She Sheds - Garden Shed Ideas with Vintage Details - Story Book Design Ideas

Just as they say you cannot judge a book by its cover, so too, it is true you cannot judge a shed by its exterior but it will give you a great start on the character of the gardener who built that shed. A shed does not have to be purely utilitarian. Yes, the interior must be well designed with ease of access to the fertilizer, towels, sprinklers and don't forget to add the potting soil to the mix! Pun in tended - sorry I just couldn't resist.

Where to put that tool rack? Outside of the garage and in the garden shed? What should the shed look like? A plastic thing? A tin thing? Or a thing of beauty? The choice but of course is obvious, what respectable gardener would allow a shabby pre fabricated shack to destroy the ambiance of the finely crafted garden?

To customize your garden shed, is perhaps even more of a luxury than the garage. For you see, unlike garages that can look great inside, the outside of the garden shed is paramount to the overall beauty of the garden.

I challenge my fellow gardener friends to share their thoughts on the pivotal nature of the design of the garden shed.

The inner beauty of the shed is the convenience of storing things properly and away from the automobiles.

The exterior beauty of the garden shed can be anything you that delights you. From a shed that exudes Victorian architecture to a shed with a sun filled skylight to sheds with fine architectural details such as the crowning joy of a cupola to windows adorned with mullions and beyond.

Garage Should Be For Cars Only

There is a purpose and reason for the garage and it should be reserved for cars only. Garden tools, lawnmowers, pesticides belong in the garden shed.

Yet a garden shed shouldn't have to look like the garden sheds from the blue light special. Sheds can incorporate the same architectural elements that we love with our homes.

Personal She Shed Update from My Wife

"As an avid gardener, even today I dream of a 'she shed'. I must not be alone because even the world of insurance commercials recognizes the existence of a 'she shed'. At the risk of being trite, yes, it is a 'thing'.

My personal dream is to have a tool shed and potting shed. The potting shed would be the 'she shed' complete with a dry sink for potting plants where dirt could slip through and readily be 'caught' by a drawer.

The tool shed would have the wheelbarrow, lawnmower and a workbench for sanding/painting.

And my ultimate dream for the potting shed is a tiny bench, an electrical outlet in case it is cold and I wish to stay a moment or two and not freeze. And drum roll please...a marble floor. YES! I did say a marble floor.

Ironically, the only pieces I have for this dream potting shed, now called a 'she shed' is the sink and the marble floor - all courtesy of my favorite store - Habitat for Humanity.

The marble floor is striking - bright, bright pink. I will have to take a photo of the remnant marble floor. The marble is unbelievable. Growing up with everything pink, when I first saw the marble I was aghast. Who would want that! Then I looked closer and the bright pink reminded me of the magenta peony that I dearly love and then it hit me - what a marvelous floor this would might in my dream 'potting shed'.

Oh, that is not all - in my dreams behind the sink I would also have a tile back splash of flowers and some LED lights to help extend after dusk.

A gal can dream can't she? I will keep you posted. Thanks for listening to my garden wishes!"

Some of these look great. I recently mad a novelty shed, but now I'm thinking of making one like you've written about here.
