Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 33 (Photograph)

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

"Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 33" is an article to help inspire our creativity.

I choose a single word prompt encouaging others to write a poem, a short story, a song or any combination.

The only requirement is to relax and have fun writing.

The Twilight Zone

It seems like I was a part of the twilight zone.

I remember going into the office and even the surgery room, but I can't recall the events afterwards.

Like the nurses taking me for a wheelchair ride out to the car. Nor do I remember the forty minute drive home.

Despite the fact that everyone tells me I was alert and talking, I personally cannot recall any of it.

I'm not even sure how I got into my apartment, but they say I opened the door with my own key.

So like the twilight zone, I was in another dimension.

I wish I knew how it worked, so I could go there until I'm completely healed, but then I would miss out on all the fun.

The intense pain in my jaw, my funny new facial design, and not being able to eat.

Yet, all in all, I'm glad it's over. I was in and out of surgery within an hour.

Everything went well. The first couple of days I thought I was one of the lucky ones.

Then the third day the swelling began and the pain got worse.

Luckily though, I don't look like a chipmunk, since my teeth were on the bottom.

Poetry = Emotions

I believe poetry is the turmoil of emotion that comforts our soul.

It connects us together as one.

It doesn't matter if the words are happy or sad, as long as we write words from the heart.

Like love, it's a universal language that touches each one of us.

We often pen ideas from deep feelings we carry inside.

Sometimes, it's about love and hate. Other times, it's about how we feel as we observe an object.

Like a perfect red rose in our flower bed, or that muscle car going down the road.

When emotional thoughts cross our mind, we jot them down.

Sometimes I think no one else can possibly understand the way I feel, but that's so far from the truth.

If you feel an emotion of have a thought, there are others who feel the exact same way. So go with it. Trust your own perceptions.

Word Prompt = Photograph

This week I've chosen the word "Photograph" for our word prompt.

According to Wikipedia a photograph is A photograph (also known as a photo) is an image created by light falling on a photosensitive surface, usually photographic film or an electronic image sensor, such as a CCD or a CMOS chip. Most photographs are created using a smartphone/camera, which uses a lens to focus the scene's visible wavelengths of light into a reproduction of what the human eye would see. The process and practice of creating such images is called photography.

The first thing I think about when I hear the word "Photograph" is the phrase a picture is worth a thousand words.

Maybe you've had a death in the family or a recent breakup and you're sorting through belongings and come across a box of old photographs.

Or you're taking a stroll in a nearby park or walking in your backyard and decide to snap a few pictures.

Maybe you're attending a concert and want to make a memory album.

Or you're helping a loved one to remember by showing him photographs of people, places, and things he might know.

Maybe you're sitting at home taking a few moments to look over photos on your mobile phone.

You come across those cute little pictures of your furry friends that make your heart melt. Or you see photos of outings you've shared wuth family members and friends.

I'm sure by now, many of you have an idea. If not, be sure to listen to the video below by Nickleback.

Then pick up your pens and jot down a few notes.

"Nickelback ~ Photograph"

When you photograph a face,

You photograph the soul behind it.

Highlights This Week

I've enjoyed reading everyone's work this week.

Fear can cause us to experience many emotions as depicted in the articles this week.

We might be sad, or startled. We might be scared to death to speak in public or frightened of our life partner as we live in an abusive relationship.

Some of us have no fear or we simply choose to face our fear and live each moment like it might be our last.

Take a few moments to read the write-ups listed on the bottom of "Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 32 (Fear)."

Two of our Hubbers wrote about fear in an abusive relationship.

Take a look at Vidya D Sagar's article "Living-in-Fear-when-Protector-turns-Predator-Response-to-Brenda-Arledges-Word-Prompt-Week-32-Fear"

and Pamela Oglesby's article "Fear-Per-Brenda-Arledges-Word-Prompt".

Moments We Fear ~ John Hansen

John Hansen writes us quite an article with several poems and a short story that leaves us hanging.

He tells us we may not like to be scared in real life, but we love how it gets our adrenaline pumping while reading a book or watching a movie.

He tells us how a grasshopper or praying mantis landing on us might make us jump even though we know it cannot hurt us.

In his poem, "What Is Fear?" he leaves us a very good message.

Life is too short to worry about the things we fear.
"Let Go of Fear & Live Your Life"

In "My Phobias" he shows us things that make us afraid like snakes, bugs, spiders and sharks.

In "FEAR ~ an Acrostic Poem" he tells us when we chase after a fobidden treasure with No Fear, our life can become a living hell.

In "The Cavern of All Fears" he shows us how we respond to fear.

When making hard choices in life we must Be Sure, just like the sign in his poem represents after a creepy walk of uncertainty down the stairs.

