Use Red Worm Castings and Make Your Neighbor Green with Envy

Red worm composting is a very favorable organic gardening activity for those who want to have home garden farms. The good thing about worm composting in compost bins is that not only does it serve as a constant source of rich organic fertilizer it also helps the environment get healthy by doing so. This is so evident and factual that some states in Western counties have made ways to propagate this truth.

Red worm composting drive

The city of Vancouver in Canada is continuously printing and reproducing copies of the Urban Cultural Notes, a document which discusses urban farming, and it also supplies its residents with worm-compost bins and hotlines so that they could discover where to buy the best worms. The state of California has designed an animated, interactive game which educates its players of the basics of vermicomposting and its numerous benefits; the name of the game is “The Adventures of Vermi the Worm.” Spokane, Washington has a different approach. It promotes worm composting by posting information about worm composting to encourage its residents to have a go at it. These are very convincing measures assuring us that worm composting is a very ecological home gardening practice. But how exactly does it help the environment?

Vermicomposting gives Mother Nature a helping hand

Red worm composting is a very good process of eliminating organic material. Because the red worms digest and process all the organic material of your household (such as kitchen wastes, grass clippings, fruit and vegetable peelings) all the end products are environment friendly and ecologically safe. Red worm composting also requires little use of water because although worms want to be moist and wet in their little, snug homes it does not necessarily mean that you have to water their homes often. Sometimes if the worms find the bin too dry for their taste, a simple solution will suffice. If the bin is too dry, adding water is not needed. Adding slightly moist bedding or foods will do the trick.

Plants and composting worms – two great partners

The biggest contribution of red worm composting is that it truly invigorates and strengthens our plants. Red worms are such great partners for plants because of the waste products they produce. By consuming organic material, red wiggler worms produce red worm castings which are excellent organic fertilizers for your home garden plants. The good thing about this type of fertilizer is that it can be spread evenly and sparingly amongst your home garden plants, taking away the risk of burning or shocking the roots of the plants.

Another aspect that makes red worm waste products so valuable to plants is that it can also serve as soil conditioner for lawns. Again, if used wisely and sparingly, this mixture can make your lawn a whole lot greener than your neighbor’s making them green with envy.

Thank you for this very informative hub about vermicomposting. I agree that Red Wigglers is the most effective type of composting worms. They compost faster than other types of worms and they can live in small containers like worm bins.

I just loove worm tea - they are just like miracle juice for my plants!
