As NYC Sanders forces and those joining them from around the country protested in front of the courthouse, a judge who ruled against a lawsuit's request to allow independent voters to vote, also ruled that all other points in the lawsuit may move forward. This means that the vast number of provisional ballots, also called affidavit ballots, cast by Democratic primary voters in the NY primary may be counted after all.
Bernie Sanders' campaign on Tuesday called reports of voting irregularities in New York state "a disgrace" as local officials rushed to condemn the city Board of Elections for stripping more than 125,000 Democratic voters from the rolls.
Brooklyn, New York, Bernie Sanders’ hometown, was reportedly the most badly affected area for hopeful voters. Just before polls closed at 9 p.m., the polling site coordinator of Brooklyn Borough Hall estimated that about one-tenth of all voters who showed up to vote there had been removed by the Board and were unable to vote using a standard ballot. According to the New York Times election results, among standard votes that were counted after the primary, 174,236 votes had been cast for Clinton and 116,327 votes were cast for Bernie Sanders in Brooklyn. From the Clinton after-election party at The Sheraton, Ed Schultz of RT reported, “The results tonight don’t really matter.” Schultz thinks that the provisional ballots and pending audit could even affect Clinton’s Big Apple win.
Sanders' loss in his hometown of Brooklyn to Clinton was trumpeted in the media as a sign of Clinton's strength in NY.
Sanders supporters from around the country are encouraged to travel to NYC to support the protesters, who may possibly begin an Occupy Wall Street style encampment near the court to support the lawsuit 24/7. The NYC Comptroller, Scott Stringer, a Clinton superdelegate, has independently recognized the magnitude of possible voter disenfranchisement in the NY primary and has announced his own audit, saying in a press release:
“There is nothing more sacred in our nation than the right to vote, yet election after election, reports come in of people who were inexplicably purged from the polls, told to vote at the wrong location or unable to get in to their polling site,” Comptroller Stringer said. “The people of New York City have lost confidence that the Board of Elections..."
Springer estimates that "more than 125,000 voters in Brooklyn were removed from voter rolls." Brooklyn is but one of five boroughs in NY making the magnitude of the disenfranchisement possibly in the many hundreds of thousands. 1.7 million voters officially turned out in the NY Democratic primary.
Sanders supporters are also encouraged to contact the Sanders campaign to ask it to announce a position of support for the provisional ballots to be counted.
UPDATE APRIL 23, 2016
So far one city Board of Elections official has been suspended without pay.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said:
if any New Yorker was illegally prevented from voting, I will do everything in my power to make their vote count...
“The next president of the United States could very easily be decided tonight and yet the incompetence of the Board of Elections puts a cloud over these results.”

I'm an old white guy who supports Bernie Sanders. My computer skills are somewhat limited. I want a computer savvy registered independent (unaffiliated) voter to set up a website on behalf of independent voters to register they will vote for Bernie in the general election. My hope is that enough independents will register so that every time someone counts super delegates for Hillary there will be hundreds of verifiable independents for Bernie for each super delegate for Hillary. We'll be able to say and prove that Bernie has a thousand or more independent voters for each of Hillary's super delegates!
Lora on April 23, 2016:
Yeah but you know there were a lot of people who were just turned away and told they couldn't vote at all or people that went to vote and polls were closed so even if they take provisional ballets it's still not accurate!

I love Bernie! Thank you Bernie and your Lawyers for stepping up to the plate for the people's right to vote, and "US", the US people and our rights! We know that you are the one that we need to head this country for all of the right reasons! This is just one more example! Getting corruption out of the American people's way! Thank you Senator Sanders!

What no one is talking about and i am afraid it might make me seem like a crazy conspiracy theorist - But anyway - All the major news orgs even MSNBC were saying based on the exit polls the race was way too close to call - a sharp turn from Arizona where they called the race after 1% of vote had been counted- So why if it seemed too close to call did it end up being a 16 % point win for Clinton?

