Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 9 (friendship)

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

Word Prompts Help Creativity / Week 9 is an article I write weekly. It is to encourage Hubbers to write a poem or a short story using the word prompt provided.

Hopefully this word will inspire your next masterpiece, but the goal is to learn to have a bit of fun while writing.

Difficult to Concentrate

I don't know about the rest of you but after this cold Winter, I'm finding it difficult to concentrate.

I realize some of you are facing Winter now, and I feel for you.

Maybe it's because of Covid-19, I feel so ready to get outside.

I mean, we are used to dealing with the cold chill here in Ohio, but this year since so many things were closed we were really stuck inside watching as the iceberg temperatures fell with nothing much to do.

Except to dig out our vehicles, watch the snow fall and catch a few reruns on television.

So this welcome heat wave with temperatures in the 70's and 80's is a relief. But us Ohioans know it will be short lived for our weather turns like a dime.

We will definitely see frost again before Winter finally departs.

Inspiration

Bill Holland said,

"Inspiration is all around me. My problem is finding/making the time to grasp hold of the inspiration and create with it."

This statement is true for many of us. It's hard juggling all the tasks we have in life to find time to sit idle and be creative.

I often find myself wishing for more hours of the day. But then I'm reminded of that old saying, "Be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it."

My luck those extra hours would lead to more frustration and nothing extra would even get accomplished.

I'm a firm believer that we all need to take a few moments for ourselves.

Maybe with our morning cup of tea or coffee we can reflect on our day ahead.

Just take time to breathe in life's natural beauty.

Then remind yourself everything will get done in due time.

Word Prompt = Friendship

For this week's word prompt I have chosen the word, "Friendship."

I feel this word will create alot of great work.

We all know good friendships are hard to find.

Sometimes we get lucky and those friendships last a lifetime. Other times we drift apart over the years or find out the friendship was actually fake.

Or maybe you have no close friends. You are satisfied with your own company.

So let's begin. Grab those pens and start jotting down a few notes.

Make it cute, serious or funny. Whatever your heart desires.

I can't wait to see this week's outcome.

I no longer have the energy for meaningless friendships, forced interactions, or unnecessary conversations.

Highlights This Week

Wow! I don't know what I was thinking when I tossed the word prompt, " Fairy" out there.

I was even stumped. I could find no words to pen.

That's how I finally came up with my poem, "Magic Words." I figured a little pixie dust could help my writing.

I have posted a link below for those of you who wish to read it.

It seems our Hubbers still enjoy a bit of fantasy. It is evident in everyone's writing. Awesome job!

Afterall, there is no rule that says we still can't feel like kids again. Anything is possible if you believe.

One Hubber, John Hansen, wrote a poem that takes us on a magical journey describing what we would see if we saw the fairies. We can read his poem, "There are Fairies in the Garden", in his series Poems From the Porch.

Just follow the link below.

Ann Carr Hits the Nail on the Head

Ann wrote us an excellent piece of work this week.

She reminds us of Tinkerbell & Peter Pan as she takes us on a journey of what it is like to believe.

Her poem catches the excitement of what it's like to be young. To see and believe anything is possible.

Then she tells us about Sir Author Conan Doyle, author of Shelock Holmes's stories, being duped by photographs of fairies taken by two young girls that turned out to be fake.

Her work continues with short stories about fairy rings, the tooth fairy and fairy lights on the Christmas tree.

This is a must read. The link to her work is below.

Pamela Oglesby - All Things are Possible If We Believe

Pamela Oglesby wrote us some exceptional poems.

Her first one is an acrostic poem that tells us if we believe, the fairy will appear & magic dust is not far behind.

In her other poems she reminds us of the innocence of believing in Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, Cinderella & Snow White. For Fairy tales are true you see if only we believe.

All of her poems tie together with a theme. They remind us all things are possible if only we believe.

I do get it. We all have such busy lives, it's hard to just stop and create.

Have a great day!

Take care.

Bill's words ring true! The hardest part is setting aside time to let the inspiration run free.. at least for me. :) I love these prompts! I admit, fairy was a tough one, but breaking out of the box to explore other forms of poetry can help achieve the whimsical feeling. I hope you are having a lovely week!

John,

As they say, "It's better late than never"

I'm so glad you made it!

Mine is behind schedule also. I'm hoping to finish it today.

We each have something new to add with our own unique style.

I love how this one describes the actions of a true friend.

Accepting you just as you are. Never judging.

Not sugarcoating anything by just saying what you want to hear.

He has your back & holds you to high moral standards.

He won't run and hide when things get tough like those fair weather friends.

A true friend is there beside us even during our up last moment.

Great poetry.

Thank you so much for sharing this inspirational story of friendship with us.

I am so glad you had Avinash as your friend.

Your poem is truly a great piece of writing.

Your words paint a picture of what it feels like when we need a friend.

It displays a desperate time when all hope had vanished then a friend shows you a glimmer of light.

I love how you ended it too.

"True friendship is like that glimmer of light,

never let true friends go out of sight."

Fantastic job!

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 12, 2021:

Misbah,

Thank you for your lovely & kind comments.

They truly warm my heart, especially today when I needed a reminder about true friendship.

You have done an outstanding job on this piece!

I love how you reference friendship like being wrapped up in a cocoon.

This is exactly how it feels. A place where you feel safe and snuggly.

We cross many people in our lifes, but those true friendships are those that stand the test of time.

There are no masks that hide the true being

In love we do find a great friendship who knows us probably better than anyone else.

We witness our friendships helping us through troubled times, allowing us to bloom again. If it were not for them, where would we be?

I often wonder if anyone truly knows how one act of kindness might be someone's life line.

I can truly understand what you mean about our community on Hubpages.

It amazes me how close a friendship can feel as we share words across the universe.

I believe I have met some wonderful people without ever meeting them in person.

Yet I trust their words. I look forward to hearing from them.

The people of Hubpages community have helped to make me a better person.

When I was younger, most of my so called friendships back then were older.

I'm not sure why, but I always got along with them better.

Maybe you are wise before your years. Like me, I was tired of childish games the younger kids played.

I would rather be alone than take part.

Sorry...I am rambling on & it's time to for me to stop.

You work is a wonderful reminder of friendship & how it can even cross the universe.

I'm so glad you decided to bless us with your talent.

Peggy,

Thank you.

I spent a month in Wisconsin many years ago in the month of May.

I was told to bring clothes for cooler temperatures, but while I was there it got extremely hot.

Needless to say, I went out and purchased some shorts & had my Mother Fedex me some other clothes.

This weather has a mind of it's own! At least, up this way.

I'm glad you are enjoying everyone's work.

I just finished reading Manatita's too!

It is excellent.

Take care.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 11, 2021:

Manatita44,

Thank you so much for your lovely compliments and dedicating this one to me.

It has made my day seem much Brighter!

"when friendship becomes the connecting link between two persons, all conflicts are removed and they become one"

I love this! It is so simple yet it fits with all the types of friendship you mentioned.

Animal, Human or Divine.

I love your expression " The blue moon and shooting stars, all merge

In symmetry,"

Each of our hearts beat under the same sky. We behold the same beauty.

Just like in our friendships, we feel this same beauty.

Our hearts unite as one.

The awesomeness & grandeur touches us.

We can hear the angels smiling.

I love the picture for The Silent Friendship. So cute!

You might be writing from inside this week.

Take care and enjoy today.
