Abandoning our children
So, as we destroy the only island we have in a dark non-communicative firmament, I still find myself saying, to fellow humans and to anything else that might be listening, “Well, not bad considering....”
.....considering we've only been here for about a quarter of a billionth of the planet's existence, and have only really begun to understand ourselves and our predicament in the last couple of hundred trips around the sun, and that nobody anywhere along the line gave us the slightest guidance or advice or even an instruction manual, I think that, apart from a few grotesque "religious" tangents and the exponential growth of latter day corporate greed, amorality, and stupidity, we've done extremely well.
But this cannot be much comfort for our children as we abandon them to their fate, as we leave this physical plane in a state of balance which begins to preclude human life and with it the last vestiges of flickering consciousness.
In fact, there is no comfort we can give them apart from hoping that there is still enough mileage left in the ecosystem to get them to the stage in their lives at which we currently have the privilege of indulging ourselves – a relaxed and natural retirement and death. To these children we can only apologise for having squandered our lives and their chances.
And to those especially nearest and dearest to me,
I can only add
that, if it is ever in any way possible,
I shall be utilising whatever powers I may have at my disposal
to place myself, waiting, on the other side,
to embrace you
with the only thing the indifferent cosmos didn't seem to have bargained for
– infinite and inestimable love.

Ah brother, you write so well. I wish you had a bigger platform so more of us slow to awaken types could feel, share and grow from your wisdom. Great love and appreciation
