Latest Trends: Under Counter Refrigerator

Overview of under counter refrigerators

Your refrigerator is probably the most used appliance in your home. Think about it – it’s in use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s always on duty, storing your food safely and keeping your beverages chilled. Unfortunately, these large appliances take up a lot of space and are often in the way. Thanks to new technology, however, it doesn’t have to be this way. A brand new under counter refrigerator is a great way to get cooling space in an unobtrusive manner.

Why an under counter refrigerator?

Under counter refrigerators fit snugly under your countertop. The door-type under counter fridges are like smaller versions of typical refrigerators, with glass shelves in the box and storage space in the door. This type of under the counter refrigerator usually comes in widths of 15, 20, and 24 inches.

Another type of under counter fridge that’s enjoying popularity is the under counter drawer refrigerator. This might include one drawer or two drawers that slide out, making refrigerated items super accessible, even for small children. Most under counter refrigerator drawers come in either a 24-inch or a 27-inch size. With the two-drawer unit, each drawer can be kept at a different temperature to suit your specific needs.

An exciting form of the under the counter appliances is the under counter wine refrigerator. These are specifically designed to keep your favorite bottles of vino at the perfect temperature for storing and serving.

These refrigerators can fit perfectly into any design, even if you have only a limited amount of space. If you’re already using a larger standard refrigerator for the bulk of your food storage, the under counter refrigerators can supply additional refrigeration and are especially useful as part of your meal-prep areas and at times when you have guests.

Another option is the under counter refrigerator freezer. These units provide cooling space and freezer space. An undercounter refrigerator freezer makes a great addition to any kitchen. Kids will have easy access to snacks and beverages from the fridge, as well as frozen treats from the freezer.

Styles and finishes available

Under counter refrigerators and under counter refrigerator freezers come in several styles and finishes. Stainless steel is popular, and other colors, including some new ones like claret and blue, are also available. Some models come with chic clear glass doors, too. If you have a fully integrated kitchen, you can have the drawer fronts or door fronts of your under counter fridge custom designed to perfectly match your existing cabinetry, virtually hiding the appliances.

The versatility of an under the counter refrigerator

An under the counter refrigerator can be placed in practically any room in the house – not just in the kitchen. They can become unobtrusive additions to in-home bars, family rooms, basements, master bedrooms, or master baths. Any room with a counter or cabinet can house an under counter refrigerator or an under counter refrigerator freezer with ease, and you and the rest of your family will love the added convenience these appliances offer!

Thank you for this interesting information. Cool for a small area.

Audrey Kirchner from Washington on March 02, 2010:

OMG - what will they think of next - but that is SO cool! Except I have a feeling that I would really have a problem finding Bob wandering around the kitchen going 'where the hell is the refrigerator?' and then him trying to stick a milk carton in the dishwasher or something! Great information and he will not believe this!
