Gardens in the Mediterranean take advantage of the beautiful porcelain tiles with vibrant blues or earth tones. These designs are never identical and always take the mind and soul to a different place.
Color is sometimes hard to add in the garden scape. The Mediterranean design has perfected the addition of color to the garden. Come sit a spell in several magical places, see the beautiful courtyards with terracotta patio tile and colorful walls that house some of the world most beautiful water fountains.
One of the great items of the water fountain, it can be a small fountain and still make a big impact. Many of us are struggling for space and yet there is a water fountain ideal for every space. Yes, it would be nice to have the grounds for a covered courtyard and a gigantic water fountain and we will see several of these full room size fountains but take a special look at the smaller fountains.
Whatever the size of your choice, whatever decoration you prefer from angel to lion, there is a water fountain that is perfect for your own garden space.
Intricate Tile Design in Mediterranean Style
Endless Variety of Tile Options - From Masterful to Magical
The one item that is overwhelming in starting the research for the perfect Mediterranean garden, is the myriad of tile design options.
Remember the Mediterranean style influences has been in existence for hundreds of years. The craftsmanship and artistry is masterful.
Visiting art museums is a passion of mine and for many years, I was privileged to be a board member on a prestigious artboard. Yet not all art is in sculpture or on paper, the tiles of the Mediterranean are in many cases beyond masterful, they are magical and can transcend your very soul.

Water Fountains are Magical
Water fountains are magical and can transform both your garden and your very soul. Our writings and philosophy books are filled with references to the fountain. For you see, it the fountain that is the source of joy and can be brim over.
Whether your fountain is in a courtyard, a walled garden, small or large, the fountain will become your focal point for meditation and a source for serenity.
Long Love Affair with Water Fountains
Water fountains have existed in civilization since the ancient Grecian culture. And yet, sadly here in the United States, very few gardens include this feature. The visuals can be stunning and yet the real enjoyment is the smell and the sound. The sound of the fountain in today's terms would signify "white noise" a noise that provides a blank canvass for reflection and perhaps meditation.
Have Seen Thee
The hours I spend with you I look upon as sort of a perfumed garden, a dim twilight, and a fountain singing to it. You and you alone make me feel that I am alive. Other men it is said have seen angels, but I have seen thee and thou art enough.
George Edward Moore
Meditation is the dissolution of thoughts in Eternal awareness or Pure consciousness without objectification, knowing without thinking, merging finitude in infinity.
Attitude of Silence
In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness.
You must intensify and render continuous by repeatedly presenting with suggestive ideas and mental pictures of the feast of good things, and the flowing fountain, which awaits the successful achievement or attainment of the desires.
Claude M. Bristol
Have Fun with the Mediterranean Tile
The porcelain tile for the walls or the terracotta tile for the patio are only limited by your imagination. Find a design that fits your personality. If you enjoy fun and the tropics, go with that style. The tropical color tile on this outdoor patio reminds me more of the Caribbean than the classic tones of the Mediterranean. The only rule you must follow when designing your garden with a Mediterranean water fountain, is it must suit your tastes and your personality. Do choose the water fountain, the porcelain and terracotta tiles that speaks to you.
A word of caution on terracotta tiles, I had a huge front patio with terracotta and in the Midwest with the ice and snow, the the stairs became a maintenance nightmare. If you must do allot of shoveling on those stairs, I would consider the plain cement and invest in the tiles elsewhere where the maintenance would not be as demanding.

Do your homework and design your space carefully. This is a space for family fun, entertainment and meditation. And remember your youth is in your mind. A fountain will add serenity to your hectic and demanding lifestyle.
Here is a thought that I must leave for you to ponder that eloquently summarizes my personal views on the water fountain:

Looking for fountains
Ken Kline (author) from Chicago, Illinois on October 27, 2016:
I am so happy you stopped by. What a wonderful site! We are in the market for an indoor fountain but have decided since the range of outdoor is so large (sorry for the pun) that the large outdoor fountain is where we want to start shopping.
Once installed, will add a photo here or better yet - add a hub about using the outdoor fountain inside in our home. The limestone flooring is purchased and the carpenter is finishing up that area.
What additional tidbit, the area in our home where this fountain will go I am told by feng shui experts is the wealth area of the home and a water feature will attract the wealth chi. So the fountain in the home has specific purposes in feng shui which surprised but given the importance of water in our lives, the elements celebrated in feng shui it should not have surprised me.

I always enjoy hearing from you - thank yo so much. I love the blue, it is calming and motivational all at the same time. No wonder God made the sky so blue! I hope to have a small portion of my garden in this vibrant blue one day. Project number 252!
