Poems

The first Poems From The Jersey Shore was meant to be a single edition of an assortment of my poems. I asked people for some suggestions for poem topics. One of the suggestions was to write about my favorite place the boardwalk.

Here in the second edition I have decided to do some beach themed poems.

Under The Boardwalk

My parody of the 1964 Drifters song.

Under the boardwalk that’s where I’ll be

Under the boardwalk to escape the heat

Under the boardwalk, boardwalk, boardwalk

Oh, when I go to the beach, and the suns too hot for my head

And I’m tired of sitting there watching my skin turn all red

I’ll pick up my chair and head across the dry dusty land

To a place I know they’ll be some cool and comfortable sand

Out of the sun

Under the boardwalk that’s where I’ll be

Under the boardwalk to escape the heat

Under the boardwalk, boardwalk, boardwalk

From under the boards everything will go so well

I’ll watch all the people and take in all the smells

Under the boardwalk back from the sea

Under the boardwalk is where you’ll find me

Out of the sun

Under the boardwalk that’s where I’ll be

Under the boardwalk to escape the heat

Under the boardwalk, boardwalk, boardwalk

The Boardwalk Shuffle

Went down to the boardwalk

Sat down of the bench

Tried to relax but couldn’t

Had some cravings to quench

So I jumped up and hollered

I really need to have something to eat

Maybe some pizza and a soda

Then it will be time for some treats

Doing the boardwalk shuffle

Dancin‘ my way along the boards

Seekin’ out what I fancy

Til there is room for no more room

Headed one way then the other

Grabbed a little of this and that

The one thing I didn’t remember

Was where Maruca’s pizza was at

Doing the boardwalk shuffle

Dancin‘ my way along the boards

Seekin’ out what I fancy

Til there is room for no more

Remember Walking in the Sand

Inspired by Remember Waking In the Sand by the Shanghai-Las (1964)

Thinking about the day

When I can make my way

To a place by the sea

It's been a year or so

The last time I could go

And enjoy a day in the sun

It is all I can do

To stop thinking about the day anew

Let me think, let me think

What I can Do

Walking in the Sand

Remember walking in the sand

Remember the ocean's salty breeze

Remember the beach, so inviting

Remember the ocean, so exciting

Remember sitting in my chair

Remember not having a care

Whatever happened to beach I once knew

The times we had as a family

Remember

The Beach - A Didactic Cinquain

Beach

Hot, sandy,

Swimming,

tanning, burning

Ever so breezy

Shore

The Boardwalk - Free Verse

I can’t help but stop

And look in all the shops

on the boardwalk

Down, down, down, I walk along

on the boardwalk

Into each store - the big, the lowly, the minute

The boardwalk doesn’t have to try

to be popular to all

Down, down, down I stroll along

Quickly it goes - the big, the lowly, the minute

Beach may be a retreat

The boardwalk is more sweet

Don’t be upset by the news

Take a stroll up and down

the boardwalk instead
