Prepper's Diary- My Composting Success

The New Age is here. Prepare for it. It's happening whether you like it or not.

First off, I am a new gardener and I have no idea if I am doing anything right. I am just trying out new things, and seeing what happens.

I started my cold composting in a couple of different planter boxes last year.

I just layered my browns (the carbons: cardboard, sawdust, brown leaves) and the greens (nitrogens: grass clippings, kitchen scraps) on top of the crappy soil that was in the boxes.

Then I didn't do anything. I just checked the boxes yesterday. The soil was a nice dark color, there were worms, all seems to be going well. I guess. I don't really know. I will just plant some things and see how it goes.

I am reading gardening websites and magazines, hoping that I will learn something, and figure out how to do things right.

I plan to plant some ginger, onions, and peppers. I will be growing some herbs on my window sill. This is the start of my garden. I hope it goes well.

I added more sawdust to the soil yesterday since I had some in my yard near the woodpile. I needed somewhere to put it all because it looked bad messing up the yard.

I am going to start a small plot on the ground in the backyard today. About five by five feet. Hopefully, it will be ready by next year. I'm not sure what I want to try to grow there yet. Maybe some broccoli and lettuce.

Then I have two barrels in the front yard as shown in the picture. As you can tell the soil is awful. I will probably start those soon as well.

I promise to take the cat out first.
