Africa Dug a Deep Hole and Buried Its Talent

I got my interest in writing while in primary school. I enjoy creating stories that can be read by people. And I am the first to read them.

African Nations With Their Riches

Africa is extremely rich in natural resources, particularly precious metals and oil.

Africa is extremely rich in natural resources, particularly precious metals and oil.

Africa Dug a Deep Hole and Hid its Talents

Africa dug a deep hole and hid its talent a long time ago. Then it took out an old tin and started using it for begging. And this is where the problems dogging Africa started.

Before you start wondering what is happening here, I better quote a verse from the Bible so that we can understand one another. Allow me to do so here:

Matthew 25:15-18

“15. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several abilities; and straightway took his journey. 16. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

17. And likewise, he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18. But he that had received one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money.” - Matthew 25:15-18.

We Must Utilize Our Talents

Looking at the above parable, we learn some very important lessons about our talents. Each of us has been given various talents and we are supposed to use them to our benefits and also to help others.

We are not supposed to sleep on our talents and neither are we supposed to misuse them. And for sure many people have utilized theirs well and we can attest to that by seeing the fruit of their hard work.

Africa Must Utilize Its Resources

The same way people have been given talents, continents, and their countries have been given them too.

But in Africa, like the man in the parable, we hid ours in a deep pit and started complaining that we had been given little.

Instead of utilizing the various vast resources, we have been blessed in the whole of Africa, we have been left complaining. We are misusing what we have and looking up to the developed world for help.

This has left the continent plagued with so many challenges in the process adversely affecting its inhabitants.

Some Things We Need to Know

  • There are vast untapped resources in Africa
  • Most of these resources end up enriching the developed nations
  • The remaining ones are plundered by some money-hungry African leaders
  • Most African people are hardworking but they lack the necessary support
  • There is too much dependence on Aide and Grants which are crippling African countries
  • Africa can unite and move forward successfully

Africa Must Throw Away Its Begging Bowl

And thus every day when the sun rises, we take our begging bowl and extend it towards the developed world hoping to get something to eat for the day.

It is such a sad situation because we beg when we are sitting on the numerous resources we were given. The developed nations come and plunder them as we sleep on them.

The remaining ones are plundered by some greedy leaders whose only interest is to amass enormous wealth.

If we could utilize them, we would not need the help of any other nation at all. There would be enough for everyone and our children would never go hungry.

African Leaders Must Stop Plundering The Continent's Resources

Yes, indeed, the developed world is much ahead of us but we do not have to worry, we can catch up with them soon if we wake up from deep slumber.

Then we must throw away our begging bowl and be ready to utilize the resources we have. The leaders must stop stealing the national cake and learn to share it with everyone.

We have a lot of hardworking people who needs support but not harassment as they go about their businesses.

The innovative people require much support and I am sure they can build space crafts and other sophisticated machines. There is a lot of untapped talent that goes to waste as they are never utilized.

Time For Africa to Wake Up

To you African leaders, it is time to wake up, serve and support your people. Let us work on the resources we have and we will be able to catch up with the rest of the developed world.

Work hand in hand to solve the numerous problems facing your subjects. Bring peace to the warring nations and ease the suffering of the hungry ones.

Very true Mpfana Manu. If only we could get good leadership. We would have a very great continent. Let us hope things will change for the benefit of all.

Yes, manatita44. I would want to change how the leaders and people of Africa view this beautiful and gifted continent. We can do better than what we are doing and have already done.

Yes it is true vespawoolf that we have many resources only that they are being misused by the leaders. We are hopeful that things will turn to be good soon.

What an interesting application of the Biblical parable! I´m sure Africa has many valuable resources, but as in many parts of the world corruption limits who benefits from them. I hope Africa wakes up from its slumber soon. : )
