1. Heat waves

HEAT WAVES

Much of the news broadcast was spent talking about the intense heat waves going on this summer around much of the world.

The intense heat is fueling multiple wildfires.

The excessive heat waves are suspected to be caused by greenhouse gas emissions.

In the London, England area, homes are said to be built to retain heat and only about 1% of homes there have air conditioning.

The people are generally spending a lot of time outdoors, but are feeling uncomfortably hot.

In the U.S., 124 million people are under heat alert.

Temperatures in the triple digits are expected in Houston, Texas for the next ten days.

Footage was shown of a large white van falling fully into a sinkhole in the Bronx, New York.

2. Explosion at the Hoover Dam

2. EXPLOSION AT THE HOOVER DAM


There was an explosion at the Hoover Dam that is situated on the Colorado River. The explosion alarmed tourists to the area. The explosion was on the Arizona side of the over 700 foot dam. Hoover Dam helps to provide water and electricity to many areas including parts of Nevada and parts of California.

3. Anger & frustration at school board meeting in Uvalde, Texas

ANGER & FRUSTRATION AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING IN UVALDE, TEXAS


Relatives of Robb Elementary School shooting victims including the uncle of one victim and the sister of another victim voiced their frustrations at a school board meeting in Uvalde, Texas.

Among numerous findings, it has been found that Robb Elementary School did not meet standards of preparedness and was not fully equipped to handle such an attack on the school, its students and employees.

Before the start of the new school year, other schools in the area will now focus on issues of installing more cameras and checking door locks, for example.

4. First Lady of Ukraine visiting USA

Ukraine President Zelensky's wife, the first lady of Ukraine is currently visiting the U.S. and posed for photographs with U.S. President Joe Biden and U.S. First Lady Jill Biden at the White House.

5. Shark sightings

SHARK SIGHTINGS


Shark sightings in New York, off the coast of Long Island, have caused government officials to close several beaches in the Rockaways.

There have been more shark sightings in the area in the last two years than in the last whole decade.

6. Netflix

NETFLIX


Netflix has revealed that they lost nearly 1 million subscribers in the last quarter.

They will be aiming to re-gain that number of subscribers soon.

7. Lottery players

LOTTERY PLAYERS

  • Lottery players, Perry Charles and Scott Edwards who are best friends from Lexington, North Carolina made a pact to share lottery winnings if one of them wins the lottery. Now, one of them has indeed won over $300,000 and they have split the winnings 50/50.
  • A woman in Kentucky named Crystal Dunn is also a big lottery winner. She won over $100,000 in the lottery. She then immediately bought $2,000 worth of $25 gift cards and started handing them out to fellow customers at Meijer supermarket, her preferred grocery store for shopping.
