10 Affordable DIY Toddler Beds

I Have To Pick Just One

Recently our family moved into a house twice as big as our last house. It was long overdue, and a blessing. Our new house is like a blank canvas for me and so I've been on this obsessive mission to find neat DIY projects to take on for each of the rooms. My favorite part of the house is our huge back porch. In my searching however, I came upon some really neat looking toddler beds (or daybeds that can be transformed into a toddler bed) and each of them is a DIY. I picked my favorite ones to share with you. So here are 10 DIY Toddler Beds I Would Like To Make.

Reading Chair Made From Wooden Pallets

The first one I'm sharing was the bed that set off my whole search. I know this is actually a reading corner, but I really love it and am seriously trying to figure out a way to make it a little bigger to work as a toddler bed. You can see the great tutorial on how to make this adorable book nook over at KoJo Designs. Even if I can't make it as a bed, I'm finding a corner somewhere in my house to make this for!

DIY Upholstered Toddler Bed

This is one of the most simple to make From what I saw in the tutorial on this DIY Upholstered Toddler Bed over at Design Sponge. It's not only simple to make, but is so cute. I of course would have this decked out in little girls colors. This gal was able to make not just 1 but 2 toddler beds with just $75. I think one that is low to the ground like this one would be great for Kynlea seeing how she's rolled out of her bed already twice this week..........

DIY Wooden Pallet Toddler Bed

The Reading Corner earlier mentioned isn't the only pallet project I came upon. Look at this adorable DIY Wooden Pallet Toddler Bed that Lori Danelle breaks down step by step for you and all for under $100. Are you loving these wooden pallet ideas as much as I am?

Repurposed Door Turned Toddler Bed

Got any extras doors laying around? Probably not, but if you did you could make one of these Repurposed Door Turned Toddler Beds I found over at My Repurposed Life. I would totally paint the door black and the inside sections a dark pink. I told the man I would need to use his saw, but he saws I'm a little too clumsy to be playing with man tools :) Check out a couple quotes I found that you could paint across the headboard, or even above the bed on the wall...

"Prayer is the key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door".

"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door".

No? Too deep for a toddler? You're probably right.

Toddler Sized Upholstered Daybed

I have to admit, I'm not for sure which of these toddler beds is my favorite, but this one is one of the top for sure. I LOVE this bed, and it's pretty much like the first upholstered toddler bed above, but with an upholstered headboard as well. You can find the step by step diy instructions over at Ana White Homemaker.

DIY Kids Corner Pallet Bed

What little kids wouldn't be thrilled to have their own corner spot. This is a great idea also using, yes, you guessed it, wooden pallets. Doesn't seem to difficult to make or very costly. You can see the walk through at Project Nursery.

Fab Rehab Creations DIY Daybed

If I could incorporate the basket storage under this DIY Daybed at Fab Rehab Creations, I would take the idea and merge it with the really cute upholstered toddler bed with the headboard. How cute is this, and this Daybed in particularly could be a great piece even in the living room or the back patio.

While you're over at Fab Rehab Creations be sure to scroll down some so you can check out this awesome reading lounge which could also be used as a toddler bed.

DIY Pallet Reading Bed for a Nursery

I love this Pallet Reading Bed that Ashley shared over at Under the Sycamore. She actually used two of the ideas used in the other beds by using a pallet as the bed frame and an old door as the back. Very cute idea, and you can actually use the slots of the pallet to store small things.

DIY Hanging Day Bed

This is probably more tricky to do than I can handle, but Cheryl Sorg submitted a project at Ana White sharing her great idea to hand her kids' beds from the wall. Both of her children were outgrowing their toddler beds so they made these hanging beds to better accommodate them. Very cute idea I think.

Which is your favorite?

There you have it. 10 DIY Toddler Beds that I would love to make. I really love the upholstered frame and headboard, but would like to find a way to incorporate the basket storage underneath it like a couple of the other beds. What do you think, and which one do you like the best?

I wish I were a kid again so that I could fully enjoy those beds! I'd say the repurposed door bed and the hanging day bed are cool. :)

Those were all very cool, but I love the wooden bed and the door bed. I don't have children, but these are great for those who do! Voted up!!

Holyjeans, I really liked the ideas you have collated. I have 2 favorites - My 1st favorite is the corner bed and my 2nd favorite is the Daybed at Fab Rehab Creations. I think its really cool to incorporate a basket storage under the bed.

Voted up and Sharing!

Lol, I finally found a good stack of pallets and they're in my shed. I am very impatient though, so I'm giving him another couple of weeks before I take over his tools! I bet that will get him out there lol.

SkeetyD on November 17, 2012:

I wouldn't have even tried to use a saw myself! You are really taking DIY all the way. Well done, uh with the hubby assisting :)

Amy D. (author) from Mostly in My Own Little World on November 17, 2012:

Thank you Skeety. I love them all , but my favorite it the daybed with the baskets and that's the one I'm trying to get done for my the hubs won't let me use his saw until he is off work and can help me lol.

SkeetyD on November 17, 2012:

The wooden pallet toddler bed was my favourite because my daughter likes to roll and that bed would be ideal for her with some slight modifications. I loved all the beds though! Really creative and wonderful ideas. Great hub holyjeans. Shared!
