Background

The American presidential election is a four-year affair. It's a pretty short period if you consider that recorded history is almost 2000 years old and even the American state has been in existence for 244 years. After President Roosevelt won four times on the trot Congress has limited the term of a president to 2. Before you can close and open your eyes a presidential election comes up. This November there will be another election and the two main contenders are Joe Biden and Donald Trump. The American constitution does not limit multiple contenders but historically only one of the two parties the Democrats and the Republicans can hope to win the election. .For close to 200 years this was a good recipe for stability but the scenario has changed and now it does appear that the American people have literally no choice to elect anyone but one these two contenders. It's my personal opinion that the American people deserve a better choice because an enemy country has fanned a virus in America killing more than 150,000 people and there is a tremendous amount of racial strife. So many riots and killings. Added to this is the rule of the gun and I think America is the only country in the world where tens of people are shot dead for nothing by gun-toting individuals.

The American age of dominance commenced just after the first world war when America emerged not only as a great power but also one that other nations looked up to for leadership and guidance. The only threat to American domination during this period came from the Soviet Union. The superiority of the American system carried the day and the Soviet state collapsed like a house of cards.

At the turn of the 21st century, the first fissures in American domination began to emerge. This is the view of many knowledgeable persons who feel it's partly due to the American indulgence with China. Not with a little help from America the Dragon has emerged from an agrarian society with low GDP to the number two nation in the world with the largest army. American presidents were never alive to the danger of China and kept on beating the bogey of Russia. China would never have reached its present economic and military power if the Americans had not poured billions of dollars of investment into that country.

China has proved to be an ungrateful country but then the Americans forgot that the Chinese civilization is close to 3000 years old compared to the Americans state which came into existence just about 250 years back. The Chinese bided their time with their ancient wisdom and formulated a plan to puncture the American hegemony over the world. They have gone into battle in the most devious manner with the result that both the contenders for the post of the top American opposition are in some way beholden to China. Donald Trump's daughter has been given a number of patents for her products by the Chinese and she has earned millions. Biden also has a close association with China which is well known.

Add to this the fracturing of American society between the blacks and the whites resulting in widespread rioting. One can well argue that the bulk of the American people do not believe in racial theories but then we must remember that the bulk never exerts and it is only the fringe that carries the day. The Nazi party in Germany never had massive support among the German people and in the 1933 election they were only the biggest party and never had a majority but yet they dominated Germany. Thus the minority is aggressive and calls the shots and this is the problem in America.

Biden vs Trump

As things stand the choice before the American people is only between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Both these men are well into the winter of their lives and as age grows on a man so does his infirmities. Joe Biden is close to 80 and Donald Trump is nearing 75. Though age per se Is by itself not relevant it has to be accepted that a younger man can always be more decisive than a man who is nearing the winter of his age. For the last 60 years of the end of World War II, it did not matter who was the President of the United States because America had no real challenger and their economy was so strong and not dependent on anybody else.

History is never static but it is dynamic and the dynamics of the situation in the present time show that America needs a man who can be decisive and lead the American nation forward to sustain and foster the power of the free and democratic world. There are not many people in even in America who feel that both these contenders will be in a position to take decisive steps in this matter.

Previous American presidents mollycoddled China to such an extent that now it has become almost like a Frankenstein. The Americans helped China in any number of ways. They allowed China a free run in Tibet and the South China Sea. They allowed China to go nuclear as an antidote to Russia, They poured in billions of dollars of investment and technology into China in the hope that America would itself have a lot of money and China would be beholden to them. This was a naive policy and doomed to failure. Whatever has been done is done but now America needs a president who can take stock of the present situation and reassert America and that means changing the American policy to China. Failure to do it now will lead to an American collapse in another decade and a half.

Now let's look at the race problem in America. This is like cancer which is eating America from the inside and where is the guarantee that it is not being fuelled by money from China? The Dragon is the happiest country in the world with the internal rioting and dissension in America where the attention of the American people is diverted from confronting China to the racial problem. President Donald Trump seems to be fanning the flames of racism just so that his committed voters can vote for him and he can get another term in the White House. Joe Biden with his health infirmities despite making the right noises doesn't inspire confidence at all. He seems to be having degenerative infirmities and he has made matters worse by selecting an Indian origin Kamala Harris as his running mate. God forbid if anything happens to the American president like John Kennedy and Kamala Harris is catapulted as president of USA. Does any American feel that this lady will be able to project American power and control China?

