Build the Wall

James A. Watkins is an entrepreneur, musician, and a writer with four non-fiction books and hundreds of magazine articles read by millions.

What is a Nation?

A nation is a group of people with a common identity that they do not share with others. They have mutual ancestors, heroes, history, culture, traditions, customs, and language. Globalism aims to eliminate nations and erase all borders. Globalists intend to rule the world through unelected ‘experts.’ They promote unlimited legal and illegal migration of Third World Peoples into America and Europe – to rip apart those bonds that tie nations together.

A country has a right to establish and defend its borders. The first duty of a state is to protect its citizens within its borders. Fundamental to this duty is to have and enforce laws concerning who can cross your boundaries, and who can move into your country to stay by becoming a citizen. Those who would sneak into your country by illegally crossing its border show disdain for your country and its citizens. If you can violate immigration law with impunity, why should you obey any laws?

Democrats Want Open Borders

Democrats want Open Borders, declares the New York Times: “The existing border wall must be torn down so that anyone can freely enter the United States. Criminal sanctions on illegal entry must be repealed. Illegal aliens living in America must be made citizens and given the right to vote in our national elections.”

AOC says all Latinos have the right to come live in America because they descend from native peoples, and the USA sits on entirely native lands. She favors a "Reconquista" war against Americans to take California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. AOC says immigration laws should not apply to the 550,000,000 Latinos who live south of our border.

Notice that invaders come carrying the flags of the nations from which they flee instead of our flag where they seek refuge. They celebrate the countries they left but hold America in contempt, shouting, “Uncle Sam Stole Our Land!” At an Open Borders protest in California, a banner read: “If you think I’m illegal because I’m a Mexican, learn the true history because I’m in my homeland.” One activist said, “If 50 million of my people come here, we can take our land back.”

Walls Are Good

Walls are good. Had it not been for walls, Christendom would not have survived the onslaught of Islam, notably during the Muslim sieges of Vienna in 1529 and 1683. In 1456, 6,000 Christian soldiers successfully defended the walls of Belgrade from a Muslim army of 50,000. In 1565 the walls of the Grand Harbor in Malta enabled fewer than 7,000 Christians to withstand an assault by 50,000 Muslims. And yes, the Vatican is surrounded by the Leonine Walls, 40 feet high and 12 feet thick, erected by St. Leo IV in 850 to defend against the Muslims.

Wealthy Americans live behind walls that surround their property or gated communities. They know that walls work. That's why military bases, government buildings, and the Obama home have them.

Chad Wolf declares, “Walls work. They’re an undeniable impediment to human smugglers, drug traffickers, and other criminals who have exploited our lack of effective border infrastructure. Looking at wall construction historically, we see that when walls go up, illegal apprehensions and illegal crossings go down. A wall system went up in San Diego; illegal crossings went down 27%. A wall system went up in Tucson; illegal crossings went down 24%. In Yuma, Arizona, when the wall system went up, illegal crossings in that area decreased by over 78%. The facts simply do not lie.”

Today, 65 countries have built or are building new walls to prevent unwanted migrants from entering the country. Morocco built a 1,700-mile wall. Saudi Arabia has a 560-mile barrier against Iraq. Turkey has a 90-mile bulwark against Iran, is planning a barrier against Iraq, and has a 566-mile wall on its border with Syria. Hungary has a 110-mile, 13-foot-high fence against Serbia. There is a 2,500-mile barbed wire fence between India and Pakistan. Hungary built a wall, and illegal border crossings dropped 99.6% from 391,384 to 1,418.

Even the far left-wing extremists at the NY Times admit Israel's Wall has been an incredible success, stopping 99% of illegal border crossings, dropping from 16,000 a year to about 20. Israel built a security barrier against the West Bank, and terrorism decreased by 90%. Egypt constructed a wall on its border with Gaza. Slovenia erected one to block an invasion by illegal aliens. Iran is building one to stop drug smuggling from Pakistan. Iraq has constructed one along its border with Syria. France has too built a barricade on part of its borders, specifically to control illegal immigration. Lithuania has put up a wall along its borders with Russia. Estonia, same thing. Norway constructed a barricade along its frontier with Russia to stem illegal immigration.

Except for Antarctica, there are partial or completed border barriers all over the world today. The past three years have seen almost 1,000 miles of border barriers built on various European borders. All of this wall building is the opposite of the Berlin Wall, erected by Socialists to keep its citizens from leaving, not to keep invaders out.

A wall now separates Bulgaria from Turkey. Saudi Arabia constructed a 47-mile barrier along its border with Yemen, has erected a steel wall against Kuwait, and is working on a 600-mile-long “Great Wall” on its border with Iraq. Next, the Saudis will build a moat on its border with Qatar. Kenya is working on a 440-mile barrier from Somalia. The United States paid for a 125-mile barrier between Tunisia and Libya.

India is building a 2,116-mile barbed-wire border barrier against Bangladesh, topped with flood lamps. The lamps are there so that the guards can see. They are armed, and they will shoot intruders on sight. In fact, in most countries, defense of the border is backed by firepower. While America has less than 20,000 border guards, India has 257,363 of them, divided into military battalions.

The Purpose of the Wall

One problem at America's southern border is the sheer volume of illegal aliens who pour across it. They include countless criminals and gang members, and not a few terrorists. Also, a massive amount of drugs come across, as well as disease. Add to that a crisis of human smuggling and sex slavery. However, the United States spends ten times more money to provide border security for other countries than we pay to protect our southern border.

In 2019, 859,000 people were caught trying to sneak into our country. At least 150,000 successfully snuck in. This goes on year after year. Among those apprehended were more than 16,000 criminals, with convictions ranging from sex crimes to homicide to drug trafficking. Border patrol stopped 1,200 gang members and confiscated 1,700 weapons. Close to a million pounds of marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl are seized each year along the border. The fact is Mexico is a failed state run by drug cartels.

Scroll to Continue

At least twenty million illegal aliens are living in America. There are 1,700,000 Central American Illegal Aliens residing in the United States who have been ordered deported but refuse to leave, including 574,170 from Mexico, 446,551 from El Salvador, 380,912 from Guatemala, 339,443 from Honduras. Sanctuary cities protect them.

Illegal Aliens and Anchor Babies

Democrats try to claim that the only opposition to illegal immigration is racism. That is a lie. Americans would be just as opposed to tens of millions of Russians sneaking into our country. People from 72 countries have been nabbed trying sneak into America this year, including from 19 nations in Africa. Chinese nationals represent the largest migrant group currently being apprehended, outside of Mexican and Central American migrants.

Three hundred thousand anchor babies are born to illegal aliens every year. They are immediately rewarded American citizenship simply because their foreign parents delivered them in the parameters of the nation’s borders. Today, there are at least 5 million anchor babies in the United States.

Immigrants should not come to America unless they love America and want to become Americans. They should not come here to live off of American taxpayers, with a sense of entitlement, and certainly not with a sense of grievance in their hearts.

Hordes of illegal aliens have swarmed in demanding the right to stay, as well as free housing, food, education, medical care, and the right to vote in our elections. They have far lower than average levels of cognitive ability, knowledge, and skills. They come from countries with remarkably different cultures from ours, which makes it hard for them to assimilate. To compound the problem, they are encouraged by Democrats not to try to become Americans but instead to retain the cultural values of the failed society from which they flee.

A Word from Michael Savage

Michael Savage observes: “California had the best schools in the country in 1974, now they’re the worst. What happened? The mass flood of illegal aliens, who became the darlings of the education establishment. Illegal aliens have destroyed the state and the city of San Francisco.

"People go, 'oh, they come here to work.' Bullsh*t, they come here to work. If you look at the rate of abuse of the welfare system, and the hospitals are overwhelmed. I speak to doctors, I speak to nurses. The healthcare system has been destroyed in this state. I think we’re going to enter years and years, if not decades of darkness.

