10 Ways to Make Real Money From Home

Going online and looking for ways to make money often turns up a flurry of different articles touting ways you can make a few bucks a month at best. This is incredibly annoying if you are looking for a way to make a significant income without leaving your house. That’s why I’ve compiled this list of 10 ways to make real money from home. Every single one of these options is a real opportunity to make money online consistently, month after month, instead of just a paltry sum.

In other words, this list does not include:

  • Rewards programs
  • Selling your personal belongings
  • Installing apps which make you a few cents
  • Taking surveys for next to nothing
  • Doing small menial tasks for a few cents a piece

Just keep in mind that some of these options take more time to start making serious income than others.

1. Freelance Writing for Blogs

I signed up with a company called Blogmutt and found that if I worked at it consistently (less than 10 hours a week), then I could make a couple hundred dollars a month. It’s a very simple system; you go on their website, find companies who are looking for articles with specific guidelines, and write an article for those companies.

There are multiple pay tiers, which go from not so great (8$ per article), to actually pretty good money (72$ per article). The higher-paying opportunities require you to have achieved a certain level in their system, and that takes quite a bit of time to get high enough to earn more than the minimum. But once you are in, it’s a good place to work.

Although, if you want to really make money doing this, you need to do a couple of things. First, you have to write better and longer than your competition. If the minimum for the article you have to write is 250 words, then you better be writing more like 400. Second, you either better know a lot about everything, or you have to get good at researching topics quickly. The more topics you can write about, the faster and more reliably you are going to find work you can do. And thirdly, you need to be able to write fast. If you can only manage 10 words per minute while typing, then you better get some more practice because it’s going to take you a long time to write enough articles to make anything respectable.

While this is one of the best ways to make real money from home, I still have to remind you not to get discouraged. The people buying your blog posts have their own individual tastes and requirements, so they don’t always jive with your unique style. I’ve had people reject my articles, while other people loved my writing and made me their preferred writer. So if you strike out a couple of times before one sells, then it’s no big deal.

If you want to get into blogging, then I recommend writing for one of these companies. It helps you to learn what are good practices for blogging.

2. Telecommuting

This is more than one job, I suppose, it’s just that few people realize that there are so many legitimate employment opportunities online. is a great website for finding work. I can’t give you specifics on what you’ll be doing, but it’s anything from social media manager to interpreters.

Keep in mind that these are real jobs with real companies, so you are going to have to go through a standard interview process, and they have requirements (often a college degree). The great part about this is that it is very much a normal job that you work at home. But the downside is you often have specific hours you have to work, deadlines to meet, all of the things that are associated with a normal job.

I’ve done this before, and I can say that to be successful with telecommuting jobs, you need to be extremely responsive. It’s more like being on call than it is being truly free. But I didn’t have to go to the office, so that’s a plus.

3. Affiliate Marketing

This is one of the most tried and true ways to make real money from home. If you can make a quality website, then companies like Google will pay you to advertise for them. Typically you don’t make a whole heap of cash off of these programs per view, so you are going to have to be getting some serious traffic in order to make this into a significant source of income. This takes somewhere around six months to two years, depending on how good you are with SEO tactics.

The best possible way to ensure success in this field is to make the best quality content and to keep making it consistently. On top of that, it has to be something which people are actually searching for online, or in other words choosing a niche, which actually makes money.

If you have the best possible article series about Celtic legends, then sure you may get all of the monthly traffic for that search result, but it’s also not going to be a whole lot. The secret is finding a niche that has high traffic and low competition, which of course, is something that most people looking to be successful online are doing, so it’s getting a little difficult, but I suppose it was never easy in the first place.

Another word of advice, the more direct your content is to what you are trying to make a commission off of, the more likely it is to sell. Therefore, product reviews are a great place to start, seeing as you are talking directly about the product that you are endorsing.

4. Creating and Selling Intellectual Properties

If you have the talent to write a book, song, or app, then you can make a lot of money online by setting it up with the correct distributor. I’ve been doing this for a couple of years now, and it really does work, but it takes a lot of know-how to get it really working well.

