  • The fleshy, tube like roots are about 5-10 cm long.
  • Length of the long narrow leaves of spider plant reaches to about 20-45cm and their width is about 6-25 milometers.

VARIABLE TRAITS

The qualitative spider plant traits include growth habit, the color of their flower (purple, pink, white) stem color and hair, petiole color and hair, and also leaf color. These traits have shown no concern with the seasonal changes. Number of primary branches and plant height have contributed in increase in leaf count. Spider plant breeding programs can be generated by the spider plant morphological structure which will play a huge role in the development of genetic and genomic resources for the breeding programs.

MODE OF PROPAGATION

a. LAYERING

Spider plant can be rooted in water or directly in soil as well. The propagation of this plant is easy and not complicated enough as it involves planting the small leaves, spiderette, of the adult spider plant in pot that is filled with the potting mix. The potting mix should be of light weight. The presence of drainage holes in the bottom is must for the proper propagation of your plant. until the spiderette takes its own roots, you can leave it attached with the parent spider plant. Once the roots are out separate your baby spider plant and set it in a new pot.

b. SOIL

An easier method of growing a spider plant is through soil. Cut a small plantlet having lots of roots at its base from the adult spider plant. Dip the plantlet in water then in a rooting hormone. Use a commercial potting soil and plant your plantlet in it and make sure the soil stays moist until growth appears.

c. WATER

Cut a plantlet from your adult Spider pant make sure the plantlet has lots of roots. Then place the plantlet roots in a container containing fresh water. Leave it there until new roots arise. Then place the plantlet in a pot containing fresh soil and keep the soil moist in the start.

d. FERTILIZER

You can also use fertilizers for the growth of Spider plant. Use it by reading the label on the packet. Repeat this after every week in spring or summer when the plant is actively growing.
