Quick Cash: 30 Ways to Make Easy Money in One Day

A list of 30 ideas for getting immediate cash-in-hand.

A list of 30 ideas for getting immediate cash-in-hand.

Do You Need Money Now?

My idea of fast cash is getting money now, not in a week, but having cash in hand that day and without needing a lot of money to invest in to begin with.

In order to get money quickly and legally, you either have to sell, borrow, or beg for something.

Here are some ideas that you may not have thought of before. Some are online and some are offline, some well-worn and others a bit edgy, but hey, you need money and a man's got to do what a man's (or woman's) got to do!

1. Rent out Your Apartment and Go Stay with a Friend

I've actually done this one so I know it's possible, but I live in Manhattan where you can rent out just about anything for the right price. These days, it's so easy to list a temporary rental on Craigslist, anyone can do it. If you live in a busy destination spot or you know of a big upcoming event in your town, consider using your house or apartment to earn money.

2. Sell Plasma

This has been a tried-and-true method to earn fast cash for a long time now. Why? Because it works. Apparently, selling blood is illegal but selling plasma isn't. If you want to do this, just Google "where can I sell plasma in [your town]" and go from there.

Garage sales are easy and fun.

Garage sales are easy and fun.

3. Have a Garage Sale

Sure, it's been done, but still, it's a great way to get rid of your old junk and make some easy cash. You say you don't have enough stuff? Well, hit up your friends, family, and neighbors. I'm sure they have enough old stuff that they would be glad to get rid of!

4. Sell Something on Craigslist or eBay

If your stuff is too valuable for a garage sale, put up an ad and sell it. Again, see if your neighbor, friend, or acquaintance has any items they'd like to sell and offer to do it for them for a cut. Many people are too busy to do it themselves and they would be glad for your help. You'd be surprised at what people will buy!

5. Collect Bottles and Cans

This is what I call homeless work, but hey, homeless people aren't collecting bottles and cans for nothing! For every recyclable container you bring in, you can earn approximately 5 to 10 cents, and it adds up quickly.

6. Borrow It

If you have family or friends, ask them for a loan. Why not? The worst they can do is say no and think less of you, but maybe they'll understand. Keep your mind on the cash, baby! If you have no friends, there are other people that will lend you money (see the video at the end of this article), although of course the terms may not be the greatest and you do have to have good credit.

7. Babysit

Babysitters make about $10.00 an hour (depending on your area and how many kids are being watched). If I were you, I'd pile them in. Of course, you don't want Children's Protective Services on your case, so keep it to five kids at a time and you'll earn around $50.00 an hour (if you can handle it).

Sell your old books for extra cash.

Sell your old books for extra cash.

8. Sell Your Old Books

Many cities have bookstores that will buy old books. I've sold over 100 books at a store called Book-Off. From what I understand, Strand's also buys books. I've also sold books at Powell's bookstore in Portland, Oregon. Usually you don't get much for your books. In New York I only got, on average, a dollar per book, but I sold all 150 books I brought for a total of $150. It isn't much but it's better than nothing for books that you don't want or have already read.

9. Shovel Snow

If it's snowing, put an offer on Craigslist to shovel snow. This is pretty self-explanatory, but I'll explain anyway. Check out other snow-shovelers, see what they are charging, and then undercut them a little. A little competition never hurt anyone and hey, you're desperate, right!

10. Pawn Something

You know that ring your great aunt left you that you never wear? Pawn it! You can get it back later if you want to.

11. Rent out Your Couch (or Spare Room)

I've done this too (but once again, I'm in Manhattan). People who don't have money for a hotel still need a place to sleep and shower, and believe me they'd much rather stay on your couch than sleep in the car or on a park bench. Of course, you should be careful not to rent out to criminals, but if you interview your prospective lodger carefully, trust your gut feelings, and get some money up front, it should work out for you; it worked out for me.

12. Rent out Your Garage

Clean up your crap and list your garage as a place where someone else can store their crap. Storage is expensive. If you can undercut the going rate, you will have takers.

Make extra money doing odd jobs.

Make extra money doing odd jobs.

13. Mow Lawns

Give the local tween a run for his money: it's a dog-eat-dog world, you know!

14. Clean Gutters

Many people don't have the time or skill to do this job themselves. Make sure you know what you are doing and aren't afraid of heights.

15. Sign up as an Extra on a Movie

In New York or L.A., you can do this and get paid the same day. Everywhere else you're kind of out of luck on this one, although more and more movies are getting made in places like New Orleans, San Francisco, Miami, and Atlanta. Check Backstage Casting for more information.

