Much may be done in those little shreds and patches of time which every day produces, and which most men throw away.

~ Charles Caleb Colton

Yesterday is a canceled check; tomorrow is a promissory note; today is the only cash you have - so spend it wisely.

~ Kay Lyons

Time is the most valuable coin in your life. You and you alone will determine how that coin will be spent. Be careful that you don't let other people spend it for you.

~ John Dryden

Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.

~ M. Scott Peck

~ Napoleon Hill

He who every morning plans the transaction of the day and follows out the plan, carries a thread that will guide him through the labyrinth of the most busy life.

~ Victor Hugo

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein.

~ Doug Larson

In truth, people can generally make time for what they choose to do; it is not really the time but the will that is lacking.

~ Sir John Lubbock

Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow.

~ Denis Waitley

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

~ Steve Jobs

Plan Ahead To Manage Tasks Better

How often do we think that we haven't got enough time for ourselves and wish for more? Take a step back and look at how you really are spending your time. Is it truly that you cannot make enough 'me time' or that you're simply using up valuable time on things that just aren't all that important?

If you start using a daily planner to manage your day to day tasks and activities, you can improve how you are spending your days and making sure you're getting round to things that you want by scheduling them in.

Just over a year ago, I felt like I had no time to myself. I was busy looking after a husband, young child, elderly parents and pets. I felt stifled and constantly tired. More 'me time' was definitely needed but I didn't know how to get a spare minute to myself. As an experiment, I started to keep track of what I really was doing each and every day. It's true that my day time was busy but I was shocked when I realised how much TV I was watching each evening. I felt so tired after looking after other people all day that I just became like a zombie in front of a screen all evening.

Once I saw what I was doing in black and white - it forced me to make a change. No way did I want to waste hours vegetating in front of a TV every evening. So I quit. Yup, you heard me right. I quit watching TV and suddenly I had hours and hours of time that I had free for me. Time to have indulgent bathtimes, to spend more time on hobbies I enjoy like sewing and baking (extra sessions I enjoy in the Kitchen benefit the whole family) and time to read books and have fun evenings out with female friends too and let my hair down.

Giving up TV was drastic for me - and I'm not suggesting that's what you should do. But you do owe it to yourself to at least be honest about how your time is being sucked up and whether that's how you really want it to be. You've got a choice, after all.

Time goes by so fast, people go in and out of your life. You must never miss the opportunity to tell these people how much they mean to you.

~ Unknown author

Oh! Do not attack me with your watch. A watch is always too fast or too slow. I cannot be dictated to by a watch.

~ Jane Austen

Your friendships are precious. Everything is precious and you don't realize it until, in a heart beat, it can be gone. Your life is precious.

~ Suzan Spadaro

At the end of your life you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child or a parent.

~ Barbara Bush

I value the friend who for me finds time on his calendar, but I cherish the friend who for me does not consult his calendar.

~ Robert Brault

It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

~ John Leonard

Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven't time, and to see takes time - like to have a friend takes time.

~ Georgia O'Keeffe

Hold a friend's hand through times of trial, let her find love through a hug and a smile; But also know when it is time to let go. For each and every one of us must learn to grow

~ Unknown author

I have been with many men approaching death; and not one has ever said, I only regret that I didn't spend more time at the office.

~ Dennis Prager

I would like to be remembered as a man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends, fine family - and I don't think I could ask for anything more than that, actually.

~ Frank Sinatra

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.

~ Dale Carnegie

Your friendships are precious ... and you don't realize it until, in a heart beat, it can be gone.

— Suzan Spadaro

It's normally true that with age comes some useful realisations on how life is. One thing I've learned is just how difficult it can be to make and keep true friends. It can be easy to think you've got loads of friends and that you're surrounded with great people. But when something goes wrong in your life, that's when you'll really discover who your true and loyal friends actually are. Those people are like gold - they're utterly precious.

Without friends, life would be a terrible and lonely experience. You might not be able to catch up with your friends every single week. But do make an effort to show your friends how much they mean to you by sharing some of your time with them. Why not surprise a good friend now by getting in touch? Maybe you haven't seen them for a while. Great friendships are full of laughter and fun - and that's got to be great for you.

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.

~ Henry Van Dyke

Life is short, don't waste time worrying about what people think of you. Hold on to the ones that care, in the end they will be the only ones there.

~ Unknown author

Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savoured.

~ Earl Nightingale

Life is precious and time is a key element. Let's make every moment count and help those who have a greater need than our own.

~ Harmon Killebrew

Life is short and we never have enough time for gladdening the hearts of those who travel the way with us. Oh, be swift to love! Make haste to be kind.

