. There are concerned Christians who do not believe Donald Trump is a good president and that he promotes hate, racism, and division. These individuals do not think the current president represents Christianity in the manner that the Bible requires. Franklin Graham voting for Donald Trump is one thing, but to say he has brought prosperity to the nation when 40 million Americans are facing eviction is quite ridiculous. This why within 3 days the petition to oust Franklin Graham has gone from having 10,000 to more than 12,000 signatures.

Accountability and not judgment

Becky Falwell said that her husband Jerry had forgiven her but many Christians had not. This issue is not about judgment, it is about accountability. You can forgive someone but still, hold them accountable for their actions. The Liberty board has to do what is in the best interest of the students and the college. Most Americans agree that Donald Trump's presidency has been about hate and controversy and do not believe Franklin Graham supporting Trump in such an extreme manner is good for the charity work that Samaritan's Purse does worldwide. If indeed Graham is required to relinquish his role, then other Evangelical leaders may be held accountable by their constituents. We are living in troubled times and it probably will get worse as we head towards the November election. You cannot preach the love of Jesus while paling around with a president who exudes so much hate. People see this as hypocritical. Supporting homophobia, Islamophobia, and Neo-Nazi rhetoric, by promoting hate and division is not Christlike nor is it very American.

I hadn't heard of this but I would be so surprised if he isn't asked to leave. Hopefully the people in power takes decisive action. Leaders really need to practice what they preach.

It was shocking news and I am not surprised that people are asking him to vacate his office. Each day seems to be laden with one shock after another in the news reports. Let us hope and pray that the upcoming elections affect change for the betterment of our country.