Earn money taking care of people's pets.

Earn money taking care of people's pets.

16. Pet-Sit and Walk Dogs

The nice thing about this is that you can do other jobs while you're on the job, like babysitting, so you could make twice the money for the same hours. I'm always thinking!

17. Same-Day Jobs

Depending on where you live, Craigslist often has one-day jobs like cleaning someone's apartment that day. Check Craigslist's listings under "gigs,” as well as their job listings under “part-time” and “etc.”

18. Pose as a Nude Model

You don't have to be young or cute or female for this job. At art schools and classes that need live models, one can make $30 to $100 dollars an hour. I wouldn't do this, but you might.

19. Promote Clubs

In New York and other large cities, you can make from $400 to $1000 a week promoting clubs. Usually this entails standing on the curb and handing out fliers but hey, there are worse things out there!

20. "I Will Wait for You"

I heard of a woman who advertised that she would wait for the cable guy, the electrician, or a plumber for you for a certain rate per hour. I thought it sounded like a good idea because people are busy and don't want to take time off of work.

21. Taxi, Anyone?

Give the local taxi service a run for their money. If you have a car, you can offer rides for a price. If you can wait until the end of the week to be paid, there are informal taxi services like Uber which will hire you as an independent contractor.

You can always beg as a last resort.

You can always beg as a last resort.

22. Beg

Sit in front of Starbucks looking depressed, with a cup and a sign saying that you need money for food. Hey it works, I saw a guy sit in a busy downtown Manhattan Starbucks and I think he took in at least 200 bucks while I watched him for 2½ hours. They also fed him lunch. I considered it for a moment but thought, ”I'm too fat. No one would believe that I'm starving,” so I didn't do it. :)

23. Payday Loans

I hate to even mention these, because the high rates are a ripoff (the equivalent of up to 400% interest, compared to up to 30% for credit cards). Still, they are a way to get money fast.

24. Exchange Your Paper Dollars for Quarters

I know this makes no sense, but let me explain. Sometimes you'll find valuable old coins that you can sell for a profit. Until 1965, the US used real silver in its quarters: that year they stopped, since the value of the quarter's silver exceeded 25 cents. You can identify silver quarters by looking at the edge: the quarters that are not silver will have a stripe of copper. The ones that are all silver don't have the copper stripe and are dated between 1932 and 1964. This site about U.S. Coins will help you figure out what to look for and how much you'll get. Value depends on the scarcity of the coin and the current price of silver: last I checked, silver was worth about $20.00 an ounce.

If you don't wear it, you might as well cash it in.

If you don't wear it, you might as well cash it in.

25. Sell Your Old Gold Jewelry

I think gold is going up, up, up, so you won't get the best deal, but if you really need cash right now, I mean today, they will give it to you.

26. Count Cards

Again, this is taking a risk, but life is risky. Counting cards at card games like blackjack—using memory techniques to estimate the proportion of low to high cards left in the deck—can put the odds in your favor when you bet. It isn't illegal, but the casinos don't like it. If you can learn how to count cards, then the odds are in your favor. If not, then you are just throwing your money away because the odds are against you. I would not recommend playing cards for money if you can't count cards successfully.

27. Fix Something

What are you good at? Can you fix a computer or a car? Advertise on Craigslist, fix something for someone, and you will be paid in cash that day!

28. Sell Junk Metals

Copper is going up, so if you can find copper and other scrap metal, you can sell it to a junk metal dealer and get money that very day. Of course, you shouldn't steal it, as some are prone to do!

29. Pick Fruit and Sell It

In the summer, in places like the northwest, blackberries grow like weeds. Pick them, set up a small roadside stand, and sell them.

30. Last but Not Least, SELL YOURSELF!

This isn't what you think: Get your mind out of the gutter! There are websites like care.com or Craigslist where you can offer your services for a day or two for cash. I did this once for a man who was hospitalized and didn't want to impose on his friends to come and pick him up. I made $30.00 an hour, in cash, to escort him out of the hospital. Seriously, all I did was walk him out, help him back to his apartment, and get him some ice at the corner store. It was the easiest money I ever made. I did several odd jobs from that site and was always paid well, in cash, that very day. So give it a go. Who knows, you might find a niche that suits you and provides enough money to start your own business!

Okay, that's all I can think of for now, all that's legal at least :), so good luck in making fast cash! If you have any other ideas, please comment below.

