Shopping on a Budget
About 6 months ago, I was going through a large financial struggle. It was difficult to make ends meet, and the growing price of simple, everyday items had me stressed and seriously lacking. I felt like I was not able to get basic things that I might need during the week, such as a toothpaste and a toothbrush. Maybe you have been in this situation before; maybe this is something you are all too familiar with. A lot of people have said different things about Dollar Tree, and I was skeptical at first, but this store has become one way that I can save money and still get the essential items I need every month. Here are five reasons that you should consider shopping at Dollar Tree every month.
1. Staple Items
Contrary to what you might think, Dollar Tree actually carries a lot of staple items that you might not have thought would be in a dollar store. There is a variety of food, drinks, as well as personal care items. In recent years, the Dollar Tree’s personal hygiene and care section has only gotten larger, carrying everything from Tylenol (generic or small bottles) to herbal supplements, to even feminine care products of many kinds. It is amazing to see these types of essential items in a store where everything's a dollar, and everything is within your budget.
2. Food Items
More specifically, Dollar Tree does not just sell weird off brands of foods; they actually carry some name brand foods and if you are in the store on the right day, you might find a good deal on food that you can’t turn down. I have seen Bugles, Lays Chips, and special desserts and popsicles from name brands stock the shelves and freezer aisles. I have gotten excited about finding Dove, Godiva, and Ferrero Rocher chocolates at the Dollar Tree. It’s amazing what you will find on any given day. If you are looking to stock up on snack foods but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for those groceries, check out your local Dollar Tree and create a mini-stockpile of snack foods for your pantry.
3. Brand Name Items
As stated previously, sometimes, you can find brand name items at the Dollar Tree, and this doesn’t just apply to the food selection. There are many name brand products in the beauty and wellness aisles that you can find at your local Dollar Tree. Brands such as Revlon, Maybelline, Hard Candy, ELF, and Wet N Wild have been seen on the shelves at many locations. It seems too good to be true sometimes and a little hard to believe, but one of the reasons these name brands hit the shelves at dollar stores for only a buck is because the company or manufacturer of those goods likely updated the product in some way, so any older style of the logos or packaging has to be cleared out. Companies will sell these items in bulk to dollar stores to move the product. I never realized all that goes into that but it amazes me still, and I feel great because I can get name brand makeup products for the right price.
Your House Can Still Feel Like Home!
4. Holiday Decor/Gifts
In recent years, I have noticed that Dollar Tree is definitely stepping up their game when it comes to holiday decor and gifts. There are styles of decor to suit any household, from that cute, farmhouse look to a more modern look. This year, for Christmas, I’ve noticed a lot of classic style Christmas signs as well as lots of cute little gnomes. I think it’s pretty cool that a discount store still stays trendy. Adding to that, especially during the holiday season, Dollar Tree has cute gift sets that you can buy at a bargain. You absolutely don’t have to break your bank to treat someone this Christmas!
5. Saving Money
My last reason why Dollar Tree is one of the best stores to shop at is simply this; you will save SO much money buying your everyday products and essentials at this store. Obviously, you can’t find everything at the dollar store, but you can find a good amount of items that you can start saving money on now. Create your own piggy bank or keep track of the money you save on those purchases; then, put that money into something good for you and your family.
Not everyone cares for dollar stores and discount stores, but I am definitely a fan of Dollar Tree. Shopping there has not only helped me to save money and get out of a financial crisis, it has also made me a smart shopper. I am now more familiar with discounts at other stores, and can find ways to save money on purchases at other stores as well. I think Dollar Tree is a great place to start if you are interested in couponing and working on a monthly budget for your essential items. It can also be a great place to start with a stockpile. The possibilities are truly endless and ultimately, it is your decision how you want to spend your money. Dollar Tree is one of my favorite discount stores and I highly recommend it to those that are living on a budget.