“I see the mass of illegal immigrants, who are illiterate even in their own language. They have none of our shared values. They will never be Americans and embrace the values that built this country. They’ve been steeped in hatred for this nation by the media and the universities. And they have a very dim view of our nation, even though they love the benefits."

Michael Savage

Democrats and Illegal Aliens Disdain the Rule of Law

Democrats lure illegal aliens to the United States with promises of free goodies and treat them better than American citizens. Democrats reward bad behavior. Thirty-two thousand illegal aliens occupy free public housing right now that was built for poor American citizens. The Rule of Law is not imperative to them, but it is what makes for a civilized society. Among illegal aliens, there is an epidemic of identity theft, forged government documents, and fake social security numbers.

As Victor Davis Hanson notes: “In truth, illegal aliens lose respect for their hosts, concluding that if Americans do not care to enforce their own laws, foreign nationals need not abide by them either. In reductionist terms, when an immigrant’s first act when entering the United States involves breaking the law, then all subsequent violations become only that much easier.”

Once the illegal aliens are here, they become almost impossible to get rid of. Our federal immigration courts are overwhelmed, with well over a million backlogged cases. It takes two years for an illegal alien to be brought to court, and many do not show up. We have lost control over who is in our country and where they are.

President Bill Clinton (1995)

President Bill Clinton (1995)

Bill Clinton Speaks

“All Americans, not only in the States most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. Their use of public services imposes burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.” (PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON, 1995)

The Democrats of today do not hold those views. They condemn those views. That is because they realize that the future of their party depends on legal immigrants and illegal aliens. To attain the political power they lust for - so that they can destroy the America they despise and replace it with a totalitarian dystopia - they must change the demographics of our voters. They need open borders to import future Democrats. Ninety percent of illegal aliens say they would vote for Democrats if they could legally vote. Millions of illegals voted in the 2018 election thanks to motor-voter bills and states' refusal to require voter ID.

Jobs Americans Won't Do?

None of this means that to favor building a big, beautiful wall on our southern border is to be against legal immigration. The United States has a larger legal immigrant population than any other country, with 50 million foreign-born citizens. Every sixth American is an immigrant. However, illegal aliens comprise 5% of our labor force.

Now let dispel a persistent myth: There are no jobs Americans won’t do. There are jobs Americans won't do for $3 an hour. The liberal propaganda is that no one would perform specific needful tasks if not for illegal aliens. That is demonstrably false. Work is not going to go undone if all illegal aliens are deported.

My wife and I drove across US-2 not long ago from Seattle to Minnesota - the northernmost federal highway, right up near the Canadian border. Amazingly, we saw white people working as busboys, waiters, hotel maids, landscapers, and construction workers. One day, I saw a line two blocks long outside my hotel window. I asked the desk clerk, "What are all those people doing out there?" She said they were lining up to pick apples today. They were all white. People who want things done will pay what they have to pay to have it done. They always have.

People do those jobs in Saskatchewan, Scotland, Iceland, Finland, and all sorts of advanced places even though they do not have millions of illegal aliens. They do them for $10-20 an hour.

The Democrats Say We Cannot Afford the Wall

Democrats claim we cannot afford to build the Wall. Under Obama in 2016, the nonpartisan CBO estimates $310 billion was spent on unauthorized spending. Also, every Christmas Senator Rand Paul issues a Waste Report on government spending. This year, it shows $115 billion of wasted money, e.g., the NIH spent more than $800,000 to study the sex lives of quails high on cocaine. On and on it goes – thousands upon thousands of line items in the budget for stupid, foolish, shocking, disturbing, depressing, useless programs; outrageous examples of how our federal government spends the hard-earned tax dollars of citizens. But we cannot come up with $10 billion for a Wall?

We Need to Keep Mexico Over There

We need the Wall because Mexico has become quite barbaric, with waves of violent crime that gets worse each year. As reported in City Journal: “In cities and villages, from north to south and sea to sea, an ever-evolving, ever-replenishing population of thieves, extortionists, kidnappers, drug traffickers, cheats, and assassins has besieged society.”

The murder rate in Mexico is the highest ever, and the highest among all countries with at least 50 million inhabitants – except for Brazil, which is also exporting problematic people to America. You are five times more likely to be murdered in Mexico than in America. Forty thousand people are missing in Mexico. At least 130 politicians and nine journalists were killed during the last election campaign. Train robberies, house robberies, carjacking, and crimes against women are at an all-time high. 80,000 Mexicans were kidnapped in one year. Eighty percent of Mexicans feel unsafe. Only one in 6,000 crimes are ever solved.

And Now a Word from Robert Knight

As Robert Knight wrote: “The Democrats’ plan: Flood America’s southern border with millions of illegal aliens, hook them on government aid and eventually turn them into voters. Use the courts to strike down any attempts to secure the border. Have judges rule against election integrity laws like voter ID or even the commonsense question about citizenship in the 2020 national census. Once the census count is in, grant more congressional districts and federal funds to jurisdictions swelled with illegals.

“Promise free, unlimited health care for everyone, including illegal aliens. On June 27th, during the Democratic debate, all the candidates raised their hands to support this insane proposal that is sure to be heard loud and clear south of the border. This is a well-executed and mysteriously funded invasion to replace American citizens with illegal immigrants.”

In other words, illegal immigration is being used to erase the votes of American citizens. Each vote cast by an unlawful alien cancels out the ballot of an American and their voice in how our nation will be governed. The more illegal aliens that live in an area, the more seats that area gets in Congress. That is how Democrats steal political power.

A Big Beautiful Wall

Democrats say they oppose the Wall because it won't make a difference. It is, therefore, a waste of money, they claim. They lie. They know the Wall will work, which is precisely why they are against it. If it is built, and it works, they know that the average voter will say, "President Trump said it would work, and it did. He knew what he was talking about.”

If the Democrats really thought what they say they believe – that the Wall will prove to be a colossal failure and waste of money – it would have built already so they could claim, “We told you the Wall was a waste of money and we were right. President Trump was wrong.”

It should be evident to every American by now that our progressive left does not have the best interest of Americans at heart. Open borders policies undermine national security, public safety, public health, and jobs and wages for American workers.

As Michael Brown writes, "Is there anything wrong with wanting to preserve our national identity? After all, people want to come to America for a reason. If we cease to be America, there’s no reason for people to come here."

The costs of not having our southern border walled off are enormous. Illegal aliens drive up the cost to taxpayers for prisons, jails, courts, free lawyers, social services, food, housing, schools, medical care, childbirth, roads, litter cleanup, plummeting social trust, unemployment for American citizens, and lower wages for Americans. It is time: BUILD THE WALL!

John Hamilton's wife ~ I appreciate your encouraging note. It is well received. All is well with my soul.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on January 20, 2021:

John Hamilton ~ You really hurt my feelings. President Trump is the third best president America ever had, behind only George Washington and Ronald Reagan. I can see that you long to be ruled by Communist China and to see America destroyed. I find that sad. I'll pray for you. You are insane, the legal definition of which is, "Unable to tell right from wrong."

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on January 20, 2021:

PT ~ I appreciate the dialogue. I think you hit the nail on its proverbial head with this: "It comes down to "I want to be part of America, and strive to become an American" compared to today where I want to live off the American Prosperity but I don't want to really be an American."

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on January 20, 2021:

P.S. people like you are the reason this country is like it is...

And I'm glad I won't see you at Wrigley Field.

From your article

"As Michael Brown writes, "Is there anything wrong with wanting to preserve our national identity? After all, people want to come to America for a reason. If we cease to be America, there’s no reason for people to come here.""

The Wall is definitely needed to protect our national identity.

IMO, the major difference between the immigrants of the 19th and early 20th century and the immigrants of this century is why they want to be in the US.

It comes down to "I want to be part of America, and strive to become an American" compared to today where I want to live off the American Prosperity but I don't want to really be an American, I want America to be my surrogate country. And if I can vote in the US, then I can help enable that goal.

That is my opinion based on what I know and what I see this century.

As you said, there are at least 500 million people from around the world that would come to live in America, but we can't sustain that kind of change without losing America.