I never had luck selling books; showed up to a place with around 20 and the woman only offered me 5 dollars for three of them. Begging works great! Especially in a first world country

I don't know..but I do know a lot of people who check their coins on a regular basis.

Ronald E Franklin from Mechanicsburg, PA on April 15, 2015:

Your #24, exchanging paper dollars for quarters, is intriguing. I wonder how often you'd find one of the old quarters that actually have silver in it. You got me looking through my coin jar to see what I could find. So far, I've found several from the 70s, but none from 1965 or earlier. Maybe somebody already had this idea and has been practicing it on a mass scale!

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on April 15, 2015:

Good point, "colorfulone", thanks for the tips.

Susie Lehto from Minnesota on April 15, 2015:

Great suggestions, Brie. There are many ways to earn money.

Just think of all the gold that gets thrown away in old remote controls, TV's, radios and so no. All those little gold parts will add up.

Kris on March 11, 2015:

I thought the list was amazing until I got to number 22. No self respecting person would suggest someone who can work, beg. That to me is disgusting.

ilme2886 on February 04, 2015:

I have another idea. If you have elderly or disabled people in your neighborhood, offer to do things for them such as grocery shopping, shovelling snow, mowing their yard, raking leaves, cleaning their house, or walking their dog. Charge only a small weekly fee for the service, plus gas if the task involves driving.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on September 28, 2014:

Yeah, not every idea will work in every place but I'm glad you found some that work for you. Thanks for writing in.

AOkay12 from Florida on September 28, 2014:

I know there are many people earning a good living through Craigslist. But I don't have any success using it. Many would-be buyers (AND sometimes even sellers) like to play games on Craigslist. Some of them just aren't serious about doing business. That's been my experience.

The last suggestion is very good and it actually works. Where I live, people pick mangoes, coconuts and oranges off the trees and sell them roadside. They have to watch out for the cops, though!

mary larr on September 26, 2014:

Thanks for helping me with money

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on August 29, 2014:

You are right! I didn't know that so I called the Red Cross, apparently selling blood is illegal but selling plasma isn't. Thanks for pointing this out, I have changed the article!

beautifulearth on August 29, 2014:

Selling Blood is illegal and very dangerous for health. I sincerely suggest you to remove "selling blood" since it is illegal and unethical. Although you say you are not advising people but somehow people will get some kind of motivation from it.

Otherwise, it's a wonderful Hub.

Rochelle Frank from California Gold Country on April 12, 2013:

As a former art student in college, we had nude models of all shapes, sizes and ages. You don't have to be 'perfect' at all. I especially remember a very heavy woman and she was a challenge to draw. One of my favorites was an elderly yogi man... he was excellent at holding a complicated pose perfectly still for an extended time. He was doing his daily exercise-- and getting paid!

I enjoyed reading your ideas.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on April 12, 2013:

I think that is an excellent idea..you might have some refrigerator magnets made up with your business name, number and email on it and give them out. No one will misplace a refrigerator magnet!

Audrey Hunt from Idyllwild Ca. on April 12, 2013:

I live in the mountains and the local grocery stores are rather expensive. Been thinking about bringing in extra cash by offering to go shopping for the elderly or anyone else, each time I make the hour drive downhill to Costco, etc. I could charge a service fee which would cover the cost of gas. You've listed some good ways to make extra cash.

Ruminta Sari from Sleman on December 03, 2012:

many of the ideas can't be applied by most people but still the overall idea can be an eye opener for someone in certain condition.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on November 08, 2012:

Yes, that's true...thanks for commenting "SewWhat".

SewWhat on November 08, 2012:

I'm an artist and I took a life drawing class at an art gallery where we had a nude model. The gallery and group of dedicated artists appreciated how hard she worked. It's not easy holding the same pose for 10-30 minutes. You're just trying to get the proportions of the human anatomy correct to even notice she's nude. It's hard.

The other idea for fast cash in our city is collecting scrap metal and taking it to the scrap yard.

Donna Kristine from Atlanta, GA on June 26, 2012:

Some of these are very doable for me, except posing nude - I would probably get paid for NOT posing nude. Great Hub. Voted up.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on April 14, 2012:

Thanks, I need to see if I can add some more ideas.

FirstStepsFitness on April 13, 2012:

Very creative ideas Brie , Love your list . Concerning the nude modeling idea , when I took life drawing the models were so challenging to sketch , they were necessary for our learning experience so ,,,,,,, Great Hub !

