A Biden Presidency: What it Could Mean

An senior air warrior and political observer who has the pulse of the region and can sense a change when it comes.

Donald Trump has lost the election. That is how the world looks at America. Trump has not conceded defeat yet and he may by going to the Supreme Court fire his last shot. He will be hoping that maybe the Supreme Court will reverse the election result. In my opinion there is only a slim chance of this happening and for all practical purposes Joe Biden will be the president of the United States.

There are many supporters of Joe Biden and many of them are from the non-white community and include the African Americans who are rejoicing that Biden has won. I hope they will remember the democrats have been in power off and on for 200 years and yet the lot of the black man has not improved; what I mean to say is the bias against colour has not gone. Thus on the home front Biden in going to be confronted with racial problems as well as the Covid virus which caused the downfall of Trump.

I know of many people in Singapore who have told me that this virus was the Chinese plan to destabilize the United States and the Western world and they have succeeded.

Donald Trump

For all his faults Donald Trump changed the direction of America in a number of ways. He brought in peace in the Middle East and he downgraded the Western Alliance which was a big drain on the American economy. During his last year in office he realized the danger of China and levied tariffs on Chinese goods. He had also realized the danger of Iran and walked out of the Nuclear deal.

The problem which I pointed out even earlier is, that a four-year period in office is too short for a leader to set the course for a Nation and is one of the reasons for the Americans having been slowly losing their international clout. This was particularly marked from the time of Bill Clinton. These short tenures lead to the idea of an incumbent just completing his term and then retiring and having a good time as an "elder statesman" but overall there is no continuity in the policy and every new incumbent brings his own fresh ideas.

Clock back?

The result is that sometimes the clock is put back. The ascent of Joe Biden to the presidency is one such phase in American life. I have one thing against Donald Trump and that is he ruled by tweets but though he was tweeting left right and Center he did not follow up with action and overall he threw in the towel at a number of places like Afghanistan, Turkey and the Middle East. It was only in his last year he realized that the virus was a Chinese engineered diabolical plan

Now Biden his come and he is going to reverse all actions of Trump. Let us see what is going to be the effect of that on the future of America.

Likely Biden Era

Joe Biden has been in public life for close to 50 years. That's a pretty long time and during this half century there is nothing to distinguish his activities. Nobody can pinpoint what distinguishes him from other run of the mill politicians. Such a man by force of circumstances has been catapulted into the chair of the president., He has not started with distinction. He has stated he is going to bring America back into the mainstream and restore America's standing in the world by doing away with most of the policies that Donald Trump had followed.

I think Joe Biden has not realized that the coffers of the American state are not perpetual. One can recollect the Hindu God of wealth Kuber, had coffers of gold and they also got depleted. This is with regard to the west European countries and the NATO which is taking a big bite of the American budget. Trump had realized that NATO and most historians also feel the same way that just keeping a huge army in Europe and supporting the alliance with money against an imaginary threat from Russia is not the best way forward. Russia as we know is no longer the world power and its economic power pretty low. Its GDP is even lower than India's. Just creating the Bogey of Russia is not going to be a great thing for Joe Biden.

Iran and China

Biden has also stated that he will go back to the nuclear deal with Iran. We must remember that Donald Trump had withdrawn from the nuclear deal because Iran was not playing fair. There is no doubt that Iran continues to fund its nuclear program. Joe Biden will be committing the biggest blunder by removing sanctions against Iran. This will allow the Iranian economy that had been strangulated by Donald Trump to rise again. America will regret this decision of Joe Biden. Come what may Iran will have the nuclear bomb.

Donald Trump had clearly defined Islamic terrorism as one of the biggest dangers to the world. Joe Biden does not perhaps agree with that idea. He has stated that he will discontinue the policies regarding nationals of some countries coming to the USA. This is again playing with fire as one can see what the minority community has been doing in France and Europe.

Biden has stated that he will try and bring China back into the mainstream of world politics. Nothing could be more foolish. America has been trying to bring China into the comity of nations for the last 50 years notably from the time of Bill Clinton. The policy was put into effect by Richard Nixon of engaging with China. Many have now pointed out that American wealth in billions of dollars of investment into China has made it the rival of America.

Biden stating that he is going to bring China to play by rules in the world is a wishful statement. It is as clear as daylight that China does not want any competition and wants to replace the USA as the world's number one power. Even a blind man can see this..

Biden talks on human rights but has not set a word on Tibet and the Muslims of which one million are in concentration camps in Sinkiang. On the contrary his vice president elect is criticizing India for human rights violations.

Trump is not God and he made so many mistakes like withdrawing from the climate agreement. It is good if Biden rectifies such mistakes.

There was a time when China was a poor nation, way behind America but now it matches America and is exercising a clout all over the world. It will be foolish for him to think that he will be able to bring China into the comity of nations. Yes it is possible if the yen is made the world currency. Unfortunately Biden is just not able to see beyond his nose. I think its a sad thing that a nondescript man has been selected as the president of the United States. There are many other points but then in a short article you can't mention all of them.

Last word

There was an old song sung by Doris Day,"whatever will be will be." I have to complete this article by remembering this song. This may be the wish of God that a man like to Biden should become the president of the United States. I feel 50 years from now people will say that the down slide i.e beginning of the end of American power started with Joe Biden.

Sure, America needed a better man then Donald Trump but sadly in my opinion Joe Biden is not that man. Four years is a very short time and we shall soon watch what Biden is going to achieve. These are a few disjointed thoughts that come to my mind of all places in the bar. Adios! read them with a peg of Chivas Regal and enjoy life. No offence meant.

Pamela, thanks for commenting. It's becoming a bit of a pain to comment after the new changes. I wonder why they did it.

Thank you Devika, for sparing time and commenting.

Devika Primić from Dubrovnik, Croatia on December 05, 2020:

Interesting and well-researched on this topic.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on December 05, 2020:

This is a very interesting article, and I think you are right. I am concerned about several things, especially China and Iran. I think Trump has handled those two things well. If he stops fracking we will not be energy independent. I guess time will tell.

I could not find your last article on my feed, but I am reading all of them because they are always excellent, MG.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on December 05, 2020:

Thank you John, nice comment. I don't think its going to happen because now Russia and China have formed ONE block and the responsibility of driving Russia into China's arms are the needless sanctions by the west. I go to Russia very often and the mood is pretty bitter against the USA .

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on December 05, 2020:

An interesting article, MG. I like your insights and I am particularly concerned how Biden will handle China. They need to be somehow controlled and that will only happen if the rest of the world joins together and takes a powerful stand.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on December 05, 2020:

Nick, probably worse.I think its the cycle of history when empires disintegrate it is because the rulers who come are weak and inept.

MG Singh emge (author) from Singapore on December 05, 2020:

Thank you Chitra, so nice to read your comment.

Is a Biden Presidency, Obama policies Mk II?

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on December 05, 2020:

Good, engaging and analytical article, which I enjoyed reading.

And now I am going to tune in the song by Doris Day, ‘Whatever will be, will be.’

Thanks for the reference. Have a good day.