PT on June 01, 2020:

James, I am sure that the legalization of MJ at least at the state level had a major impact on illegal sales.

The repeal of prohibition is a good example of your legalization concept.

How would you legally sell Meth and Crack or any of the synthesized new drugs?

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 31, 2020:

PT ~ You are welcome. Thank you for reading my work and offering your response to it.

Drug trafficking is surely part of building the wall. However, if drugs were legal, as booze is, it would spell the doom of the Mexican drug cartels, and others, the end of drug smuggling across our borders and drug dealing in our cities. It would have to be regulated, as booze is; discouraged, as cigarette smoking has been, taxed as both are. The money we have spent in a futile War on Drugs has been enormous, and for what? What have we gained by it?

PT on May 30, 2020:

Do you really want crack, meth and chemically created drugs to be Legal?

As I mentioned in your Sanctuary Cities Article, Marijuana needs one law. And until they prohibit smoking, Marijuana should be given the same legal status as smoking.

The drug issue is not a deviance from the Wall issue of your article. It is one of the reasons why we need the wall imo. Just a thought.

PT on May 30, 2020:

The Wall is an important issue and thanks for writing an Article about it.

I would hope that the current intellectual commenting rather than the emotional frenzy, it would be more comfortable for people to give their opinions freely.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 30, 2020:

PT ~ Thank you for coming by to read my writings. Yes, I am well pleased to see the comments are on point for the particular subject of this article. Actually, it is that way for pretty much all my articles save one. My Global Warming article alone morphed into a free for all discussion about the topics of the day.

You ask a great question: “What ever happened to our War on Drugs?” Well, it was destined to be a losing effort, just as Prohibition was. People are going to drink and take drugs. I am in favor of total legalization. That is my little libertarian side coming out.

You are absolutely right about guns. Criminals rarely use legal guns. It is exceedingly rare for a member of the NRA to even commit one murder. Guns, on the other save, save millions of lives and mountains of property.

I appreciate your wise words of wisdom. I agree with you on virtually everything you said.

PT on May 29, 2020:

I see that your article is doing well here.

Once again nice to see that many are commenting on the topic here for the most part.

"Chad Wolf declares, “Walls work. They’re an undeniable impediment to human smugglers, drug traffickers, and other criminals who have exploited our lack of effective border infrastructure."

This is the key to why we need the wall, but the democrats keep diverting and deflection to make it about the good illegal aliens.

The good illegal aliens still need to respect our Sovereignty and now with Covid19 they need to be vetted before entry into the country.

There is a huge gang problem in the US. Some of it is from Americans but it is also exacerbated by illegals. This is where the Drug Cartels add to the gang problem. The Drugs, Illegal Contraband, Child Trafficking, Gun Running and other criminal activities are not factored into the illegal alien problem.

The gang problem is visible, the Drug Cartel business is also visible. But the left diverts by saying there is a domestic created drug supply. Having a domestic and a drug cartel source for drugs isn't a solution to the drug problem.

The gangs and the drugs are one problem. These gangs are sophisticated, technologically and politically tuned in to escape capture and even detection by the government and the police.

What we have is interleave of the drug problem with illegal entry into the country. For example, if we stop drugs and people from coming into the country each instance has a domino effect in our favor.

Gang members working for the Cartel distribute the illegal drugs and use deadly force to protect the product. There are thousands of these gangs across the country. What ever happened to our War on Drugs?

If you want to stop gun violence then why not start with the gangs and other violent users of guns. Does it make sense to try and deal with the entire population of gun owners, when only a small fraction of them use them criminally. It is like the Covid 19 or the TSA method of protecting Air Travel you are looking at the total population of people and of air travelers trying to find less then a fraction of a single percent. The resources to do that is lacking and the results not consistent with the time and effort.

When you have limited resources and funds shouldn't they be applied in the most effective manner possible?

As for the illegal aliens and their presence in gangs we also must connect them to the high 2 million plus people in prison. These prisoners include illegal aliens convicted of felonies, and they add to the overcrowding of the US prisons. The overcrowding is so bad that many courts have forced the early release of thousands of these prisoners.

The sad thing about prisons is that they don't stop criminals even in while they are incarcerated. Many of the drug criminals can and do operate their criminal enterprise from inside the prisons.

The taxpayers pay a high price to keep the prisons and jails running. And there are many prison guards making 6 figures because of overtime. There certainly is evidence that should mandate prison reform, but it doesn't happen because of politics.

My focus in this comment was illegal aliens, sanctuary cities and their reasoning which is flawed. Gangs are one example of the flawed reasoning and it encompasses both illegal aliens and people here legally. But without dealing with the common problem the left has diverted the gang issue to the good illegal aliens.

The mantra of the left that even the president of the US is not above the law is circumvented by allowing them to elevate the illegal aliens to be above law. And sanctuary cities are just one instance of that elevation.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 20, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ The notion of political correctness came into use among Communists in the 1930s as a reminder that the Party’s interest is to be treated as a reality that ranks above reality itself. Because all progressives claim to be about creating new human realities, they are perpetually at war against nature’s laws and limits. But since reality does not yield, progressives end up pretending that those new realities are real.

Hence, Progressive power is insecure as long as others are able to question the truth of what the progressives say about themselves and the world, progressive movements end up forcing people to speak and act as if these were real: as if what is correct politically were correct factually.

Progressive parties everywhere have sought to monopolize educational and cultural institutions in order to force those under their thumbs to sing their tunes or to shut up. But having brought about the opposite of the prosperity, health, wisdom, or happiness that their ideology advertised, they have been unable to force folks to ignore the gap between political correctness and reality.

All progressive movements are about gaining power for the revolutionaries and making war on those who stand in their way. Progressives have tried to eradicate religion, to make it difficult for men, women, and children to exist as families, and to demand that their subjects join them in celebrating the new order that reflects their identity. This is what explains the animus with which progressives have waged their culture wars.

Progressive regimes demand that persons who express themselves in public (even in private) affirm any and all things that pertain to the regime’s identity lest they lose access to jobs or privileges, and be exposed to the shunning or ire of regime supporters—if not treated as criminals.

Whenever the party would mount a campaign on behalf of one of its cultural-political causes, it would designate a few persons to personify the opposition, and direct all socially acceptable organs and spokespersons to unload their worst upon them. Each smiting of cultural enemies reinforced the cadre’s identity. It made them feel better about themselves, and more powerful.

But continued efforts to affirm things that they know are not true and to deny others they know to be true—to live by lies—requires breaking them, reducing them to a sense of fearful isolation, destroying their self-esteem and their capacity to trust others. George Orwell’s novel 1984 dramatized this culture war’s ends and means: nothing less than the substitution of the party’s authority for the reality conveyed by human senses and reason - holding up four fingers and demanding that Winston acknowledge seeing five.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 20, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ The Left plans to police all our activities through quangos designed to check us for political correctness. This expresses contempt for human freedom. Political correctness exhorts us to be as ‘inclusive’ as we can, to discriminate neither in thought, word or deed against ethnic, sexual, religious or behavioral minorities. And in order to be inclusive we are encouraged to denigrate what is felt to be especially ours. Academics sneer at the curriculum established by ‘Dead White European Males.’”

The idea is to condemn and repudiate Western Civilization as contemptible, oppressive, and racist. The spirit of free enquiry is now disappearing from schools and universities in the West. Books are put on or struck off the curriculum on grounds of political correctness; speech codes and counseling services police the language and conduct of both students and teachers; many courses are designed to impart ideological conformity rather than free enquiry, and students are often penalized for having drawn some heretical conclusion about the leading issues of the day. In sensitive areas, such as the study of race or sex, censorship is overtly directed not only at students but also at any teacher who comes up with the wrong conclusions.