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on February 01, 2012:

I agree but I put it in there because it is money you can get in one day or less and who knows what circumstances a person is in whereby a high interest rate is the lessor of two evils.

MarloByDesign from United States on February 01, 2012:

I agree with many of your great ideas like shoveling, but I respectfully disagree with Payday loans. The interest rates are so high and put people in more debt. Just saying...

Hello Brie Hoffman, You are great. I loved reading this "Hub." (whatever that means.) I just lost my @ss at the casino. None of your ideas will really work for me. I was thinking of calling the police and having them take me to the hospital to talk to someone about some kind of money they can give me monthly for my depression. I don't take any drugs. I don't have money, insurance or a doctor. I couldn't even pay for a perscription*... What can I do?! Please help me. The Hospital will try to charge me or send me a bill also!!! I don't really NEED drugs, I need money!; But I feel the way I am and how I act I could get some kind of payment or help! I am really screwed and need help! If the wrong timer goes off in my head I will end up trying to rob a store. If I got caught, I would have no choice but to run to the nearest bridge and jump head first. My family is poor, it's hard to get a gallon of milk around here. None of them have any time for anything but work and sleep. How can someone with nothing, get help or something? I am basically a man with few skills that was locked up in prison for 10 years and just set free, with nothing and no one. (I wasn't actually locked up or committed any crimes for that matter.)

I feel you are smarter just by this one Hub I have read from you then any people on YAHOO Q&A.

If you can give me any ideas or urge me to seek help. If Brie Hoffman is your real name I will send you money (when I get it), I promise.

I mean... No car, no job, virtually no place to stay, no friends or family that have any time to help me. No gosh darn stores in my walking distance that can hire me. What does one do?! I always hear people say... "I don't have a car, can't get a job".. "Get a job, then buy a car". HOW IS this possible!.. Bus? Rides from friends.. none of these options are within my reach.

I'm sure by now you're thinking... "Just end your life dude, it's not worth it. leave me alone. you annoying punk"

Sorry to make you read this. I am just one person out of many millions that have many millions of problems.

Im gonna post this anyway because I really need an idea, maybe something I'm missing.

If you DO reply I will probly be in the hospital already before I can read it! Those people will take my situation way to serious and it might affect my family. They cannot afford to take even a day off of work!

I need money so bad to give my parents and family a vacation. I would love to add 15 years on to their life. They're being drained of all energy and not eating properly because they have no time.

Maybe I should send this letter to Ellen Degeneres. Haha

Even she would tell me to fuck off and go jump!

I'm gonna end all this nonsense by saying. Sometimes I don't know why we would rather live then die.

Thanks for reading!

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on June 25, 2011:

They may not be realistic where you are but they are realistic in Manhattan!

Thebignext on June 25, 2011:

Love these ideas! I've had to come up with money many times theres always a way you just have to find it. I would so shovel snow to make money! We don't get much where I'm from usually we just get sleet/ice, but this year we've actually seen a little more snow.

I thought this Hub was often funny and true. People do many of these things every day. If you ask the individuals who have done some things on the list, they will probably tell you that they never thought that they would be doing "it" (whatever it is).

People should use discretion when making quick cash. Quick cash usually involves doing a desparate act -- which can turn out bad, yet surprisingly may have turn out good. Anyway, there are some worthwhile suggestions here.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on December 20, 2010:

To each his own, you never know when things could take a turn for the worse.

Joe on December 20, 2010:

Great Ideas..... except for no.21 panhandeling for money is one of the worst things you can do, obviously not if you need it but i doubt anyone on here with a computer and internet NEEDS a quick 20 to 50 bucks. i mean this is what sterno bums do when they need money for they're wild turkey whiskey

e and s on December 11, 2010:

Hey don't get desperate. never let yourself get desperate! Shame and embarrasement doesn't goes away easily. Plan a head. I had hard times and what I learn is to plan ahead, save and save. I still needs practice but hey it's a lot better than asking or setting yourself up for grief!

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on July 20, 2010:

Jason: I rented out my home (I owned it) and many people can get roommates. If you are desperate for money I don't think that begging is illegal (although it's not something I would do). If it is illegal it sure isn't enforced because I see a lot of it here in New York City. I think if you are desperate, you might do anything. Apparently, you are blessed not to be in that situation. Regarding the taxi situation...do you realize that in certain states it's illegal to even have a garage sale...it's called a POLICE STATE! I don't know about the so called laws but I think it's ridiculous and it's the primary reason why we have no jobs in this country. All of the licenses and fees and hoops and one has to go through just to make a living is ridiculous. I will leave your comments up and anyone can read them but I am not going to take some of these suggestions down because the government has no right to enforce some of these laws, it's tyrannical.

