Sometimes life gets in the way and you just don't have time to clean your house.
What you can find when you open your front door could be overwhelming, embarrassing and downright depressing.
You don't have to wait for spring to do spring cleaning. Start doing a clean sweep now with these cleaning tips.
Take it from me! We are a family of four which includes my husband and I, my Kindergartner and Preschooler, a very large dog and a cat. I am a stay-at-home mom and the cleaning lady!

Use Containers To Organize Things!
Step 1: Organize
Grab 3 bags or bins, whatever you have on hand. Designate the first bag for trash, the second bag for donations and the third bag for items that belong in other rooms.
If the room is too overwhelming, start small. Find a desktop or tabletop and start there. When you get to the floor, do a square foot at a time. If it doesn't belong in the room, put it in one of your designated bags.
Once you have everything picked up and the room is decluttered, you can start working on the bags. The the trash bag in the garbage. Put the donation bag in the trunk of your car and drop those of the next time you pass a donation center. If you would like to try to make money off of things in the donation bag, put them up for sale on Craigslist, eBay or have a garage sale and then whatever does not sell, you can donate.
Bring the "other room" bag to each of your rooms and drop the items off in the rooms that they belong in. Remember not to create more clutter while dropping the items off in their designated rooms.
Step 2: Clean Rooms
Bring out all of your cleaning supplies because we are going to make a clean sweep! Start at the top of the room and work your way down. Dust shelves, lamps, ceiling fans, etc with a microfiber cloth or a feather duster.
Clean any marks on the walls. I have found that the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works great at getting rid of any dirt on the walls. You can find them at most grocery stores in the cleaning supply aisle.
Clean the windows. Windex works great, but if you would like to use a natural, homemade glass cleaner, spray vinegar on the window and wipe with crumpled newspaper. It works just as well and it is free of chemicals! Use furniture polish, like Pledge, on all of your furniture.
Vacuum the floors. If you would like a fresh scent in your room, you could sprinkle baking powder or a carpet powder on your carpet and let it sit for 15 minutes or so before vacuuming.

Keep It Clean and Organized
You did it! The room is clean! Pat yourself on the back. You did a great job! Now, you just have to keep it that way.
If you still have things in the room that you want to keep, buy or make an organizer to put those things in.
If you see something that does not belong in the room, pick it up and move it to where it belongs when you leave the room. If you see a small mess, clean it up quickly, otherwise, it will turn into an avalanche.
Remember the saying "A place for everything and everything in it's place". Now that the room is clean, it will be easier to maintain order.

Since my kids were little, I've always done what we call a "5 minute tidy" which is exactly what it sounds like. I usually set a timer and we all tidy up the house as much as we can in 5 minutes. This usually motivates the kids and helps me to move more quickly and get things done.

So true, get organized and spring into action. Organizing a clean up makes the task less daunting. Awesome advice. I love the idea of taking a square foot approach. It always looks worse than it really is.