We have no idea what tomorrow brings or where our steps will lead.

Sometimes it's too late. We've plunged head first and took the bait only to fall down into the darkness, alone & weak.

We are scared as we cry unto the Lord to help protect us. We've made a mistake by opening a door, when we should have ran away.

In "Those Three Words ~ a Micro-Fiction Story" he shows us how fear embraces a man's love life.
He is afraid to show his true emotions, but his lady wants him to be more open.

She wants him to say those three little words that he dreads so much, but the thought of it gives him Fear.

Then he leaves us hanging. He leaves it up to us to decide what the man speaks out loud to her.

If you haven't read John's work, please follow the link below and let him know what response you think the man will speak.

One With No Fear ~ Umesh Chandra Bhatt

Umesh Chandra Bhatt explains what fear is and how it varies from person to person.

Then he shows us a different perspective. A man with no fear.

In his poem, "I do not fear" he tells us that all through his life, since childhood, he was told to have fear, but he didn't see anything that made him afraid.

So if it ever comes his way, he will need to learn to deal with it.

In "Fear - an acrostic poem" he tells us about those who have never experienced fear in their lives.

He includes a video that reminds me we should not fear because God is in control and fights our battles.

Thank you.

Poetry does express our emotions.

I'm feeling so much better. There is still a bit of pain, but each day seems a little bit better.

I do hope photograph will bring in a few good writes.

Take care.

VIDYA D SAGAR on October 06, 2021:

Hi Brenda, photograph is a wonderful word prompt and I imagine there will be interesting responses too. I agree with you that poetry=emotion. It is easier and nicer to portray emotions through poetry. And we are grateful to you for encouraging us to try poetry in it's various forms. I am glad you liked my response to last week's prompt and thanks for sharing the link. Hope you are better after the pain of surgery. Have a great day and week.

Goodluck with all those household chores.

They can be time consuming, but we'd love to hear from you when you get the chance.

The dentist doesn't bother me too much...but I've had my feel of surgeries.

Take care & enjoy each moment.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on October 06, 2021:

Peggy

Thank you.

I've just started eating a little yesterday.

Nothing to crunchy yet...so no to my junk food like potato chips.

But I'm getting there.

Photos are great.

I love looking back and remembering times shared.

Have a great day.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on October 06, 2021:

Bill

I'm sure they would approve of the man you have become.

You are a man with values & principles.

You & Bev have a great life together.

Cherish your memories through all those faded photos.

Don't ever doubt the good you do in this world.

You help people everyday.

Rozlin from UAE on October 06, 2021:

Hi, Brenda. I enjoyed reading your hub with a new word prompt. I'm glad you had your surgery done. One needs a lots of courage to face the dentist. Its not so easy. These days I'm busy with some household work so won't be able to write anything. It's true, poetry is equal to emotions. It works with me. From the time I started writing poems, I am just loving it. I feel good after pouring my heart into words.

You take care of yourself. Have a great day.

Blessings and love always!

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on October 06, 2021:

I hope the swelling after your surgery has subsided and you are able to eat more solid food again.

Your word prompts always get some good responses. I can relate to what Bill wrote about family members being gone and looking at those old photos which revive memories. As a bit of a shutterbug, I have always loved taking photos. There should be some good articles coming from this prompt.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on October 06, 2021:

Faded photographs fill me with sweet melancholy. I miss my family, all gone, and most of the photos I have are of them, reminding me that I am now the lantern carrier for the Holland family, and what would they think of that, would they approve, or did I let them down in some way.

Anyway, looking forward to the responses.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on October 06, 2021:

Pamela

Thank you.

I'm glad it's behind me too. Each day I feel a little bit better & I've finally started to eat something besides soft food.

Still nothing too crunchy or hard, but a little bit is better than nothing.

I'm happy to see that you are doing well too.

I think they gave me a few things..I had an IV & also a mask over my nose & mouth when I last remember.

I'm hoping this week will bring a few great responses.

Have a great week.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on October 06, 2021:

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on October 06, 2021:

I am glad you have that surgery behind you. At least now you will heal and time takes care of that. As for the lack of memory, they must have at least given you something to relax you. At least that is what it sounds like.

I enjoyed your article, and I agree there were several interesting responses about the prompt. 'fears'. I think #33 will also give us some interesting responses to read.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Rebels. on October 06, 2021:

Thank you for another great word prompt, Bredz. The word photograph has the ability to trigger a great deal of creativity. "Poetry=emotions" it's so true and I enjoyed reading your thoughts on it. I agree that it brings us all together as one. Everything you wrote was enjoyable to read. Thank you for sharing. Take care and stay well.