Regarding renting out your apartment, I suppose that is illegal but people do it all the time...just take a look at Craigslist for subleases. It's another one of those unenforceable laws. Pretty soon "THEY" will make it illegal to breath!

jasoncox83 from Ohio on July 19, 2010:

Well to be quite honest only about half of your suggestions are even legit enough to make worth someone's time. The other half are horrid ideas like panhandling you are preying on people. That money could have went to someone who actually needs it, that has no home or food! Yes being a Taxi without the proper licence is illegal across all states. Begging is also illegal in many cities, which can be an arrestable offense like here within many cities in Ohio. Oh and before I forget renting out your apartment is a good way to lose your home....Check your contract I am sure as most landlords include a no subleasing clause in the fine print.

Overall horrid tips for about half, the other half are actual methods that could be used. I am not trying to be mean only bluntly honest.

You should remove the part about the taxi, and apartment before someone flags this for promoting illegal activities and or harmful suggestions which could lead to them losing their home.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on July 13, 2010:

I hope it works out for you, these are very difficult times...I know!

Amo1219 from Chicago on July 13, 2010:

Nice tips Brie... as far as payday loans are concerned, I don't necessarily think that all of them are scams, but I do think that they should be used sparingly (if at all) because the interest charged is higher than traditional loans. They can come in handy if used responsibly tho.

Great hub AND I'm glad that you included sitting outside of Starbucks asking for money, altho Starbucks has a pretty strict rule against it, but I don't know how much they enforce that across the country. They seem to in So Cal. BUT anyone who panhandles HAS A JOB. I think it is a legitimate job and having experienced panhandling as part of a leadership training program, IT IS HARD WORK. You deserve every penny or 100 dollar bill you get! And I know some folks also believe that you deserve every bit of money you do not get!! AND if you are going to work at this line of work, DO NOT LOOK DEPRESSED. People don't necessarily give money to folks who look depressed. Look LEGITIMATE. When you ask someone for money, SEE THEM IN YOUR HEAD AHEAD OF TIME, GIVING you money. When you see them in your head telling you to get lost and get a job, that is exactly what happens. When you see them giving you money, they do and in abundance. IT IS SALESPERSONSHIP! Be a good salesperson and people buy your product or service. Your service as a panhandler is supporting folks to give and be generous, to open up their hearts, to realize that you can't take it with you, that there is benefit in giving away part of what you have or all of what you have for that matter. As a panhandler, you support folks coming to the awareness that it is FREEING to let go of a few bucks or perhaps a lot of bucks. It is freeing in that you give up your judgments of what the person is going to use the money for. It is none of your business, the same way what anyone else uses their legitimately-earned dollars for is none of your business. So anywho, my comments for now. Again, great hub, even humorous. As I was getting ready to submit my comment, I noticed the last comment regarding posing as a nude model. I couldn't help but think of another interesting job, which I will not describe here, but in the porn industry, there is a person called the "fluffer." I have no idea how much it pays! Well, enuf!!

Well, it's done, I wouldn't do it but some might.

dxszzcylm from China on June 05, 2010:

Pose as a nude model is a bad idea as I think so!

Aww the price of money!

Betty Reid from Texas on June 05, 2010:

Funny hub! These are some really great ideas. I'm tempted to try them just for fun. I have sold (blood) plasma before - not too bad - $50 a week for two hours of discomfort and two hours of driving time. The only problem was the needle marks on my arm made look like a drug addict.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on June 02, 2010:

Yes, in NYC you never know what will avail itself to you at any given time! Glad you liked it.

Charlotte Gerber from upstate New York on June 02, 2010:

While I agree with most of your ideas (and I get that most of your offhand comments are tongue-in-cheek), I have to question the nude modeling idea. From my own experience (yes, I did it when I was much younger and fit), it wasn't something that I could just decide to do that day, and then get paid for it. It had to be set up with the photographer ahead of time for the shoot. So for that reason only, I think that the nude modeling gig wouldn't be something you could do on the fly and get paid for immediately. Of course, I didn't do it in NYC though... perhaps there are places you could do it there with no planning...?! Fun hub!

Thanks mquee!