The desire to police our habits has seen the assault on autonomous institutions, from schools to adoption agencies, from scout troops to hunts, which fail to comply with some regime of political correctness. The long-term effect of this is to absorb civil society into the state, and to subject the whole of social life to a kind of ideological vetting.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 20, 2020:

Greg Schweizer ~ I read that 600 million Third World People would move to the United States right now if they could. The Democrats want them to. That would give them political power forever. Finally, their socialist, atheist utopia could come true and they boss could everybody around 24 hours a day.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 20, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ You wrote, "I sincerely doubt that immigrants will change America from a capitalist democracy into a socialist dictatorship."

The platform of the Democrat Party is Socialism. Illegal aliens, if they could vote, will vote 90% for Democrats. Why? Well, let's see. The Republicans say you have to move here legally and if you do you have to prove you will not become a public charge (go on welfare); that you carry no disease; that you are not a criminal; and then you will have to compete with Americans on your own abilities.

Democrats say we don't care if you come legally or not, just come any way you can, criminal or no criminal, go on welfare, bring your diseases with you, we don't care; and you won't have to compete with Americans, we will give you and your children and grandchildren cradle-to-grave welfare that we will take from working Americans - and if you feel like working, we will put you in the front of every line through Affirmative Action.

Not if you weren’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, had no skills, and 5th grade education, which plan would you vote for?

Greg Schweizer from Corona, California. on May 20, 2020:

India, it's not the immigrants that are going to turn our country socialist. It's the dems that are going to make that change because they want to let all the immigrants in with open borders. Can you imagine what would have happened if Trump would have let that swarm of thousands of immigrants in that migrated from South America? Maybe not, I forget you have those blinders on with the rose colored glasses.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 20, 2020:

Greg Schweizer ~ You are right that one enormous problem is Democrats incentivizing illegal aliens to come and break into our country. Under Obama was the first time it really got horrible. He sent word to everybody in the world, "If you can sneak across our border, you can stay, with free everything, lawyers, medical care, education, translators, food, clothes, housing, communications, transportation, and often enough you can vote for Democrats to keep us in power to keep the goodies coming."

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 20, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ I appreciate you coming back by with your further comments. The thing about detaining people, including children, if they are caught sneaking across our border is that some folks believe they are held there against their will, which is not true. All they have to do is agree to go back where they came from and voila! They are free. What they are not free to do is go roam around the United States. In other words, they more or less volunteer to be held. No one will stop them if they say, “I want to go back home.”

I see many Democrats make the false argument that it is no problem if illegal aliens kill and rape Americans because “There are criminals all over the world including American criminals.” That is not the point. If in say McAllen Texas 20 people are raped and 20 murdered by other Americans and 20 are raped and 20 murdered by illegal aliens: 1) TWICE as many people have now been raped and murdered than would have been if no illegal aliens had been there where they have no business being. 2) the ones raped and murdered by illegal aliens are easily preventable by stopping them from entering our country in the first place.

You write, “You are arguing people are criminals just because they are in the country.” I am not arguing that. That is FACT. There is a law against entering our country without permission; it is a crime to break that law; those who break it are criminals. There is no argument to it.

As for “where is your proof” of identity theft:

India Jensen Kerr ~ "We in Britain are entering a dangerous social condition in which the direct expression of opinions that conflict—or merely seem to conflict—with a narrow set of orthodoxies is instantly punished by a band of self-appointed vigilantes. We are being cowed into abject conformity around a dubious set of official doctrines and told to adopt a world view that we cannot examine for fear of being publicly humiliated by the censors. This world view might lead to a new and liberated social order; or it might lead to the social and spiritual destruction of our country. How shall we know, if we are too afraid to discuss it? ~ SIR ROGER SCRUTON

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 17, 2020:

Did you read what I wrote? But honestly, I sincerely doubt that immigrants will change America from a capitalist democracy into a socialist dictatorship.

Greg Schweizer from Corona, California. on May 17, 2020:

India, have you ever thought about what would happen to this country if we let all those people in that came up from south America. This country would turn into the same thing they came from, especially if the dems have their way toward socialism. Or do those blinders stop you from seeing that too?

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 17, 2020:

Gregas, people are not coming here because of internal politics in the country and you know that. But we can just stop them at the border or send them back to their country if they come in. There is no need for separating people or putting people in cages. It sure does benefit the for profit prison companies if we do though, doesn't it? Have you ever explored why people might want to leave the countries they are leaving and come here? Have you thought about the damage we are doing to people, and especially children, who are treated the way we are treating them?

Greg Schweizer from Corona, California. on May 17, 2020:

India, the whole thing could be changed if the democrats would quit offering something they can't deliver, 'free passage into American citizenship'. Then they wouldn't migrate here in the 1000's to be stopped at the border.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 17, 2020:

T ~ I appreciate you coming back with an clarification of your point of view.

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 17, 2020:

"They are separated because of a law passed by the administration of Bill Clinton. The ‘cages’ you mention were built by Barack Hussein Obama."

And your point is? It is still evil no matter who started it and it can and must be changed. I don't care what party you are hiding behind.

"There have been 39 million cases between 2012 to 2016 wherein American citizens have had their identities stolen by illegal aliens. That alone is a crime."

Really? Where is your evidence? And how many Americans have stolen other Americans' identity?

"But you say they commit no crimes."

I did not say that, actually. There are criminals all over the world including American criminals. You are arguing people are criminals just because they are in the country. Rape and murder are crimes. But just because a person is here without paperwork does not make them a criminal by their very nature. It means to me they are desperate to make a better life for themselves and their family. How is that criminal? We all do the same. Should they stay here without going through the proper channels? I think it depends and I think people need to have compassion. Should we kick out a child who was brought here at 2 and has never known anything else? I don't think so. That child is American because he or she has been raised as an American. You also brought up the fact that babies born here should not automatically be given citizenship. Well, you are going to have to change the constitution. And that will take a lot of effort. You know that. If we change that every single one of our citizenship can actually come into question. None of our families came from here unless we are natives. So that means you could call into question anyones' citizenship. Do we want to open that Pandora's box?

"The message: Hide what you really want to do until you get the power to do what you want."

Sorry both parties do that. And that has been done since the beginning of time by people who want to maintain power.

"The explanation is political. Between 2008 and 2016, Democrats became more and more confident that the country’s growing Latino population gave the party an electoral edge. To win the presidency, Democrats convinced themselves, they didn’t need white people."

It is true that the party has changed over time. The Democratic party used be the party of white supremacy. They have changed over time with gay rights also. Biden, the democratic nominee, has waffled on abortion rights. Republicans are the same. As of now it is pretty hard to find a moderate Republican, but they used to be a major part of the party. Teddy Roosevelt was “progressive.” I know moderate Republicans who are now voting for Democrats because the Republican party has become so extreme. I sense it is a hard place for them to be in because they do not support everything in the Democratic party and they do not support the extremists who have taken over the Republican party. Things have changed over time. That is not a crime. As people get more information about a topic or as people within the party demand that the party go in a particular direction change happens. We cannot be static. That is not good for humanity as a whole no matter what party one subscribes to.

All you are proving through quoting the Atlantic and other articles is that there is debate over this topic. As there should be. It is a complicated topic.

"My problem with political correctness is that I believe in speaking the Truth. What political correctness is is a method to deny the Truth. It works two ways: It makes you censor yourself – or get censored by someone else – for speaking the Truth. And secondly, it forces people to tell lies, to say things they know are not true."

This is wrong. When I challenge someone who makes a racist or sexist joke, it may be truth that they want to be an abusive jerk but is that the kind of society we want to create? It seems to me that the anti-political correctness folks want to downplay how language creates inequalities in the society. They want to deny how language shapes the way people see each other. You can be mean all you want but is that helpful, justified, or loving? Actually, I would say Satan is in some of the hate speech people use and defend by denying the power of language. God is love. And we are all children of God. Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. That is the simplicity of Christianity. If is not love, it is not of God.

Majorities, for sure, but an exaggeration to fit your views, clearly.

