Our Cakes By Carolyn
Classy and Perfect!
When planning a wedding, it's easy to get lost in the details. One of the easiest and funnest decisions to make should be the wedding cake. I, personally, got to make this fun decision twice, as my husband and I had two weddings (a civil ceremony at home and then a big church wedding a year later).
Wedding Cake #1
I found Carolyn's website and immediately fell in love with the photo of the cake on her home page. I called her right away and I knew that I needn't look for any other potential vendors for our cake. Since we didn't have a lot of time before the wedding, we corresponded via e-mail and telephone on the cake deisign. I told her my theme was Fall/Autumn colors, and that I would be using Terracotta roses for decoration. She suggested right away that a peach-colored accent on a white cake would look great with the roses. I agreed! Our civil wedding ceremony was being held on Thanksgiving Day, 2006. Carolyn was gracious enough to bake our cake the day before, and allowed me to pick it up from her house on Thanksgiving morning (now THAT'S Customer Service). My father was surprised at how heavy the cake was! It was only designed for 30 people, but Carolyn did not cheat us on the ingredients. The German chocolate with chocolate filling was dense, but not too sweet. It was perfect!
Wedding Cake #2
As soon as our Thanksgiving wedding was over, it was time to start planning our big church wedding. We picked a date and I booked Carolyn right away. Closer to the big day, my husband, my parents, and I went to Carolyn's home in Centreville to do a taste test and look at cake designs. Everything came together quickly, although our wedding color scheme changed a few weeks later. As you can see in the photos, the cake turned our wonderfully! Carolyn delivered the cake to our venue on the morning of the reception, and the florist was already there complete with roses and rose petals. Carolyn arranged the cake for presentation and also supplied the wait staff with a "to-go" box for the top layer of the cake. I had no worries at all! At the end of the party, I was quite surprised to get our top tier all packed up in the box and ready to take home and into the freezer. All our guests raved about the cake and kept taking pictures of it. Even the reception hall manager, who has seen countless weddings, was surprised to see a colored cake--she said that most couples usually have a white cake. We were the first one she'd seen that had it in the color that matches the bridesmaids' dresses and overall motif! The reception hall had green carpeting, so the light green and white color scheme blended all together perfectly. I should also mention that my brother-in-law is a world-class pastry chef. He had nothing but compliments to say about Carolyn's work. =)
On Thanksgiving Day 2007, my husband and I celebrated our 1-year anniversary by stuffing ourselves with the frozen, leftover cakes from both of our weddings. I thought it would be kind of disgusting to eat year-old cakes, but it wasn't! They were still yummy. When we were full, it was time to say goodbye and toss them into the trash. I smiled as I remembered all the good times we had during our wedding celebrations, and Carolyn definitely did an amazing job that contributed to our experience.
