Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 29 (Freedom)

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

"Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 29" is an article to help inspire our creativity.

I choose a single word prompt encouaging others to write a poem, a short story, a song or any combination.

The only requirement is to relax and have fun writing.

Football Time

Football season is finally here and there's nothing better than tailgating at home watching the game on the television.

I love fixing snacks to munch on at halftime. I usually prepare everything ahead of time, so I don't have to miss the big game.

I am a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, but I do enjoy watching the other college football games too and I even watch the NFL.

After last season was hit so hard with Covid-19, I'm really looking forward to this season.

Who knows, maybe we can play all the games scheduled this year.

Tiny Moments

We can find inspiration almost everywhere. We can be reading a newspaper or listening to the news on television.

Maybe we're watching a movie or listening to a song on the radio.

Or we make a trip to the grocery store and observe a small child crying in the store or having tantrum of some kind.

Perhaps you see someone laughing or a couple walking hand in hand.

Or you smell the aroma of Sunday dinner coming from the kitchen.

The point here is that even the tiniest moments can give us ideas to write a short story or a poem.

We can draw emotions and expand anything into a fantastic piece of work.

Word Prompt = Freedom

This week I've chosen the word prompt "Freedom."

This is the ability to speak, act, or think as one wants too without worrying about being constrained or restricted.

It can also mean liberation from slavery or other forms of power.

Maybe you finally feel free after a long struggle with an addiction or a relationship that has been weighing you down.

You finally find your independence after suffering years of abuse from a person who is controlling.

It could be religious freedom or the right to speak freely.

Maybe you have a sense of independence or a proud feeling for those who sacrifice so much to protect us from harm.

Maybe it's the freedom to report the news or gain an education.

Or the freedom to choose your own path in life.

I'm sure there are a lot of ideas that can be conjured up from this word, so let's pick up those pens and jot down a few lines.

In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved.

— Franklin D. Roosevelt

Highlights This Week

Wow! This week's word prompt, "Stars" brought in a lot of fantastic work.

We had two fabulous stories by Pamela Olgesby and Ravi Rajan.

Pamela's story teaches us that we are all stars and each one of us plays a unique role.

Ravi's story proves that the stars of astrology are not always correct.

Brittany Benko joined us for the first time. She has written us a poem and a sonnet.

She shows us how the stars shine brightly granting wishes to those who ask & how delicately the stars caress us.

Her words are fantastic and flow naturally. To read her work follow the link below. You won't be disappointed.

Nithya Venkat has written us a couple of awesome poems, "You Are A Star - Shine Bright" & "I Wish Upon A Star."

The first one tells us we all have a star shining inside of us.

The second one is absolutely amazing. It tells us how we long to hear our Mother's voice singing us a lullaby.

Manatita44's Journey

Manatita44 writes a lovely tribute to me about the word prompt, "Stars."

He tells us life has detours, but nothing can take those joyous moments of childhood away where we learn to let our souls be free.

With just a touch, we can make anything seem wonderous.

We learn so many lessons by listening to others tell us stories. We carry them deep inside our hearts as we get older.

In his poem, "Healing Stars" he shows us that no matter what happens on earth, we have a light inside of us that always shines.

We can bask in it's glory and not worry if we have victory or defeat.

This light will chase away the shadows & leave your soul feeling peaceful.

In his story, "Andromeda Healing Stars" he takes us on a journey of his life as he remembers his home land.

He shows us the people he meets along the way & the influences they bring into his life.

He tells us he has fallen many times but God is good & life is simply beautiful.

His favorite hobby was star-gazing. He loved to glance up at the perennial heavens.

It was as though he created a movie with himself playing the starring role, enjoying each blissful moment.

As he has grown up his life faces new challenges which take him on a different path, but there are times his mind drifts back and remembers those sweet moments.

He paints such a peaceful & beautiful journey with his words showing us his childhood was a time of magic. He basked in the fun of each exciting moment.

Janis Leslie Evans ~ Catch A Falling Star

Janis Leslie Evans writes about Falling Stars.

Her poem, "Falling Star" shows us how one wishes upon a star shining bright in the sky with arms outstretched to catch it when it falls.

She tells us they bring hope to the dreams we formed at an early age.

When you catch a shooting star your dreams are brought into your life.

Then she talks about how this streak of light, known as a fallen star, has different meanings in other cultures.

In her poetry, she talks about the hopeful side of a fallen star and the sense of God's promise.

This prompt and all other prompts. I can't always do them because of the time of year (lots of tomatoes, cukes and zukes). Still, I look forward to minutes, hours and days when I can sit and work on ideas that come from the prompts you put out there so selflessly each week. We appreciate you. I know I do, anyway.

Bill

You are right.

We've heard alot about personal freedoms lately.

I wasn't thinking about that when I chose this word prompt.

I was leaning more towards 9-11 & the freedom we have here in the United States.

I'm glad to see you enjoy Football too.

I do dabble in a few free bets, so I'll keep those Seahawks in mind.

Have a great day.

It sounds like you have an idea in mind.

I enjoyed that video also. It has a lot of different ideas.

I've never thought of Freedom as a pathway of fire.

Take care.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on September 08, 2021:

Freedom brings up all sorts of thoughts. For those of us living in Texas, some freedoms that we took for granted seem to be disappearing with the stroke of a pen. It is making political news on a national scale. That is where my mind went, and from what Bill wrote, he must be having similar thoughts.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on September 08, 2021:

It should be interesting. Here in the U.S. it seems like it's been a summer of people howling about their personal freedoms being stripped away by various governments. Make me want to never hear the word again but, of course, all things much pass, and my peace of mind will be restored once again.

Go Seahawks! I had to throw that in.

Dora Weithers on September 08, 2021:

Brenda, you're quite an inspiration on HubPages. Already this morning, I've read some beautiful poetry on the theme of freedom. My muse seldom leads me to poetry, but I can hear her whispering to me to try. Meanwhile, I must let you that I enjoy your work, and admire your influence and creativity. .

manatita44 from london on September 08, 2021:

This Freedom video has a lot of useful thoughts and the prompt itself, is a great one. I knew stars would be popular and yes, they are so soothing! Freedom reminds me of fire. We are beautiful vases, but before we get there, first the Weaver, sculptor are Alchemist need to re-fashion us. So Freedom, as opposed to stars, is the path of fire.

Thanks for the 'shout' and yes, some great shares. I still have a few to read. Peace.