Last word

These are just a few disjointed thoughts that came in my mind. The genesis of them is my drink confabulations in the club with men from England and Singapore. People say the hour finds the man. But it appears to me that hour has not come. I do not visualize either of these two contenders measuring up to the twin problems of racial strife and China, not forgetting Islamic militancy. By throwing in the towel in Afghanistan, Trump has done a great disservice to the free world. With this mindset, I wonder how successful he can be with China. As far as race problems are concerned he has already given his opinion and that is one-sided.

Joe Biden will also find it very difficult to solve the problems. The choice before the American people is just bad or too bad. Who is bad or too bad is a personal perception.

Jason, it is so nice reading your comment. Kamala Harris as President? I would not mind dying on a bed of nails laughing. I have a lot of regard for her but she is not president material and we do not know what is going to happen three years down the line. Trump did a reasonably good job as president but I think the China virus has proved his nemesis as a general feeling spread that he was not serious about it. But let us accept one fact that he was the one who had the guts to challenge China on the virus and in case, he had come back to power he would have ensured China paid a price for it. I have just commented at another place in another article the atmosphere in Singapore among the Chinese who seem to be pretty happy that Biden is going to be the President. In case Biden wins the 2024 election and his health wanes one/two years later Kamala Harris will be the President. In fact this could happen at any time and that I am sure is not a very happy thought. I will be watching the videos which you have mentioned tonight.

Jason B Truth from United States of America on November 07, 2020:

MG Singh emge? I don't know if you ever heard of Andrew Henderson, who goes by the username of Nomad Capitalist on YouTube. He used to live in your nation, Singapore, and he is someone who renounced his American citizenship and expatriated inasmuch as he could not relate to the American way of life. Anyhow, he posted two YouTube videos today regarding Joe Biden's said victory in the presidential elections, and he was conveying that many Americans will now want to expatriate from the United States of America as he did. I believe him. Then again, I honestly do not believe that Donald J. Trump will concede the presidency to Joe Biden; and if that happens, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris may encounter all sorts of difficulty evicting him and Mike Pence from the White House. I say that if President Trump can prove that there was voter fraud in our election, then I say more power to him. He shouldn't have to concede the presidency to anyone if he was, in fact, the rightful winner of the election. I personally feel that he has done a good job these past four years, and I would much rather have him as our president for the next four years than confronting the dreaded possibility that Joe Biden will die in office from an ailment pertaining to his age and his declining health and we Americans will all be stuck with Kamala Harris as our president. I like the idea of our nation having a female president, but in my humble opinion, Kamala Harris would likely have a panic attack if she were ever to become president as a result of Biden's passing. She just doesn't have what it takes to lead my nation, and even she has to know it. The reason that my nation had two presidential candidates in their twilight years was because many of our elected officials are in their twilight years. Anyhow, I liked your article. :-)

Thank you Kyler, for commenting. You have made some interesting points but the cupboard of leadership is pretty bare in America at present.

Kyler J Falk from California on September 13, 2020:

As I am watching the dumpster fire that is American politics unfold, my non-partisan neutrality has wavered. It has wavered so much so that I've come to support, in spirit only, Trump's presidency. I would never vote for the man, nor any other choice presented thus far because that would be choosing moral bankruptcy, but he seems to want to keep everything at an even keel.

If Trump were to diversify his cabinet via getting rid of Pence, replacing a few key staff members with a more neutral-leaning stance, and dropping his ego, as well as stop posting on Twitter, and making himself sound like a fragile, egomaniac; only then would I not feel morally bankrupt in voting for him.

The funny thing is, though, I like Biden and Kamala's track record. Their track record shows a more conservative-leaning mindset, but their words support racial extremism and they have further encouraged racial unrest in America. They have successfully deterred my support and positive rhetoric with their support for anti-American extremism.

A great article that gets you thinking, MG!

Thank you chitra it was so nice that you have commented. I hope your son is safe in America

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 11, 2020:

Ken, you certainly have a point that people are getting fed up of politics and more so as this election jamboree takes place every four years. The period is so short that from day one the man who wins start thinking about the next election.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 11, 2020:

Sp Greaney, just two candidates is a bit of a guided democracy. Thank you for sparing your time and giving your comment.

Sp Greaney from Ireland on September 11, 2020:

It's going to be a very interesting race that's for sure. Whoever wins is going to have a very hard job in the coming years. I do think limiting it to just two contenders narrows it too down too much.

In our 2011 Presidential election we had seven candidates from different backgrounds. In this case they have to work harder at persuading voters.

