Mother's Day Poems for Mom

Why poems for Mom on Mother's Day ?

Mother's day is just around the corner (or was when I made this page), and, although it is very important to remember our mothers not only on the holiday set aside to do so, but on every day of the year, we human beings are apt to forget and thus it is good to have one special day to remind us. That's what Anna Jarvis thought when she campaigned for the holiday in 1905. For more on the history of the day, click the link below.

One way of remembering Mom is through poetry and another is through giving her gifts. Of course, you could combine these and give her the gift of a poem, perhaps on a wood or glass plaque or a canvas print , or as watercolor graphics like the one listed below, or even an eCard some of which you can find for free on sites like CrossDaily.com.

Poetry has a special language of its own and poems can more easily convey our deepest feelings than can mere prose many times. Many poems have been written about Mom and for Mother's day. Here's a really really short but pointed one to get things started:

A Mother's Gift (short poem)

A Mother's Gift (short poem)

I'm making this page mainly to display my Mother's Day poem, which God inspired me to write a few years back, entitled "Why I believe in God--My mother's undying love." (Poem #4 below). The poem is a true reflection of my mother's life and love and hopefully of your mother's as well, at least in some degree. At any rate, it may give you a new appreciation for your mother, whether or not she was as great as mine. If I never re-read this poem any other time, I always come back to it the second week of May.

But before you get to my poem, I have included two really short but pointed Mother's Day poems to help set the mood and two somewhat longer but still rather short poems in pictures to set the stage, so to speak. My Mother's Day Poem is Poem #4. I feel it is a fitting climax to all that has gone before. After reading my poem, you can check out some of the links I've listed for still more Mother's day poems and ecards which you can use to send poems, even mine, if you like. Finally please vote in my exit poll.

Enjoy, and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Two short but pointed poems for Mom

Remembering Mom poems #1 (2 short but poignant poems)

1) M - O - T - H - E - R By Howard Johnson (c. 1915)

"M" is for the million things she gave me,

"O" means only that she's growing old,

"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,

"H" is for her heart of purest gold;

"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,

"R" means right, and right she'll always be,

Put them all together, they spell

"MOTHER,"

A word that means the world to me.

2) WONDERFUL MOTHER By Pat O'Reilly

God made a wonderful mother,

A mother who never grows old;

He made her smile of the sunshine,

And He moulded her heart of pure gold;

In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,

In her cheeks fair roses you see;

God made a wonderful mother,

And He gave that dear mother to me.

The plethora of Mother's Day poems: & 2 beautiful ones:

There have been many poems written about mothers and for mothers--so many they could not be listed here.. You can find many collections of such poems on-line and in books stores.. In words that speak to and from the heart, talented writers capture the hopes, pride, and unconditional love that mothers feel for their children.

Yes, the poems written about or for mothers are myriad. I have put two beautiful ones, also beautifully pictured below for your enjoyment and as a sort of prelude to my poem. If you like the second one, you can even give it as a gift to your mom (See directly below it). But before you decide to do so, please check out my poem (#4) which follows.

Remembering Mom Poems #2 - Here is a great and pointed poem I found on the net.: (It sort-of expresses the same thing I tried to convey in mine below)

Remembering Mom Poem #4 (My Mother's Day Poem): WHY I BELIEVE IN GOD: MY MOTHER'S UNDYING LOVE

-- By me (James M. Becher)

As we celebrate on this great day
The wonder that is Mom;
Did you ever stop to ask yourself
From whence her love has come?

I've never seen the red sea part
Or gathered manna from above,
Nor watched a dead man's life re-start
But, I've known the miracle of a mother's undying love.

She gave me everything she had,
And wished to give me more.
She gave herself to meet my needs
And never once got sore.

She tried to teach to me the right
And lead me in His way;
And prayed for me with heartfelt tears
The times I went astray.

O' now I know my God is real.
Christ lives within my heart.
But it was my mother's faithful love
Which gave this faith it's start.

So tell me that there is no God.
I'll ask you very plain:
From what other source 'tis possible
My mother's dear love came?

Let every day be Mother's day And honor her with love;
For surely she's a special gift
Sent down from God above.