No one decries ‘people forcing their ideas down my throat’ more than Leftists who do exactly that and are proud of it. No one is more bigoted than those who scream ‘Bigot’ at those with whom they disagree. No one is more racist than those who use the word ‘Racist’ constantly as an insult. No one is more judgmental than those who say “Don’t judge!” all day every day at those they are judging to be deserving of their hatred. James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 14, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ Democratic National Committee deputy chair Keith Ellison, the #2 Democrat in the country, calls for open borders. He says, “I do not believe in borders.” Period.

According to a recent Harvard poll, 32% of Democrats admit they want open borders. The rest just do not want any barrier at the border, want everyone welcomed to cross over it and to stay, provided with cradle-to-grave welfare benefits. Then why have a border at all? What is it for?

The Democrats have demonstrated that there are no means to achieve the goal of controlled immigration that they are willing to support — not border control to keep unauthorized people from barging in, and not deportation of those who manage to get past the notional borders. For a pedant, that may not qualify as “open borders,” in the sense that national frontiers would be completely unmonitored, merely jurisdictional markers showing who picks up the garbage on which side of the line.

There have been three New York Times articles in three months urging open borders. But Obama’s head of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson recently wrote a piece blasting Democrats for advocating open borders - not because he doesn’t want them or they shouldn’t want them - but because it is poison at the ballot box. The message: Hide what you really want to do until you get the power to do what you want.

Farhad Manjoo, the New York Times columnist who is urging Democrats to formally adopt an open borders policy, tried to justify his nation-changing proposals. Manjoo’s basic argument for open borders is that there will be no economic, cultural, political, or criminal problems for 330 million Americans when hundreds of millions of foreigners arrive in the United States. America is a land for immigrants, so let all immigrants into America. For Manjoo, America is a country that exists for migrants — such as himself — and is not a country for the population of 290 million U.S-born Americans and their American children.

In fact, Manjoo argues that migrants are better Americans than actual Americans.

He adds, “Economically and strategically, open borders isn’t just a good plan — it’s the only chance we’ve got. The easiest way to solve illegal immigration is to legalize all migrants.”

On this point, Manjoo is logically correct: “If you just expand the definition of legal, then they’re legal, and you have no problem” with illegal immigration, he says.

Democrats’ support for massive immigration logically leads to a policy of open borders, Manjoo says.

Another article in the Times is by open borders advocate Daniel Denvir. He writes, “Democrats should follow their voters, who increasingly want more open borders, and reframe the immigration debate by rejecting the very notion that the border needs ‘security’ and making it clear that the real problem is the denial of migrants’ rights.”

Denvir continues: “The border must be demilitarized, which would include demolishing the already-existing wall. Criminal sanctions on illegal entry and re-entry must be repealed. And citizenship for those who reside here. There is not a moral or ethical reason to justify restricting the movement of other human beings at borders. Border controls harm other people by limiting their opportunities. Democrats should argue for the morally right position: open borders.”

It is Democrats who have changed their position on this. In 2005, a left-leaning blogger wrote, “Illegal immigration wreaks havoc economically, socially, and culturally; makes a mockery of the rule of law; and is disgraceful just on basic fairness grounds alone.” In 2006, a liberal columnist wrote that “immigration reduces the wages of domestic workers who compete with immigrants” and that “the fiscal burden of low-wage immigrants is also pretty clear.” His conclusion: “We’ll need to reduce the inflow of low-skill immigrants.” That same year, a Democratic senator wrote, “When I see Mexican flags waved at proimmigration demonstrations, I sometimes feel a flush of patriotic resentment. When I’m forced to use a translator to communicate with the guy fixing my car, I feel a certain frustration.”

The blogger was Glenn Greenwald. The columnist was Paul Krugman. The senator was Barack Obama.

In 2008, the Democratic platform warned, “We cannot continue to allow people to enter the United States undetected, undocumented, and unchecked,” adding that “those who enter our country’s borders illegally, and those who employ them, disrespect the rule of the law.” By 2016, such language was gone. The party’s platform described America’s immigration system as the problem, not illegal immigration. And it focused almost entirely on the forms of immigration enforcement that Democrats opposed, which is all of them. In its immigration section, the 2008 platform referred three times to people entering the country “illegally.” The immigration section of the 2016 platform didn’t use the word illegal at all.

The explanation is political. Between 2008 and 2016, Democrats became more and more confident that the country’s growing Latino population gave the party an electoral edge. To win the presidency, Democrats convinced themselves, they didn’t need white people.

Who said this: “immigration hurts the Americans with whom immigrants compete. And since more than a quarter of America’s recent immigrants lack even a high-school diploma or its equivalent, immigration particularly hurts the least-educated native workers, the very people who are already struggling the most. America’s immigration system, in other words, pits two of the groups liberals care about most—the native-born poor and the immigrant poor—against each other.” Adolf Hitler? No. The far left wing militant radical godless communist extreme extremists at Atlantic magazine.

Who said this: “Liberals must take seriously Americans’ yearning for social cohesion. To promote both mass immigration and greater economic redistribution, they must convince more native-born white Americans that immigrants will not weaken the bonds of national identity. This means dusting off a concept many on the left currently hate: assimilation.” Also the Atlantic.

The American Sociological Review examined the factors that influence how native-born whites view immigrants. Foremost among them is an immigrant’s legal status. Not his race.

Even the far left wing militant radical godless communist extreme extremists at Politico said of the Democrat debates recently: “These candidates aren’t explicitly advocating open borders, but taken together, the policies advocated amount to almost the same thing. Now add to that the universal embrace of health care for the undocumented. As a political matter, it is an open invitation to President Donald Trump and his campaign to brand the Democrats as a party offering “free stuff” to millions of people who broke the law to get here in the first place.” Amen.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 14, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ You ask a very good question: “But can you honestly say that separating children from their parents and putting people in cages like animals is ok with you?” They are separated because of a law passed by the administration of Bill Clinton. The ‘cages’ you mention were built by Barack Hussein Obama.

You also wrote, “And the entire thing about letting criminals in is fear based and some of it is very racist.” There have been 39 million cases between 2012 to 2016 wherein American citizens have had their identities stolen by illegal aliens. That alone is a crime.

The type of person who goes through the process to legally immigrate in the United States appears to be very law-abiding versus even the U.S.-born population. The reverse is true for undocumented immigrants — they are committing crimes, and more serious crimes.

In the last two years, ICE officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with criminal records, including those charged or convicted of approximately 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 murders.

The U.S. Sentencing Commission reports that the illegal alien population in the United States accounts for a shocking percentage of criminal activity committed in the country. Twenty-two percent of murders; 18 percent of fraud convictions; 33 percent of money laundering convictions; 29 percent of drug trafficking convictions and an astounding 72 percent of convictions for drug possession are illegal aliens, according to federal crime statistics. What a reduction in crime it would be if we blocked these people from entering our country in the first place!

New York City alone Freed 7.5K Criminal Illegal Aliens into U.S. in 2019, Including Convicted Murderers and Rapists. In all of those cases, ICE agents asked that these criminal illegal aliens be turned over to them for arrest and deportation. Due to the city's sanctuary policy, though, all were released.

Altogether, these more than 7,500 criminal illegal aliens released back into New York communities had a total of 17,873 criminal convictions and 6,500 criminal charges against them. This includes criminal illegal aliens who have been convicted or charged with:

• 200 homicides

• More than 1,000 sexual offenses

• More than 500 robberies

• More than 3,500 assaults

• More than 1,500 DUIs

More than 1,000 weapons violations. But you say they commit no crimes.

Over 90% of the illegal aliens arrested in 2019 had either previous criminal convictions or pending charges, including 56,000 assaults and thousands of sex crimes, robberies, homicides and kidnappings. The average was four charges per alien. Democrats shield them from deportation. Democrats insist on putting the well-being of these criminal aliens before the safety of American citizens.

The truth is that Democrat sanctuary cities let those with criminal arrests for sexually assaulting a minor, kidnapping, human trafficking, child pornography, or even murder be provided protection from removal. They do not belong in our country in the first place. That being the point.