I too have a feeling Bernie will be the nominee. Hillary doesn't seem to care that some people didn't get to vote. I would not like a tainted viv=ctory like this. I don't think Bernie would either.
Katie on April 22, 2016:
There should be no question about whether or not to count them. Every single vote should be counted, period, end of story #nomaybeaboutit

I trust Bernie's legal team and Election Justice USA, who filed the lawsuit in NY. I think my job, our jobs, for Bernie, is organizing forums perhaps with very smart pro-Bernie lawyers or activists who KNOW his plan, his programs, how he pays for this monumental transformation, and all the corruption HRC and Clinton Foundation have been involved in for decades. The details matter and most of us, me included, need more information to help understand as well as convey why electing Bernie Sanders is IMMINENT for SO many reasons.
Empires have always risen, been constructed on flawed ideologies, gotten out of control, and from inside, fallen upon the sword the system itself manufactured.
The book, The World Peace Diet, by Will Tuttle, examines the phenomenon of violence in human society from it's first genesis, a history worth examining and least considered.
If we are to continue and thrive as a species, our environment is the only key to survival and today, it is under attack because humans have learned to adopt a posture and place as KING, Lord, Master over nature, doing to her and all other species as we will. Please read the book in the link and consider the real threat to our planet, raising 65 billion so called farmed animals for products derived from incalculable suffering and violence to helpless beings in a system that now values our labor as it values the very lives of sentient animals forced to live and die in HELL... PEACE TO ALL BEINGS!

The Hillary democrats ignore so much that they remain ignorant of disenfranchisement because it never hurts Clinton and they don't care about democracy or the country. Then they holler Trump! Trump, we have to stop Trump! But it's Hillarious Clinton that must stop benefitting from these shenanigans. How stupid do they expect the rest of us to be? This will not stand or America will fall.

Everybody in the media or at least about almost everybody thinks Hillary is going to get away with what the email breach. Everybody keeps laughing at me when I am saying this. This lady is not going to be the nominee for the Democratic Party come July and she is not going to be President. She is going to be in a jail cell somewhere charged with Espionage. I made a huge prediction about the outcome of the F.B.I investigation and I am sticking with it. She is going to be indicted probably in the next month or so when this investigation concludes and her and Bill will probably both be convicted or at least she will although he might be charged as an accessory depending on what emails he saw that went through that server. She committed multiple violations of gross negligence misconduct by using a private server to send classified top secret information through an unsecure network that let third party hackers and terrorists see our national security secrets during her tenure as the Highest ranking diplomat in the free world. Everybody keeps dismissing this F.B.I investigation that is going on as if it not a big deal. They already have the goods on her and Bill. And Comey and Lynch are going to indict and convict her. The Romanian hacked who was extradited was for a reason. The Feds are going to use his testimony and evidence against her in this investigation that has been going on for the last year. She is toast. I don't care weather she might have won New York or not. Bernie Sanders will end up being the nominee or him and Joe Biden will be on the same ticket representing the Democratic Party at the convention in July. It won't be Hillary. Trust me. The two most corrupt grifters in the History or American politics are about to take a little detour on the road to Oz. Hillary is on her to be indicted. If you people don't believe me and think my prediction about all of this is crazy look up a great writer named Ronald Kessler online. He predicts the same thing. Once she gets indicted her days as a politician and as a canidiate for President are over as well as her husband. Anyway. Bernie Sanders will then most likely become the nominee when that happens. Hillary is not going to get away with this with all the damage she has committed to America. She is toast. It may happen as soon as the end of may but it will before the convention in July just in the nick of time and Sanders will most likely get the nomination from the redistributing of all the delegates from Hillary to him. I am sticking with my prediction. Bernie Sanders will be the next President of the United States when everything clears. Hillary will be somewhere else and it ain't going to the Whitehouse.

Stringer, as Comptroller, has absolutely no authority to conduct an audit. Plus, he's a pledged delegate to Hillary, so no conflict there. The AG needs to call in an independent entity to conduct the audit and to give real results, not convenient ones.
