A Life Was Saved

We must not blame this police officer for saving the life of another girl. As much as we hate for this 16-year-old girl to die .

What would You Do

Americans are outraged at the lives of so many blacks being killed by white police officers. Tuesday Ma'khia Bryant, a 16-year-old black girl as fatally killed by a police officer, on the same day Derek Chauvin was convicted for killing George Floyd. 911 received a call from a teenager saying someone was trying to stab them. When the police arrived at the scene they saw Bryant chasing two girls with something in her hands. One of the girls was pinned on a car with Ma'khia, swinging a kitchen knife at her. The officer told her to get down, she refuses, she was in front of the girl waving the knife.

After watching the video footage I came to the conclusion that the police officer had no choice, it was to shot her or watch her harm or kill the girl. Ma'khia was out of control, she wanted blood. A group of people stood back watching these young women fighting instead of trying to defuse the situation. No one ever wants to get involved. Ma'khia might have been alive if anyone had tried to stop the fight.

For the second night, protesters took to the streets demonstrating the death of Bryant, chanting and calling out her name.

Everyone is opinionated about the shooting of this 16-year -old child, but she was not justified in what she did, she was intended to take a life. Unlike George Floyd, she was closing turmoil with a knife in the street. Floyd was no threat to the four police officers who surrounded him, he was faced down on the ground handcuffed with no weapon.

Derek Chauvin Kneel on the neck of Floyd until his last breath slipped away from him. Ma'Khia Bryant carried a weapon to do bodily harm to another human how can anyone justify her behavior? This was a tragedy that the life of a young girl was taken, but we must not blame the police officer for also saving a life. What would any of us do if we had to make that choice?

My only problem that she was shot four times. I believe in protesting when it is for the right reason but don't try to justify what this young girl did. She might have killed the other young girl . No one knows what transpired between these young women or who was right or wrong. A 16-year-old girl is dead Who do we blame? After watching the Video footage I came to the conclusions that the cop was justified because one life was saved. We do need to communicate more and learn to respect each other. Fighting with someone these days will end up in someone going home and coming back with a weapon.

Thank you for your comment I do agree with you

"A group of people stood back watching these young women fighting instead of trying to defuse the situation. No one ever wants to get involved." - This is a very difficult situation. My rule and the rule for many others is: "Charge a gun, run from a knife" - that is the self-defense rule. So, not many people are skilled enough to charge a knife and I would not recommend it.

My question is: could the officer not have shot for the legs, or shoulders, or maybe instead of four shots just two shots could have been enough ...? I do not know in this situation. What if he had used his taser instead of his gun? I might have even thrown the extendable baton at her. Getting hit with that, might have stopped the charge. It's difficult to say in this case as there was very little time for reaction.

We need to talk to each other more, rather than fight each other. I think that would help. Of course now, with someone dead talking is no longer possible. Brutally sad.

Thank You for your piece of writing.

All the best!

A police officer shot and killed Ma'khia Bryant, what a tragedy. What would any one of us do if we had to make a choice like the police officer did. The video footage showed us how angry this young lady was. Her intention was to harm or kill the other girl, who can we blame.