Crimes by illegal immigrants widespread across US. In 2018, the number of Mexican illegal aliens arrested for federal crimes exceeded the number of American citizens who were arrested for federal crimes by about 8,000 arrests. For example, more than 78,000 federal arrests of Mexicans were made last year. Compare that to the roughly 70,500 federal arrests made of American citizens the same year. Over 20 years, the number of federal arrests made of Mexican nationals in the U.S. has soared by 175 percent. The number of federal arrests of non-U.S. citizens is nearly double the arrests of Americans. Arrests of noncitizens by the U.S. government more than tripled over the past decade and now account for 64 percent of all federal arrests, the Justice Department said Thursday. 94 percent of confirmed foreign-born inmates in federal incarceration were in the country illegally.

Over 10,000 Illegals In U.S. From Terror-Sponsoring States. We aren’t sure who they are where they are. Over 50,000 illegal aliens from terror-prone countries remain despite final deportation orders" which noted that an additional 60,000 such aliens are currently appealing their cases.

The crime rate among illegal immigrants in Arizona is twice that of other residents.

The report, from the Crime Prevention Research Center, found that illegal immigrants between 15 and 35 are less than 3 percent of the state’s population, but nearly 8 percent of its prison population. And the crimes they were convicted of were, on the whole, more serious.

Among nearly 4,000 first- and second-degree murder convictions, undocumented immigrants accounted for nearly 13 percent — significantly higher than their percentage of the population. Legal immigrants, by contrast, were less than 1 percent of convicts. Native-born made up the rest.

Undocumented immigrants also accounted for five times the rate of convictions for money laundering and kidnapping, and were three times more likely to be convicted of drive-by shootings.

“Dreamers” had crime rates 250 percent higher than their share of the population would have predicted. They’re more likely to be convicted of sexual assault, robbery, and driving under the influence. They’re more than twice as likely to be convicted of murder.

Tens of thousands of crimes have been committed in this country that would never have happened if our immigration laws were enforced and respected like they ought to be.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 14, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ Thank you for coming back with your further comments. If a news outlet blatantly lies about President Trump, as many do every single damned day, he is right to say they are broadcasting ‘fake news.’ You say that is what ‘dangerous dictators’ do? Hogwash. Dangerous dictators close down the press and sent them to the firing squad – not merely criticize them. Are you saying the press is above criticism? Has President Trump stopped them from saying whatever hateful thing they want to say?

For you to say “People who are here illegally do not have access to federal and state welfare programs” is flat out wrong. It is insanely wrong. You speak falsely when you say, “ government programs are not available to people who are not legal immigrants.” Illegal Aliens are supposed to be barred from welfare benefits by law. But Obama instructed his administration to ignore those laws. Today, illegal aliens are twice as likely to receive welfare as American citizens. 63% of illegal aliens in America receive welfare right now.

Los Angeles County alone paid $1.3 billion in welfare money during 2015 and 2016 to illegal aliens. That number amounts to one-quarter of the total spent on the county’s entire needy population.

In my state, Illinois, Illegal Aliens Cost taxpayers $3.85 Billion A Year worth of welfare benefits—with the State On Verge Of Bankruptcy. Illegal Aliens Costs Illinois Nearly 10% of total Projected Spending. Billions of dollars’ worth of government services that are meant for citizens are going towards illegal aliens. This reduces the quality of Illinois’ healthcare, education, and administrative services. Educating illegal aliens and their children is the single greatest expense. Public schooling is expensive. Illegal aliens also absorb considerable healthcare costs. Other major costs include increased policing and incarceration, and various administrative costs. 1 in 10 k-12 students in Illinois are there because of illegal immigration.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson faced harsh criticism from Democrats recently because he proposed to strip public housing assistance for illegal aliens. Well, according to you, they don’t get any. So why would Democrats have a fit about it if it wasn’t happening? There are 32,000 illegal alien families living in free housing. Carson was going to evict them because there are American families on waiting lists for that housing, for whom it was built in the first place.

You say, “right now there are a goodly number of people who do not even want Americans to have access to healthcare. “ Like who? WHO doesn’t want people to have access to healthcare? Show me who said that.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 14, 2020:

Howard Schneider ~ Yes, there have been quite a few comments made. You are right that every group has brought some of its culture to America, the Italians, Germans, Irish, etc. However, up until the Long March of the Cultural Marxists – whose aim, lest we forget, is to topple Western Civilization, meaning America first and foremost – all Americans pretty much looked up to and honored Christianity, the Crusaders, Columbus, the Founding Fathers, and so forth. Part of the work of cultural Marxists is to make all the old heroes into villains. To Balkanize the culture. To denigrate our heritage in order that America would appear not worth defending to newer generations, in particular to massive numbers of migrants who do not share the American worldview at all, certainly not our heritage.

You write, “Christianity is the most prominent religion in the U.S. but far from the only one.” 99% of all Americans were Christians at our founding and over 90% as late as the 1950s. America is part of Western Civilization, which is founded upon Christianity, having been known for 1,000 years as Christendom. To destroy that religion that has unified our civilization is to remove the very foundation of our nation. However, that is precisely the mission of the Left, and has been since its birth in the French Revolution.

You write, “Your belief that globalism aims to eliminate national borders is your own delusion.” You think is just means trade. Nonsense. There has been global trade for a long time. I have a handy thing known as a dictionary. GLOBALISM: “1) the attitude or policy of placing the interests of the entire world above those of individual nations. [the elimination of borders being the ultimate goal]. 2) a political principle which transcends Nationalism. INTERNATIONALISM.

Globalism originated in the idea that if there were no countries there would be no divisions among people and no wars. As John Lennon said, “Imagine no countries.” What do you think he was talking about? Building a cell phone factory in China? He meant that if you look at the planet from outer space there are no political lines and so there shouldn't be any in the future.

Globalism came mostly from Socialists/Communists. They wanted Global Government. That is why they called their meetings the INTERNATIONALE. It is about being a Citizen of the World, not of a given country (seen as disappearing as did clans and tribes). It is the drive behind the UN, WTO, WHO, World Bank, et al. WORLDWIDE institutions and governance. It is not delusion, my friend.

To be more precise, I am speaking of WORLD GOVERNMENT, defined as “a common political authority for all of humanity, giving way to a global government and a single state or polity with jurisdiction over the entire world.” If it is my personal delusion why does it have an entry in my encyclopedia as a real thing?

You speak falsely when you say, “Walls were very effective in the world's past history when defense methods were crude and most of the world was barbaric.” That only reveals one thing about you: YOU DID NOT READ MY ARTICLE. There has been more wall building around the whole world in the last ten years than ever before in world history. The wheel is ancient but we still use those.

Yes, President Reagan is one of my heroes, and he did say, “Tear down this wall” But you misunderstand what he meant, which only shows: YOU DID NOT READ MY ARTICLE. He meant, “SET THESE PEOPLE FREE FROM THE SLAVERY OF SOCIALISM.” He did not mean, “Allow a billion people to pour across our border to live in the United States.”

The Berlin Wall WAS BUILT TO KEEP PEOPLE IN. IN. IN. Don’t you get it? Our Wall is to KEEP PEOPLE OUT. OUT. OUT. It is the OPPOSITE thing, not the same thing.

The Democrats do disdain the law with their sanctuary cities. People in the country illegally should be removed. That is the law. Democrats say we will stop them from removing you no matter what the law says.

You are dead wrong that Wall “is a hateful symbol.” So says Communist propaganda. You are gullible. 65 nations are building walls. Are they all hateful or just ours? Just a painted line would be fine for a border if people would honor it. THEY DON’T. They dishonor America and Americans by essentially saying, “Your border don’t mean s**t to me pal.” And the Democrats egg them on, “Come on across. We’ll protect you from deportation and give you cradle-to-grave welfare. Just remember to vote for us.”

Keeping Mexicans in Mexico is not ‘racism.’ You are just parroting Marxist propaganda again. First of all, Mexican is not a race.