Ken Burgess from Florida on September 11, 2020:

I watched a informative video related to opening night of the NFL.

One thing of note was the depth and overwhelming amount of data coming from one study that showed 89-92% of Americans did NOT want politics or BLM in their sports.

In other words, about 90% of America is sick of it, sick of hearing about it, and sick of spoiled rich young athletes preaching to them about it.

There were a few more bits of interesting information in the video, and one cannot necessarily transfer people's preferences for sports to their overall preferences in politics... but I do think it is a big red flag as to what direction the American majority is trending.

Devika, So nice of you to have given your opinion.

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on September 11, 2020:

Interesting article and good to read your and other’s opinions. Who will win the American elections, only time will tell. The whole World is watching, because the results will affect not only America, but the other countries too. I have many relatives living and working in America, including my son.

Thanks for sharing another engaging article on a burning topic.

Devika Primić from Dubrovnik, Croatia on September 11, 2020:

MG Singh emge It is always nice to know of an opinion about the American political issues. However, I do not get involved with this type of topics. Thank you

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on September 11, 2020:

This is an interesting look at your view on American politics. Trump has really pushed companies to get out of China but they are trying to dominate the world. We ended up with their virus.

Several people ran on the democratic side and Biden won. I do have concern about Kamala Harris ending up as the president.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 10, 2020:

Kavya, thank you for a very intelligent comment. You are right that a very short tenure is an impediment for a president to carry out any decisive action and then despite theoretically an open field the choice narrows down to just two people. This looks more like 'guided democracy' then real democracy.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 10, 2020:

Barbara, nice of you to have spared time and commented. Socialism is dead and gone and I hope what you say is not true. Biden has the lead presently but its anybody's game in November.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 10, 2020:

Bill, glad to get your perspective on the topic. Thank you

Kavya Jain on September 10, 2020:

This is an intresting article. The American Constitution allows multiple parties to compete for presidentship. However, the situation always emerges that it is about Republic Vs Democratic rather it is more limited to an extent that clearly it's about D. Trump Vs Joe Biden. People are forced to make a black or white choice. Also, I believe the tenure is short in length which prevents the president to take much bolder steps, had it been a longer and more secure tenure, we might have seen much daring voice against virus producing country. My point is first of all the choice is limited for people, secondly the short length of tenure somewhere prevents brave actions. This is having an adverse effect on functioning of country.

Barbara Purvis Hunter from Florida on September 10, 2020:

President Trump has done more for our country than any president beside President Lincoln. The rioting, burning, looting and especially hurting the Black communities in the Dem run states are encouraged by Biden, Harris George Soros, Clintons and Nancy Pelosi. They are all for Socialism and if Biden does win America will never be the same and we will have to live under their rules. Search YouTube to hear how the Blacks are for Trump because he has done more for them than any other president before him.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on September 10, 2020:

Interesting look at our upcoming election. I do agree that China is a problem which must be met with strength.

And yes, there are Americans who believe Harris can lead us as President. I'm one of them!

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 10, 2020:

John, you have a point that I have been emphasizing. Let's see.

John Carpenter on September 10, 2020:

This is an interesting article. I agree the cupboard is pretty bare that all America can throw up are two leaders who are old and really should be feeding fish in a pond with their grandchildren. Not lead the most powerful nation in the world and top it both have Achilles heel as far as China is concerned. These are the portents that the sun is setting on America as a global no 1.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 09, 2020:

Hi Flourish, I hope for gods sake and America you are right on Biden. Thanks for your comment.

FlourishAnyway from USA on September 09, 2020:

Vote, Vote, Vote! I disagree with your statements on Biden‘s health. Conversely, Trump is an obviously unhealthy man (obese, slow, doesn’t exercise — famously over relies on that golf cart. Plus, temperament is also a key consideration. The current mess happened on Trump’s watch and he directly fanned the flames of racial and ethnic animosity with rhetoric at Charlottesville and at other key junctures.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on September 09, 2020:

Dear Yves, I appreciate your comments and thank you for sparing time and making your views heard

Yves on September 09, 2020:

I am not sure what you mean by "American Global Domination." America is a Super-Power, but we are are also a nation made strong by the tenets of freedom. We are also the most benevolent country on the planet. We give approximately 2/3 of our wealth to help other nations. I would hardly call that "dominant."

You are dead wrong about President Trump "fanning the flames of racism." That is the MO of the Left. It has always been...! and if given free reign, it will be the destruction of America.
