Ever since I was a kid I was brought up to be frugal and to save and budget money. * Disclaimer: I am not a financial planner.
Fortunately, there are several ways that you can save money on your next Airbnb stay:
do your research
To ensure that you're making the most of your money, it's important to check reviews before booking. A good host should be responsive and helpful to guests, so look for hosts who have a high star rating (4+ stars). You can also read reviews on Airbnb itself or on sites like TripAdvisor. Ask yourself: does this location meet my needs? Do I feel safe here? Is the host friendly and helpful?
If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. If a place is really cheap for what it offers, there might be some hidden costs or caveats involved with staying there. For example, if a place claims that they're "entire home" but in reality they live upstairs while you stay downstairs in the basement—that may not be ideal!
search for potential homes in advance
Searching for a home in advance of your trip can help you find the best deals and avoid paying more than necessary. The search function on Airbnb is very robust, with plenty of filters to narrow down your results. If you want to find homes that are pet-friendly, or have more than one bedroom, or are located near a particular attraction like the beach, just use the filter options to narrow things down! Additionally, using this tool will help you plan out where to stay so that once it's time for your vacation, all you have left is booking the place and packing up your bags!
check for additional fees
When looking for a cheap Airbnb, it's important to check for additional fees. You might assume that the advertised price is all you'll have to pay, but that's not always true. Many hosts add extra charges at checkout or on check-in. Here are some common ones:
- Security deposit: A security deposit is an amount of money paid in advance by guests as a guarantee against damages or losses caused by their stay at an apartment or other accommodation facility such as hotels, motels and inns. The average security deposit charged per night ranges between $20 USD and $50 USD depending on location according to Hostfully data science team analysis based on more than 100 million bookings made over 3 years worldwide*.
- Cleaning fee: Cleaning fees cover cleaning services after your stay ends which can vary depending on how messy someone was with their belongings during their visit - if they smoked inside then expect higher costs! It’s generally around 50% more expensive than normal cleaning costs because they need special equipment like those used in restaurants like mop buckets etc.* Extra guest fees: Some landlords require additional guests be charged extra (sometimes up to double) so make sure you ask ahead before booking!
be wary of the cleaning fee
A cleaning fee is usually charged to cover the cost of cleaning, but many of these fees are very high. You may be asked to pay as much as $150 for a cleaning fee, even if you leave the place spotless. If you're not interested in paying this amount, you can ask them if they're willing to lower their price or waive it completely.
ask about discounts
If you're staying in one place for a long time, ask about discounts. Many landlords are willing to offer a break on the cost of your stay if you're staying for a longer period of time. Some also offer discounts for stays during slow seasons and holidays, as well as special events such as the Olympics or World Cup. If you're going to be there anyway, why not get an extra discount?
there are many ways to get discounts on airbnb
You can save money by asking. Even if you are not planning on booking a room, ask the host if they have any special offers or discounts available. You never know when they might have something that could save you money on your next stay. For example, one host I stayed with gave me access to the pool and spa area for free because he wanted to get more people staying in his property. He said that it was more profitable for him that way!
Some hosts may offer complimentary breakfasts or other meals as well as free transportation from the airport or train station when you stay at their place. So be sure to ask about any special offers before booking your trip!
