The Ten Best Plant-Based and Natural Cleaning Products
Cleaning Is Essential
Cleaning is an essential routine for me. My husband used to say that I was compulsive about cleaning. Guess what? I was fine with it. My motto is keeping your house clean is important because you'll get sick less frequently. Dirt, dust, and allergens build up especially, in carpets, beds, and upholstery over time. Not to mention if you have pets inside. Therefore, if you want to keep yourself and your family healthy, cleaning regularly is a must!
Plant-based Product
I determined to start using plant-based and natural products, particularly for cleaning products around my house. Ultimately, I want to have a better lifestyle without having used too many chemical products that could harm my body and also be bad for the environment. A few years ago, before turning to plant-based cleaning products, I was an avid user of many popular commercial cleaning brands. However, I found that at times they have given me unpleasantness and bothered my skin. Apart from the dry weather, presumably caused by the chemical contained in the products.
Time for A Change
I am an avid user of these ten products and I'm loving the result. They are powered and naturally made by plants, non-toxic, and gentle for house care. I prefer knowing that these cleaning products clean your home naturally, without the unpleasant chemical residue that can harm your family and your pets.
1. Laundry Detergent
By far, Seventh Generation is my favorite plant-based brand. At times, I have developed a skin sensitivity towards cleaning products at my house. So, the first thing I change is the laundry detergent. I love Seventh Generation laundry detergent a lot so, I usually bought one with the scent and one that is clear and free that is made for sensitive skin. It is 0% from synthetic fragrances, dyes, artificial brighteners. The detergent is safe to use for all water temperatures, cold or hot. By the way, it's a certified Biobased Product by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
2. All-Purpose Cleaner
All-purpose cleaner is an essential product to have in my house. I lost count of how many bottles I have used over the years to clean the kitchen counter, dining table, coffee table, and et cetra. One of the reasons why I wanted to change after I noticed the usual all-purpose cleaner has a powerful chemical smell. However, I'm proud to say that Method all-purpose cleaner is one of the first plant-based products I have purchased since last year. My favorite is the honey crisp apple smell. I use it after I finished cooking in the kitchen and every morning to wipe the counter and the coffee table. The best thing is it still leaves a fresh scent smell!
3. Dish Soap
Sometimes, I admit I prefer a smell remains on the plates, cups, pans, and other kitchen utensils after I did dishes. However, I noticed some of the products that I have used leaving my hand very dry afterward. Other than the laundry detergent, Seventh Generation also has liquid hand dish soap as one of their plant-based products. Having used it recently, I really like it! The one that I purchased is free and clear from any fragrances, dyes, phosphates, or triclosan. It's also a dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic formula made for sensitive skin.
4. Fabric Softener
I am a big fan of fabric softener. I usually will load the fabric softener (liquid or booster beads) in the washing machine every time I do laundry. Since I have changed the laundry detergent to a plant-based, I decided to ditch the old fabric softener. Mrs. Meyer's fabric softener is one of the best you can find at the store. I love how the liquid fabric softener adds freshness while reducing static from clothes. It is made from plant-derived softening ingredients essential oils and it's a certified Biobased Product by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
5. Fabric Refresher
As much as I love the fabric softener, I love fabric refresher. I use it to spray the jackets that I have worn for a few hours, for example, after I came back from the grocery store. Biokleen is my favorite plant-based fabric refresher. The best thing about fabric refresher, you can use it on water-safe fabrics such as sofas, couches, curtains, sports bags, and pet areas. However, I love the product as it doesn't irritate my skin. One of my favorite smells from Biokleen fabric softener is thyme and lemon. It's natural eliminates odors that trapped in the fabrics and leaves an amazing smell.
6. Fresh Produce Liquid Soap
Since we were hit with the Covid-19, I make sure to wash every fresh produce that I bought from the store before putting them in the fridge. One of my favorite plant-based products that I can find at the store is Ecos. It is specifically made for washing fruits and vegetables. It cleans the fresh produce thoroughly by spraying directly onto produce and wash and wipe. For leafy greens, it is best to soak (for 2-3 minutes) in a bowl filled with water. Nothing beats feeling good with food that you bought from the store knowing they are clean from the unwanted dirt or soils.
7. Disinfecting Wipes
One of my essential cleaning items are disinfecting wipes. It's very convenient to have plant-based disinfecting wipes knowing they are gentle and kind to my hands. These wipes are suitable for use on all hard, nonporous surfaces where bacteria or unpleasant odors are a concern such as countertops, food preparation surfaces, floors, appliances, garbage cans, changing tables, high chairs, cribs, children’s toys, toilet seats, doorknobs, desks, and pet habitats.
8. Hand Wash
Hand soap is crucial these days. One of my favorite plant-based brands is Method. They carried different types of plant-based cleaning products with a variety of scents. That's why I love it. For example, this plant-based hand soap has an orange ginger scent. It leaves hands feeling soft, clean, and smells good after washing.
9. Wood Cleaner
I've been looking for a plant-based wood cleaner for a long time. Finally, I've found the one that I like the most. This wood cleaner from Seventh Generation (also one of my favorite brands) has the most effective and safest way to clean the wood in your home without unleashing harsh chemicals that could be harmful to your family. It is made with essential oils and botanical ingredients and is safe for treated wood and hard, non-porous surfaces.
10. Dish Cleaning
Most sponges are made of plastic and full of dyes and chemicals. These walnut sponge and bamboo scrubbers are currently my favorites for cleaning dishes in my kitchen.

Hi Laynie.
Thanks for sharing your story. I have never used Mrs. Meyer's other than their hand sanitizer spray, (which I really love). I will pay more attention to the product as I'm looking forward to restocking supplies. I love the plant-based product and will stick to it.

I especially love Meyer's! The scents take me outside into nature; I use it for dish soap and the concentrate for dilute surface cleaner. I love your photos as well.
