Skippyjon Jones is a Great Kids Book

Skippyjon Jones, written by Judy Schachner, is the first book in a series of books by the same name that feature the mischievous Skippyjon Jones. Skippyjon is a hyperactive Siamese cat with a wild imagination. Since the little kitty's ears are too big for his head, he likes to imagine that he is a Chihuahua instead of a Siamese cat. This incredible imagination and the antics that result drive Skippyjon's mama, Junebug, and his sisters, Ju Ju Bee, Jezebel, and Jillyboo crazy.

What this Skippyjon Jones Book is About

In this particular book, Junebug has had enough of Skippyjon's antics, specifically his insistence that he is a Chihuahua and has sent him to his room. Once in his room, Skippyjon Jones heads to his closet to meet with his imaginary Chihuahua Amigos, The Los Chimichangos. However, Skippyjon's imaginary friends don't call him Skippyjon; instead, his pretend amigos call him El Skippito, the great sword fighter. During the book, El Skippito and the Los Chimichangos take on the villainous bumble-bee to protect their territory.

Why I Love Skippyjon Jones

I bought Skippyjon Jones in 2005 when my daughter was just a toddler. Not only did she love this book, but she also loved all the other Skippyjon Jones books that followed. When I purchased this book for my daughter, it also came with an audio CD that we would often play in the car and her playroom. In the audio version, the narrator uses a Spanish accent as needed in the story. As a result, my daughter would only let me or anyone else who attempted to read the story to her do it with a Spanish accent. If we resisted, she would exclaim that we were doing it wrong. This Skippyjon Jones book is still on my daughter's shelf today, and I hope to read this witty, rhyming book to my grandchildren someday.

How have I not read Skippyjon Jones? It must be my dog Tidbit hiding the cat books from me again! Delightful review! I would be just like your daughter in insisting upon the book being read right, with the accent.
