50 Gift Ideas for Gardeners

Sometimes we come across those people who are hard to buy presents for. I always find myself struggling to find a gift for at least a few people every Christmas season and all the time on birthdays. I have spent a lot of time trying to brainstorm ideas for gifts for lots of my friends and family.

If you are trying to find the perfect gift for someone in your life that you know loves to garden, I’ve done the brainstorming for you. Here is a list of present ideas for that special someone who likes to spend time outside digging in the dirt. Even if the person you are shopping for is not a die-hard gardener, if they own a home or have a lawn to upkeep, these will still make good gifts and will likely be useful to them.

Plants and Seeds

Gardening is a very fulfilling habit, but it can become expensive. Even the cost of seeds can add up. Gardeners will appreciate any kind of plant or seed that will complement their garden. Just make sure that the plant you are getting them fits in with the theme of their garden, if they have one. The gift recipient will be especially grateful if the plant or seed comes from your own garden.

  1. New perennial plants
  2. Part of a perennial plant you divided from one of your own
  3. Rooted cuttings
  4. Fall bulbs
  5. Summer bulbs
  6. Annual seeds
  7. Rooting hormone for propagating their own cuttings
  8. A bin or jar of your own compost from home

Gardening Accessories and Tools

A lot of the maintenance tasks associated with gardening can be very tedious if you don’t have the right tools. Sometimes a simple gift of one of these gardening accessories can make all the difference between a grueling and an enjoyable experience. I myself was gifted a good watering can, which made watering my smaller plants a much easier job, as I no longer had to make so many trips back and forth to get more water.

  1. Gardening Gloves
  2. A watering can
  3. Pruning shears
  4. A Sun hat
  5. Gardening knee pads
  6. A mini greenhouse
  7. A propagation Kit
  8. Heating mats (for seedlings started indoors)
  9. A ceiling light fixture (for indoor gardens or for seedlings)
  10. A scooting garden seat
  11. An expandable hose
  12. A Bonsai kit
  13. Seeding tape
  14. Seeding disks
  15. Garden netting
  16. Bell cloches (small domes to protect young plants outdoors)
  17. A soil pH tester
  18. A soil thermometer
Mini greenhouses or cold frames make great gifts for gardeners who want to continue their hobby, even throughout the off-season.

The possibilities are endless, but this should serve as a good starting point. As a gardener, these are all things that I would love to receive, and I know they would be well received by others who share this wonderful hobby. Many of these gardener gift ideas would be great for someone who is considering gardening but has little experience or tools. Some also make good gifts for kids who are old enough to take care of a plant.

A lot of these items can be found online at gardening websites, or in person at garden stores, nurseries, or home improvement stores. Some of these are seasonal items that can be more easily found during the growing season, while others should be found easily all year long.

Be creative! Combine a few of these gardening gifts together in a gift basket. Use seeds or bulbs as stocking stuffers or inside a greeting card (depending on the time of year).