Everything you say shows that you are for illegal immigration. You claim that to have any immigration law is to ‘hate’ and ‘demonize’ and ‘racist.’ I call horseshite. I am for legal immigration and against illegal immigration and I don’t give a damn what color they are on both counts. That is a straw man argument meant to demonize anyone who isn’t for open borders.

By extension, your ideas on all this means you are for open borders. After all, WHO could be denied entry into and citizenship of the United States in your mind? WHO can be denied without hating them, demonizing them, and being racist towards them in your mind? WHO? We must let them all in. In which case, why have a border at all?

You claim you are not for open borders but you claim to deny anyone entry is racist, hateful and demonizing – which you are obviously not wanting to be. That means you are simply lying about what you really think, which is: THERE SHOULD BE NO BARRIERS TO THE FREE MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE AROUND THE PLANET AND THE WEST SHOULD PROVIDE FOR ALL OF THEM. That is what you believe but you just won’t say it. George Soros will. Have some balls and admit it.

Hitler was a Socialist like you. In fact, his platform nearly matches that of yours. Talk about psychological projection! The Nazis were the most educated, scientifically advanced people on Earth, just as the Democrats claim they are. Both favor socialism, especially socialized medical care; are Anti-Christian, took prayer and the Bible out of schools, renamed Christmas and Easter; favored raising children in daycare; built huge bureaucracies to command every nook and cranny of everyday life; spent money like crazy people; banned guns; instituted Political Correctness; promoted a rise in perversion, immorality, and crime; and remade schools into indoctrination centers. You remind me a lot of Adolf.

But President Trump is the opposite of a Fascist like you. He and I are for FREEDOM. We do not want your Totalitarianism.

Not gonna lie, being the vulgar degenerate that everyone knows me to be, I'd love to have dinner with AOC. I mean, she couldn't debate her way out of a wet paper bag, but I bet she is a wildcard in the bedroom.

The Logician from then to now on on May 14, 2020:

Nice try Joc but if you think appointment of her by the present presidential candidate (Bidenility) along with flip flop Kerry, a former presidential candidate for your favorite party, doesn’t indicate she is a leader in the party you have proven (Once again) you are incapable of acknowledging the obvious, irrefutable truth.

Really, if the Democrats have chosen Bidenility to be their president why would you think AOC is any less their choice for leadership? Your favorite party is run by nut cases, and you just don’t want to admit it.

JOC from Syracuse, NY on May 14, 2020:

A representative in her first term in Congress is a leader of the party? She gets a lot of air time because she is a vocal young, attractive minority - doesn't make her a leader. Just means she gets a lot of attention, especially from the right.

The Logician from then to now on on May 14, 2020:

James, how can you deal with TDSyndromocrats like Joc when all the do is make false claims and lie about everything you say.

Like this from Joc

“Quoting people like AOC, and saying she is a leader within our party, to apply that to the majority of the party is dishonest, at best.”

Really? Then explain this! I guess Biden and Kerry aren’t leaders in your party either and while we’re at it I guess your reasoning means the majority of Democrats aren’t interested in climate change either?

There is no use in debating someone like Joc, they are incapable of acknowledging the truth.

He does this everywhere he shows up, it’s like wack a mole if you try to set him straight, not worth the time.

Of course, you know what comes next - shoot the messenger, be it you or I or any purveyors of the facts that put his opinions to shame.

Good thing the federal government requires it, because America favors inclusion and diversity. Now all we need to do is stop weaponizing the cultures of others.

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 13, 2020:

I'm sorry I triggered you. I kind of regret that I did not learn a second language from a young age actually. But no one thought of it when I was little. Now they are finding how good a second language is for brain development. My son has been in Spanish immersion education programs since he was 5 months old.

Kyler J Falk from California on May 13, 2020:

I was forced to do it in order to even be considered for a four-year college under my English major. I resent it because I only ever had use for one language besides English, and despite half of my family being immigrants from either Italy or Mexico I have no need for Spanish, nor Italian. Equally, I resent learning foreign languages as being compulsory in a country where the majority speaks English.

My culture is based in English, my skin is white, my gender is male, and where I dissociate from the democratic party (the radical, and most vocal who get the most attention) are on these topics that regularly want my culture infringed upon for the cultures of others. My culture is regularly weaponized; whether it be Mexican, Italian, or my German roots, and people are all too keen to try to tell others what it is they should be doing with culture.

I suppose, I resent foreign languages because I don't place expectations on people to come to my country and learn my language. Yet my own countrymen would seek to make other cultures compulsory as they spit on me for celebrating my own.

A complex topic, too emotionally charged for me to take any serious part, but I suppose it feels good to let out some of my angst.

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 13, 2020:

I know in high school there was a two year language requirement but honestly high school is too late to start learning a language. Languages need to be started a lot earlier. And for my bachelor's degree there was a choice between a bachelor of arts where a person takes 2 years of one language or a bachelor of science which required some type of science requirement. But, of course, anything after high school is a choice.

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 13, 2020:

I don't feel angry, Kyler. I am disagreeing with some of the points James is making. I wonder if you would feel differently about languages if there were more people speaking a different language along with English? Why do you resent it? I know that was not part of this article. But there is this argument when people talk about immigrants that "everyone should speak English." I have always found that argument really unfair and sad. You were forced to take 3 different languages to get an bachelor's degree in English?

Kyler J Falk from California on May 13, 2020:

As someone who was forced to take three different languages in order to obtain an English degree, and before that forced to take two years of a foreign language to graduate high school, I'd say America is doing just fine promoting inclusion and diversity. Your anger towards this article and discussion is causing you to present things unfairly, not to say most of what is being said here isn't being presented unfairly, I just hate foreign languages and still resent being forced to learn them for my pursuance of English fluency.

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 13, 2020:

James - Using language in terms of criminality is new, James. I do not remember such an insistence on using that language until a few years ago. Alien may be a legal term but everyday people do not talk in terms of legalize as a general rule. I find it ironic that some conservatives complain about "political correctness", which is just really some people pointing out the problem with language, while they are using language to create a particular world. Language is important and the people complaining about political corectness know it. But are most democrats sitting around talking about language and its importance? Or most Republicans for that matter? No. Moderate democrats and Republicans in middle America are not talking about that. They are far more concerned about how they are going to pay their bills, take care of their kids, or health concerns. Some conservatives, like you appear to be, are taking issue with activists in the Democratic party. And they have a voice but it is not the entire voice. Right now there seems to be a split in the party between moderates and liberal democrats. Moderates support Biden, Buttigieg, and Klobuchar, while more liberal democrats support Bernie, Warren, and AOC. There are also more moderate Republicans but they do not seem to be as loud right now. I realize that every country has immigration laws. Personally, I am fine with immigration laws and I am a Democrat. I am not ok with throwing babies in cages and taking them away from their parents, blanketing immigrants as rapists, criminals, and murderers, and disrespecting other cultures. Personally, I think it is great to learn different languages and I think it should be a requirement. Every other country in the world learns at least one other language or more. We are the only country who insists on ignorance and that is very sad.

JOC from Syracuse, NY on May 13, 2020:

James - The statement posed to the Democratic Nominees was 'Raise your hand if your government plan would provide coverage to undocumented immigrants.' What was silly is that from that, you incorrectly made an assumption that it is free healthcare. If undocumented immigrants were to pay taxes, then under some of those plans, it is not free as you claim. Even your figure of 20 million is a gross exaggeration.

When you just say Democrats, you are making a statement that you believe all of them to believe such things. Now if you actually took some time to determine which percentage of the party believes the claims you make, like I did with the 44 of 233, then your statements would be more believable. Quoting people like AOC, and saying she is a leader within our party, to apply that to the majority of the party is dishonest, at best. You see her as a leader because your media has a giant hardon for her because she is a young, attractive, minority woman with fringe views.