When people are in dire need of cash, anything imaginable can happen. The list you have compiled are all legal activities and up to the individual. I especially like the one about waiting for the cableman, electrician, or plumber since they never come when they say they will. Very imaginative thinking and an entertaining read. Thanks.

Your welcome!

Thanks, I always enjoy sympathetic comments :)

Fierce Manson from Atlanta on May 30, 2010:

Brie some of the comments I felt were a little rough on you. I thought your quick ways to get money was very creative, and you did have some great ideas. For goodness sakes those who comments about payday loans or posing nude it is up to each individual to deceide for themselves which way works for them. Good job Brie! I will admit it in years pass I have had to use payday loans for quick cash. Did I like it? Of course not, but when between a rock and a hard place you have to do what you got to do.(and I know that was bad english, but was making a point.)

Some good ideas. Nowadays everyone is looking to make a buck or two in the quickest time possible. I don't like those PayDay Loan type companies either!...

Amazon's Mechanical Turk and Cloud Crowd are just random little tasks. You'd have to go to their sites and just check it out; it's easier than explaining it. I've done a lot with MTurk so I know it inside out, but these days I just do transcription and academic surveys for them because they pay the most.

Demand Studios has many jobs: writers, editors, filmmakers, QA, dupe checking, categorizing, etc. You have to take a test with DS and then get accepted which can take a couple of months. But it's a full-time income and I've never known anywhere that pays every Tuesday and Friday.

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on May 27, 2010:

What kind of work is it?

Kind Regards from Missouri Ozarks - Table Rock Lake on May 27, 2010:

Oh, and I got an email from Cloud Crowd today. They have an app on Facebook or you can go to their website. He doesn't even have a payout threshold. He'll pay you what he owes you within a day or two. Similar to the work found on Mechanical Turk.

And there's always freelance writing, but you might have to wait a few days. I work at Demand Studios and get paid twice a week, which is good enough for me. They have a dozen or so online jobs, not just writing. It took me over a year to track down how to make a living at home online that was legit, so I don't mind sharing the wealth of my efforts. Take care, everyone!

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on May 27, 2010:

Thanks Kind Regards, great additions!

Kind Regards from Missouri Ozarks - Table Rock Lake on May 26, 2010:

Brie Hoffman, Good hub. I enjoyed it. I can add two more to the list. One is Amazon's Mechanical Turk. Their payout minimum is low; I think it's $10. So it's possible to do that within the day. You just need a computer and Internet connection. Another one is day labor. All cities and medium-sized towns have day labor agencies. Go work in the local factory or office and get paid at the end of the day. Bonus if you have a car. Give other workers rides to the jobsite and you can make $3 or $4 a passenger. FYI: there's a distinction between day labor agencies and temporary agencies. Day labor pays at the end of the day and temporary agencies pay the following week. Kind Regards

half price books will not give you enough to ride the bus, would recommend anything with a upc on Amazon less fees than Ebay and quicker transactions, or homemade items on Etsy.com

Brie Hoffman (author) from Manhattan on May 02, 2010:

Well, some of my ideas I wouldn't do myself but you never know when you get desperate...well you might do them.

Sparhawke from Manchester on May 02, 2010:

Payday loans are almost certainly a scam, very cleverly contrived.

The shops are set up in the areas where they are most needed like near ports where they know that people are paid monthly by the Navy or similar so will be needing cash nearing the end, they then charge something like 20% average and one of the biggest in England even quotes the APR as something crazy like 1600%+ interest!!! (Someone else will have to run the numbers because I am useless at them lol)

They are nothing but legalised loansharks in my honest opinion, they set themselves up to be all friendly and caring and then take an arm and a leg over the next 10 years as you struggle to get yourself out of their clutches.

Remember people, if you borrow £200 on your £1000 cheque that means the following month you only have £800, meaning you will have to borrow the month later. And the month after that, and after that...

The cycle never ends.

Many towns now have credit unions where the people pay money into a bank and it can be loaned out to people to help them, they are far better than these sharks and vampires.

~~

By the way, begging is never good lol

I found myself without money while traveling and ended up in Tulieres Parc in Paris near the Louvre feeding the birds...in Winter.

It was cold but it brought in 10x as much as peoplesitting in gutters looking miserable and I have written a hub about it lol

Oh ok AdamTufford, I misunderstood. Thanks for clearing it up.

No, there was a comment left where Blake said to shut your mouth. And more or less called you an idiot. I guess I was commenting on their comment. He said it was constructive criticism, but it didn't seem very constructive. Your hub is good though. Sorry for the confusion.