~ Henri Frederic Amiel

Look around you. The trees, flowers, birds, every animal and insect; every living thing. It's miraculous. And it is all going to die. You will too, and so will all of those you love. The time will come when you will have to say good-bye to people. You don't know when. It could be tomorrow or next week. Yet, we live as if it will never happen. We get angry with our children or our partner, then leave for the day or longer, forgetting that if something terrible were to befall them, our last words would have been words of resentment and frustration, not love. And we would have to find a way to live with that.

~ Robert White

Love makes time pass, and time makes love pass.

~ Unknown author

If you aren't good at loving yourself, you will have a difficult time loving anyone, since you'll resent the time and energy you give another person that you aren't even giving to yourself.

~ Barbara De Angelis

Hold on to the ones that care, in the end they will be the only ones there.

Cherish Those Who Love You and be Enriched with What You Receive Back

I don't want to get morbid, but none of us know just how long we have in this life. That makes it even more important that we really do make time for loved ones. Too many times have I seen wonderful couples being torn apart when one of them sadly passes away unexpectedly. It happened to my husband's parents when his Father passed away far too soon, leaving his Mom a lonely widow for over 20 years now. I've seen it happen to my gorgeous sister when her partner died at just 61. That's just no age at all.

You get out of life, what you put into it. That is something I truly believe. If you keep giving, then you will start to receive more too. Give more to your loved one. Give more and you will be rewarded with more. Relationships naturally have ups and downs. Staying strong and giving a relationship your all during a tough time can enrich you and your loving partnership. If you give it your very best shot, even when the chips are down, then you have nothing to feel bad about if it really doesn't work out. Because you simply can't do better than your best!

Don't be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week's value out of a year while another man gets a full year's value out of a week.

~ Charles Richards

To do two things at once is to do neither.

~ Publius Syrus

It's how we spend our time here and now, that really matters. If you are fed up with the way you have come to interact with time, change it.

~ Marcia Wieder

One worthwhile task carried to a successful conclusion is worth half-a-hundred half-finished tasks.

~ Malcolm S. Forbes

Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely.

~ Rodin

Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the only thing he can't afford to lose.

~ Thomas Edison

Those who make the worse use of their time are the first to complain of its shortness.

~ Jean De La Bruyere

If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

~ John Wooden

A year from now you will wish you had started today.

~ Karen Lamb

A man who dares to waste one hour of life has not discovered the value of life.

~ Charles Darwin

The key is in not spending time, but in investing it.

~ Stephen R. Covey

One worthwhile task carried to a successful conclusion is worth half-a-hundred half-finished tasks.

— Malcolm Forbes

It's absolutely true that you can waste time doing a half-baked job or task which doesn't work out and needs doing over OR you can make the time to do the task right the first time and that's all you ever need to do.

In this fast-paced, technology packed lifestyle that so many of us lead, it's understandable that we constantly look for short-cuts. How can we do such-and-such quickly, what's the quickest way from A to B, why not just patch that up instead of fixing it properly? Sometimes it pays to slow down and take your time over something.

When I first started writing online, I felt a pressure to play 'catch-up' with other writers who'd already written hundreds of articles. In my haste to write, I rushed to get articles out there instead of crafting them with love and attention. Those articles were a poor reflection on me. Luckily, I did realize the need to slow down and pour all my focus and enthusiasm into whatever I was writing. And, since then my work has flourished. Life can flourish for you too if you use the same approach.

Your Comments: Have you any Time Themed Quotes to Add or Share?

cmadden on March 06, 2014:

I rather like the Georgia O'Keefe quote. My appreciation of what I see when sketching or painting is so much richer than at other times; this was also true when, as part of a research course in college, I spent many hours watching and taking notes on the behavior of wasps.

I really enjoy reading your lens. Thank you!

Time - intrinsically - is NOT a renewal resource.

To me, no other resource is as valuable as your own time... and mine of course!

(and no one knows - and cannot know - how much has left)

Should I obliged to state which category of people i hate the most, I had no doubt:

Those who make waste your/mine time!

@anonymous: Thank you fancy4u. Yes I'm with you because I don't watch TV either. I do watch movies at the weekends but during the week I have more time for work, family and friends because I'm not glued to a box. It's amazing how much more time I have now. Thanks for your thoughts :)

interesting lens full of good info about making time and motivation. The best thing i ever did was stop watching tv, you wouldn't believe the extra time in the day. Now, i find i can't handle watching network tv at all, everything on it seems like such a waste of time and the commercials seem so mindless to me!

Leah J. Hileman from East Berlin, PA, USA on March 11, 2012:

Terrific! It reminded me of two pieces of literature. One is a Scripture verse from the Holy Bible, and one is a lyric to a Chris Rice song based on that verse. Psalm 90:12 Moses prays, "Teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart." (NRSV) and Rice says, "Teach us to count the days/Teach us to make the days count/Lead us in the better way/Somehow our souls forgot/Life means so much/Life means so much/Life means so much."
