Alyssa is an avid reader, writer, and coffee enthusiast. She loves sharing thoughts, ideas, and creative writings with the world.
Why are introductions the hardest to write? Maybe it's my own personal disdain for a long-winded story when all I want is what I came for, or maybe I've succumbed to the short-attention span syndrome that seems to plague our society nowadays. Don't get me wrong, I love to chat and I have plenty I could say here (all off-topic ideas of course) but that's not what you came here to read.
Basically, like many of you, I've been busy. I'm a planner and I'm working on about 80 projects as I write this. Recently, I sat down to allow my creative voice to take over. Well, she must be on holiday, probably laying in the sand with a large cup of coffee in hand, watching the waves. Doesn't that sound lovely? So my attempts to come up with something coherent for Brenda's creative prompts didn't work. An ice cream sandwich didn't solve the problem, and I ended up moving on to another task.
Then I saw Pamela's ABC Challenge post. It was wonderful to get to know her better and I loved the idea! She challenged all of us to give it a try and I thought, what a perfect solution. I read her friend's post on Medium, clever and hilarious! Let's see if mine measures up.
I'll be writing this as I go along my day, tidying up the house and tackling chores. Won't you join me?
A - Alyssa is my name, but in my almost 35 years on this planet, I've had people spell and pronounce it in a variety of ways. (It's "uh-liss-uh") It always makes me laugh. I just roll with it, unless it's a telemarketer. Then I have plausible deniability. Whenever I meet someone with my name, spelled the same, I instantly want to be friends. Us Alyssas have to stick together.
B - Baking is one of my favorite activities. We purchased a bread machine in January. Life-changing!
C - Crafty is how some people would describe me. I love creating my own decor pieces.
D - Dancing around the house while singing at the top of my lungs is something I do daily, much to the chagrin of my teenager.
E - "Every generation inherits a world it never made; and as it does so, automatically becomes the trustee of that world for those who come after." One of my favorite Kennedy quotes. When I was younger, I would collect quotes; I had a notebook full of them. This one saved me a time or two, and is more relevant today than ever before.
F - Fitness is one of my greatest passions, as many of you already know. I've written countless articles and blog posts sharing tips, tricks, and how-to's. You can follow me on Instagram for daily inspiration and motivation.
G - Gratitude is another. It opened my mind, challenged my perspective, and changed my life.
H - Halloween is my favorite holiday.
I - I might be taking this challenge too seriously. Am I extra?
J - Just received an amazing gift: a sucker on my pineapple plant. By all accounts on the internet, the mother plant was supposed to die after I chopped the pineapple off. No, she's been living her best life since September. Now I have three pineapple plants.
K - Kinda ready for a nap.
L - Life is better with red hair. Trust me, I'm an expert.
M - Making breakfast sandwiches for dinner tonight. Yum!
N - Nothing beats a hot cup of strong coffee.
O - Old is how I feel most days.
P - Pour me another cup of coffee please.
Q - Quiet moments are hard to come by, so I make the most of each one that comes my way.
R - Redecor is one of my favorite games. Have you played?
S - Seriously. That's how I take my coffee, with a side of silence.
T - This writing challenge was more difficult than I first imagined. I thought I'd be done within 20 minutes. Three hours later, I'm still trying to come up with coherent sentences. Also, how do we share YouTube shorts? I made one the other day about my pineapple plant, but the video section here won't recognize the URL. If you know, would you please send me a email?
U - Usually I'm in some form of workout attire, but occasionally I put on real clothes to cosplay as a human.
V - Very is a word I've actively tried to omit from my writing. It's challenging sometimes.
W - Windmill cookies always make me feel nostalgic.
X - Xanthic is an adjective meaning yellowish. Yes, I did search for words that start with X. I try to learn something new each day. Now I need to make sure I'm pronouncing it correctly.
Y - You're never too old is a statement I tell myself when I'm about to perform a fantastical feat, like jumping in leaves, doing cartwheels, or attempting the latest yoga/mobility trend. The consequences of those actions humble me until the next time. It's a vicious cycle.
Z - Zest, life should be full of it.