Creating quality content is only the first step in this endeavor, though the next part is where people usually mess it up, and that is marketing. So be prepared to spend more time promoting your content than it took to create it in the first place.

Don’t get sucked into the idea that you are going to become an overnight success, while it does happen, it’s extremely rare. Keep in mind that there are a great many famous authors who died long before their works ever became popular.

5. Selling Homemade Crafts on Etsy

If you are better at working with your hands, then you might consider making and selling items on Etsy. It's the marketplace for handmade goods, so craft items do really well there. You are, of course, going to have to handle shipping the items, but that can be sorted out easy enough.

Your real concern is going to be making a product that people are legitimately interested in buying. There's a line between making a product that's too easy (so people just make their own) and making a product that is so labor-intensive you aren't making any profit for the hours you put into it. Finding that balance is the key.

Also, while I still consider this one of the most legitimate ways to make real money from home, you are going to have to have somewhat of a marketing plan. Many Etsy stores don't get a lot of traffic, so do yourself a favor and get used to promoting your work on social media.

You'll also want to have a variety of products to sell. The more things in your personal shop, the more likely you are to attract new customers, so don't be afraid to branch out.

6. Become a Tutor

Did you do well in school? Then maybe you can become a tutor, you can even tutor kids online now. Of course, in order to do well at this job, you are going to have to have a thorough understanding of the field you are tutoring for, and on top of that, you need to be accessible to the students you are working with. This means synchronizing your schedule with them. It’s a wonderful opportunity that pays quite well for the amount of time that you put into it. You can easily make $20 per hour, but how many hours you get is a different story.

7. Start a Daycare

If you just love kids, then it’s not that difficult to start up a daycare. Of course, you have to be seen as somebody that the parents can trust, but that’s to be expected. Watching kids is one heck of a demanding job, though, so you really do need to be prepared to handle it. Plus, if it’s not already, you’re going to need to childproof your house.

As for getting clients, your first ones are typically going to be people that you know, that is until you can make enough money to start more serious marketing. Although if you can pull it off, this is one of the most rewarding ways to make real money from home.

8. Teach Online

Teaching is one of the noblest professions, and nowadays, it’s easier than ever to get started teaching online. Udemy is a website that allows you to create courses and sell them to prospective students. Those who are successful on the site recommend offering a class or two for free in order to drive traffic to the rest of your courses.

9. Reviewing Search Engine Results

Do you like browsing the internet all day? Well, who doesn’t? But what if you could make 15$ per hour doing it? That’s right—if you have good attention to detail, and reasonable writing skills, then you can work with Leapforce in order to make search engines a better resource. It’s not as glamorous as it sounds, though, as typically, you are going through set assignments to research things you may not even care about. Although for 15 dollars an hour, it’s still a pretty good deal.

It’s important to realize that people who do this don’t get a whole lot of working hours, usually only 10-20 per week. So it’s not going to be bringing in a full-time salary, but it’s great part-time work nonetheless. Also, you need to check your assignments regularly, as there are many times where you are just plain out of work for the day.

10. Work for a Call Center

The last one on this list is easily the most reliable of them all. Working for a call center used to mean you would have to leave the comfort of your own home, but things have changed quite a bit. Companies now realize that they can save quite a lot of money by not having a brick and mortar establishment, so offsite employees not only cost less but can afford to be paid more money, which results in better customer satisfaction overall.

The job is all about customer service, you are the face (or voice, I suppose) of the company which you are representing, and unfortunately, that means you are going to be exposed to a lot of unhappy people. It’s just the nature of the job. Still, with thick enough skin, it’s not a bad way to work full-time from home.

Keep in mind, though, that call volume is not always constant, so sometimes it can be hard to keep your hours up if the company you are working for pays by the minute.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to make real money from home, and if you are careful when you are searching for employment, then you should be able to spot a scam from a mile away. Just remember to look at the reviews of those who have worked there in the past. They’ll tell you the truth of the matter.

There's some good ideas there. I wouldn't mind making things and selling them on Etsy. I've never heard of that website before.
