Dead Whispers...a Dark Poem

the dead cry

the dead cry

They whisper forever in my ear

Their fingers cold against my face

Filling my heart with twisting fear

As I stumble lost in this dark place

So many voices plead

That I can’t even hear one

Full of painful need

All I can do is run

Blinded by the deep night

I crash and I fall

So far from the safety of the light

That none hear my desperate call

Yet the whispers never cease

Drowning in horror and decay

Lost souls demanding peace

Forcing me to hear all they say

Death filling every sense

Heartbreak, betrayal and pain

Overwhelming my every defence

Forcing themselves into my heart and brain

Soon I cry their tears

Huddled lost in the dark

Absorbed in the pain of lost years

Their memories tearing mine apart

dead-whispersa-dark-poem

In the darkness I die

Claimed by the dead’s cold touch

Awakening to the crows cry

Their all seeing judge

Their pain guiding my steps

Bathing in the phoenix’s fire

I hunt their unpaid debts

Lost in vengeful burning fire

dead-whispersa-dark-poem

And still the dead whisper in my ear

Driving me to the guilty unknown

A living ghost delivering pain and fear

Never to find a peace of my own

I'm am so glad that you enjoyed my dark poem

Fulfilling the desire of the dead for revenge by becoming their supernatural defender is the story behind this one

I don't often explain my poetry as I feel that everyone can interpret poetry differently almost personally

But as I intend to work on this concept a bit more no harm in letting my inspiration fly

So very glad you liked it :)

Your poems sound really goth -- right? I'm not sure what it all means, like for example when you say "Their pain guiding my steps Bathing in the phoenix’s fire I hunt their unpaid debts Lost in vengeful burning fire." The words sound cool but I wish I knew what you were thinking so I could get a feeling for myself!

I like your poems and I really like the fact that writing makes you happy.

As always your words touch my heart and inspire me onwards, your friendship, support and humour has meant a lot to me and I am again blown away by the esteem that you give

Thank you as always my dear friend xx

I so do love this title - it's a title to die for and then your words which follow always inspire the epi-man's dark side. I am looking at a full moon which is now on the wane over the lake and thinking of you and all of the wonderful pieces of writing I've enjoyed from you over the years - so thank you for your friendship and status as a world class esteemed colleague - and like I always say before I leave - you make me want to go away now and write a dark one of my own , lol.

Sending you warm wishes from Colin , Tiffy and Gabriel at lake erie time canada 2:10pm and have you ever seen The Haunting - not the remake but the original and you can find it at you tube - it's in black and white from 1963 and directed by Robert Wise

And sharing with a link on my FB page for everyone to see and read

I do enjoy my dark poetry immensely but even as I wrote this I couldn't deny the pull of a deeper story that I can see effortlessly forming around the character that this poem helped me to create

I am so glad that you spotted that too!

I would love to have a short story again to share with you all :)

Shining Irish Eyes from Upstate, New York on May 21, 2013:

It's been a while since I attempted to do dark poetry. My mood is too upbeat at the moment.;) This does not mean I did not enjoy this poem. Devoured every line. I also feel there is a story plot within the poem that you might like to turn into a horror story, which many of your followers have come to associate "Nighthag" with. Perhaps a Gothic romance with a macabre ending?

It's funny when I first started writing, horror was not the genre I was aiming for, but it is certainly where I end up :)

I am so very glad you liked this xx

Hi KnightOf Tag:

You have evoked a survival theme from my reading of this Hub and so I contribute is an evolving way......

Psss, psss My dream talks to yours

Of knights who are but small but bold

And who have battled fear in moments they dearly hold

Like Aleman and Gallipoli

They sense the living and in there moment they uphold

The spirit of life beyond the moment

To be, or not to be, is like any tormenting moment

A flash of light, a twisted of fate

Heartfelt but just a torment

In the forever pole of adornment

Psss, psss I am not saying , that

In this moment, far from decaying

Love has its moment to be playing

Of kisses bold and emotions gold

Like any solider staying

He/she has the moment playing

Where every universe is saying

Survive this moment and time will tell

Our future …………