Your naivete again shows through with that outlandish claim that 99% of Democrats believe the things you find abhorent. That allowing a woman to have a choice with what is done with her body or that having a government recognize same sex marriage (not the church, the government) are universal among the party. Majorities, for sure, but an exaggeration to fit your views, clearly. Something you do consistently to slander those you do not agree with, and something that undermines an otherwise well written article.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 13, 2020:

India Jensen Kerr ~ Thank you for coming back by with your additional comments. You ask a very good question: “When did this rhetoric about the criminality of being an immigrant become a thing?” Well, never that I have heard about. An immigrant is a person who has applied, while in their own country, to move into your country. They file paperwork, a background check is done on them, and they wait a few years while their application is processed. That is what an immigrant is. There is nothing criminal about it. It is perfectly legal.

Now an illegal alien is a criminal, a criminal defined as ‘a person who has committed a crime.’ Under federal law, any non-U.S. citizen is an alien. Aliens who have entered the United States without permission, or who have violated the terms of their admission, are identified under the law as illegal aliens. That is a fact, not an issue for debate.

The term “alien” means any person not a citizen or national of the United States.

—United States Code, Title 8, §1101(a)(3)

An illegal alien…is any alien (1) whose most recent entry into the United States was without inspection, or (2) whose most recent admission to the United States was as a nonimmigrant and—(A) whose period of authorized stay as a nonimmigrant expired, or (B) whose unlawful status was known to the Government, before the date of the commission of the crime for which the alien is convicted.

—United States Code, Title 8, §1365(b)

It is also a fact that, according to U.S. law, it is a crime to enter the United States without permission. The first offense is a misdemeanor, the second, a felony.

An illegal alien is a term codified in U.S. Law - 8 U.S. Code § 1325.Improper entry by alien: Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact.

The Democrats with their political correctness language police, DoubleSpeak and ThoughtCrimes, have made it seem like their s something wrong with the term ‘illegal alien’ when it is in fact the legal term for such people – not ‘immigrants’ not ‘undocumented.’

Those who object to the use of the term “illegal alien” appear to believe that if they can convince the American public that illegal immigration is not really illegal, then amnesty no longer is amnesty, and enforcing immigration law is unnecessary.

By the way, this is not unusual among countries. Mexico deports more illegal aliens than America does. It is a FELONY to sneak into Mexico first offense. Mexico only accepts immigrants who have the "necessary funds for their sustenance" while denying entry to those who would "upset the equilibrium of the national demographics.” There is no green card, no food stamps, or pathway to Mexican citizenship. Needless to say there are no sanctuary cities in Mexico. There are no visa overstays or foreigners working illegally in Mexico. If you are deported and they catch you trying to come back—ten years in prison. If you overstay your VISA or violate its terms—six years in prison.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 13, 2020:

JOC ~ You can claim that I am “actively making it out that all [Democrats] believe the same thing” but it is a false claim. Anybody with half a brain knows that ALL DEMOCRATS – sixty million people perhaps – (or ALL Republicans or ALL of anybody) do not ALL think the same way on every issue. That should not have to be pointed out except to a moron. Well, except perhaps the killing of babies, the glorification of perversion, and the mockery of Holy Matrimony. On those three things, maybe up to 99% Democrats do all believe the same thing.

There is nothing about my worldview that resembles the KKK, which was the paramilitary arm of the Democrat Party. Republicans, white and black, were the targets of their terrorism, much like they are the targets of violence from Antifa today. Antifa is the successor organization to the KKK, blackshirts and brownshirts.

You think I made it up that Democrats constantly claim that anybody against illegal immigration or mass immigration from the Third World is motivated by racism? Democrat politicians, celebrities, journalists, and academics make that claim all day every day. I see it on social media every day. Several of your ilk have said it right in this thread. “It’s racism” has become the main weapon of the Left – along with “hate” - because its arguments are weak and make no sense.

This statement of yours is downright silly: “They did not say that illegal immigrants should be given free healthcare. They all agreed that everyone in our country should have access to healthcare.” Well gee golly gosh . . . there are 20 million or so illegal aliens IN our country. ALL Democrat candidates for President said that those 20 million people should receive free health care. That’s what I said. That was the question to which they ALL raised their hands.

You are right that “only 44 house democrats - of 233” signed their names to the New Way Forward - so far. They include the chief spokesperson of your party: AOC. I did not say the bill had passed or had majority support yet. Just the fact that it was signed by 44 members of the United States Congress ought to be a warning to my fellow countrymen. These people have been elected to very high public office. This is what they believe.

And you are way off base to claim the positions of the Democrat Party “fuel my anger.” Not one word of my article was spoken in anger. That is in your imagination. As far as conspiracies go, surely you know that a fair share of the Left does want mass migration of Third World People’s into America and Europe, as Tony Blair’s adviser said, “To rub the right’s nose in diversity.” Many of the Left want the Earth ruled by a Global Government, not by sovereign nations, including George Soros. It may be a conspiracy to rule the World but it is not a secret. They make no secret about it.

I am glad that you do not agree with your party' position on illegal aliens, which is that they should be welcomed here with open arms, none should be deported, they should be shielded in sanctuary cities, and given free health care, education, housing, food, clothes, and whatever else they might want.

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 12, 2020:

Greg Schweizer from Corona, California. on May 12, 2020:

India, obviously you are wearing some very large blinders.

India Jensen Kerr from United States on May 12, 2020:

You are spreading misinformation. You are simplifying a very complex issue. I looked for the article, James, both by the quote and the title. I can't find it. Can you provide it? It sounds like satire actually. There is a part of the NYT that is satire based. And to say that the NYT is the "chief voice" of the "Democrat" (not sure why using English improperly is a good thing) is just not true. And the Washington Post which in the past has been known as being a more conservative newspaper is now being lambasted by Trump as "fake news." This is very dangerous talk, really. It is the talk of dictators. But that is a different issue. People who are here illegally do not have access to federal and state welfare programs. It's a fear tactic. There are community programs who will still help people who are here illegally - homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters and the like. But gonvernment programs are not available to people who are not legal immigrants. And right now there are a goodly number of people who do not even want Americans to have access to healthcare. We need to figure that out first. Then we can decide if we want people to be refused medical care because they are not legal residents. And the entire thing about letting criminals in is fear based and some of it is very racist. Unless you are native, our relatives probably were not the cream of the crop as far as people coming into the country. My family has been here for a while but I think that they were probably poor and trying to have a better life for themselves and their children. Where does the vitriol come from at this time for immigrants? I suppose that vitriol has been there at various times in history for different reasons. Perhaps it is because of the huge gap between the rich and the poor at this time in our history. But can you honestly say that separating children from their parents and putting people in cages like animals is ok with you? A three year old is not a criminal and they are expected to go before a judge by themselves? I'm a Christian and a lot of conservatives are. Pence is. How can someone like Pence be okay with that just because people do not have the proper paperwork? You can disagree with AOC, that's fine. There are lot of different voices in the Democratic party, she is not the only one. And she is not the most quoted one. I am not sure where you are getting that.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 12, 2020:

Maven101 ~ Thank you for reading my work. I appreciate your kind compliments on it. I am glad to see that we are in agreeance. I totally agree with your comments that “We are a nation of laws, and to appease or ignore a significant portion of those laws leads to anarchy and chaos.”

And you put this perfectly: “building a southern border wall and having sufficient personnel to patrol it, is a necessary means to ensure immigration law is being enforced and the folks standing in line for legal status as a citizen of the US comes first.”

Bravo! Well done my friend.

James A Watkins (author) from Chicago on May 12, 2020:

CHRIS57 ~ You are most welcome. Thank you for coming back by with further insights. Among illegal aliens, there is an epidemic of identity theft, forged government documents, and fake social security numbers. Forgers make fake documents by the millions for illegal aliens to use.

The anchor baby thing is the 14th Amendment, which was passed in 1868 to make the children of slaves automatic citizens if they were born here. The Left has successfully used it with false claim that those men in 1868 also meant the babies of anyone who sneaks across the Rio Grande in the middle of the night. That needs to be fixed. America is almost the only country on Earth with such a thing.

It would be great to change the laws but the fact is Democrats have no intention of following the law. That is what Sanctua
