After moving, my family discovered that there seemed to be a shortage of fridges and freezers. I bought the only one I could find, which fits perfectly under the cabinets that are spaced to fit a small fridge. While it seemed like it would work, we've discovered that there is no room for ice cube trays. The littlest loves ice. She wants to make slushies. Then, we welcomed the Costway Mini Countertop Ice Maker into the kitchen, and it's been a game-changer!
What is a Counter Top Ice Maker?
A counter top ice maker is also known as a portable ice maker. These compact size ice makers are designed to produce a small amount of ice. Thanks to their compact design, they take up significantly less space on the counter when compared to full-size ice makers, which made it perfect for me because my Ninja Foodi takes up a significant portion of my counter space.
How Does the Costway Countertop Ice Maker Work?
To use this powerful counter top ice maker, you simply take your Costway portable ice maker machine out of the package, remove all of the little pieces of tape, and set it on your counter. Keep in mind that you will have to check for pieces of tape on all of the moving parts. Costway does an exceptional job packing these so they don't get damaged during the shipping process.
The instructions say to wait for an hour before plugging it in to give the refrigerant in the machine time to settle. I waited four hours to be on the safe side.
Make sure that you take the time to read the instructions for your Costway portable ice maker machine. There are a few key things that owners need to know. For example, you are not supposed to use anything except for water in your Costway counter top ice maker machines. The plug needs to be plugged into a grounded outlet that allows three-prong outlets, not a power strip or extension cord. The instructions also include a handy troubleshooting guide.
Then, simply fill the reservoir designed to be a water tank with water to the fill line, hit the power button, and watch it make adorable ice cubes.
There were quite a few features that I just loved about the countertop Costway mini ice maker. In my house, we needed something that was easy to use and came with everything we needed. That's what we got with the Costway ice maker.
Ice Scoop Included
While browsing through portable ice makers, I couldn't help but notice that some do not come with an ice scoop for the little basket of ice. I'd rather have one that comes with a matching scoop.
LED Control Panel Tells You Everything You Need to Know
The light display makes using the Costway mini countertop ice maker a breeze. A light lights up to let you know when it's low on water, when the ice bucket is full, etc. All you have to do to see what's going on with your ice maker is glance across the kitchen.
You can also use this simple control panel to select ice size options. Cube size can be either small or large. Compact size ice is ideal for chewing on ice, but larger ice cubes are best for drinks.
Will Run For Hours
This ice maker doesn't shut off as soon as the basket is full. If the ice melts, the excess water will leak down into the reservoir of water for a continuous water supply to make new ice cubes. It makes it extremely convenient when you happen to have a little one that has decided her favorite way to stay hydrated is to suck on ice cubes.
Ice Basket Holds 1.5 Pounds of Ice
Almost two pounds of ice is more than enough for 4-5 eight-ounce drinking glasses full of ice. For my little household of three, that's perfect to meet our daily ice requirements.
Plenty of Colors to Choose From
Black complements my kitchen well, but you can also pick up a Costway stainless steel ice maker, a red one, or even a blue one to make sure that your ice maker complements your kitchen perfectly.
There were quite a few benefits to this portable ice maker from Costway that I really appreciated. Check them out to decide if it's as perfect for your family as it is mine.
The small size makes it ideal for anyone that doesn't have a lot of counter space available. It's only fourteen inches tall, and approximately nine inches wide. The depth is about thirteen inches. It's so itty bitty that it's hard to believe it makes ice in under ten minutes!
Not only is it small, but it's easy to carry because it only weighs twenty-six pounds. I'm far from strong and had no issues taking this out of the box to carry it into the kitchen without help.
Easy to Use
This ice maker is so easy to use that my eight-year-old has already mastered how to use it. Please note that children are supposed to be supervised while using any kitchen appliance, for safety reasons.
The ice maker indicators on the Costway ice maker machine tell you everything that you need to know! Ice maker indicators let you know when your Costway ice maker machine needs more water, is done filling up the basket, or which size ice cube you have selected.
Long Power Cord Length
Another thing I adore about Costway ice maker machines is that the power cord is easily almost two feet long. I don't have a grounding outlet on the counter where I wanted to put the portable ice maker, but, thanks to the long power cord, that wasn't a problem.
Fast Ice Production
It makes nine chewable bullet-shaped ice cubes in under ten minutes. At first, I found this statement hard to believe. I stood in the kitchen and watched the ice maker produce ice while glancing at the clock on my phone. Sure enough, it does make ice in under ten minutes!
It takes a bit longer to fill up the entire ice basket because it only makes nine cubes per batch, but an indicator light will come on when the portable ice maker machine is done.
The Only Downside to Countertop Ice Makers
There is one downside to every portable ice maker machine, including the Costway ice maker machine. It seems like common sense, but I didn't realize it until I started using the ice maker: they don't keep ice frozen. Obviously, this is an ice maker and not a freezer.
With that being said, the ice maker does seem to be made of thick material that helps insulate the ice. My little basket of ice was frozen for over four hours. Keep in mind that this time might vary based on the temperature in your house.
How long does it take for the Costway ice maker machine to make ice?
In under ten minutes, you will be able to enjoy nine ice cubes, making these little ice maker machines perfect if you need ice on demand. To fill up the removable basket, it will take a little longer. It produces nine ice cubes at a time, scoops them into the removable ice basket, and then repeats the process until the basket is full.
How long does ice stay frozen in an ice maker?
Ice can stay frozen in an ice maker for 4-5 hours in most cases, but it does depend on the temperature of the house. My house stays cooler than most without the air conditioning on. If you blast the central air, the ice will stay frozen for a longer period of time than mine does.
Can you leave an ice maker running all the time?
Yes, you can. These little ice makers are designed to keep going. The water reservoir is conveniently placed under the basket of ice so that as soon as it melts, it can be refrozen to make more ice, guaranteeing that you always have fresh ice. After so long, or once the basket is full, most counter op ice makers stop running. You'll have to make sure that it restarts when you empty the basket.
Who is This Mini Ice Maker For?
The Costway mini portable ice maker is ideal for small families that need ice. If you don't have a fridge with an ice maker and limited freezer space, it's a great idea. Likewise, if you're going through ice faster than you can freeze it in a traditional freezer, you'll love having a mini ice maker on hand! The self cleaning function makes it great for moms that are always pressed for time, like me.
You can pick one up at Costway!
