At midnight all the agents and the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone that knows more than they do
Research pinpoints the importance of "integrating" society and "mobilizing" change; gather data, detect, and inform. Research measures probabilities. Considers alternative explanations. Materializes possibilities. Enables options. Wills choice.
Research conveys information in numeric form - statistics, probability - to address health disparities, for example. Yet some circumstances and contexts also call for the construction of collective works with communities, to find the greatest theoretical depth in the experiences of individuals.
That’s when narrative meets research.
(About the time the doorknob broke)
“Narrative research aims to explore and conceptualize human experience as it is represented in textual form. Aiming for an in-depth exploration of the meanings people assign to their experiences, narrative researchers work with small samples of participants to obtain rich and free-ranging discourse.”
Narratives can be used to provide an outlet for those that do not have a strong voice in their community. They can be a powerful tool to share individual stories and shared experiences of community members.
“Narratives can also have a personal impact on and benefit for the storyteller at the individual level. Creating a narrative around a personal illness can give a person an opportunity to think differently about an emotional experience.”
To build partnerships. Empower. Educate.
“storytelling draws from the expertise and the wisdom of the population it seeks to serve”.
