Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 27 (Summer)

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 27 is an article I write each week to inspire our creativity.

I choose a single word prompt encouaging others to write a poem, a short story, a song or any combination.

The only requirement is to relax and have fun writing.

Dog Days of Summer

This week is quite a scorcher in my little piece of the world. The temperature is in the 90's. It's hot and humid with little to no sign of rain.

The air conditioners are running, some are freezing up. Trust me, they don't toss out cold air when they freeze up, but it happens on really humid days.

I looked up the Dog Days of Summer on my mobile phone. It states it started on Saturday, July 3 and ended on Wednesday, August 11 in the United States.

I hate to tell them, but it's now August 25 and these "Dog Days" are going strong.

Inspiration

The best source of inspiration is to simply read as much as you can.

Oftentimes this gives you a spark to get started or sends your muse an idea.

When you get a thought, jot it down. You never know where that one small notion might take you.

Try to write at the same time everyday to get used to a routine. I know there are times this is nearly impossible as we struggle with the interruptions of daily life.

If you encounter a roadblock where the words just won't flow, take a break. Go for a walk. Listen to some music. Do something you enjoy.

Take the time to let your spirit get rejuvenated.

You will be amazed at the progress you make when you try to write the next time.

Word Prompt = Summer

This week I've chosen the word, "Summer."

Summer is one of our four seasons. It comes after Spring and before Autumn.

Scroll to Continue

It's usually the hottest time of the year.

Maybe it's a poem about the "Dog Days of Summer" when the weather is extremely hot and humid.

Or how we picture barbecues in the back yard, laughing with friends, or frolicking in the water.

It might be a time when we sit on our patios enjoying the summer breeze or beneath the night sky.

Or a cute story about the cost of electricity to use our air conditioning.

There might be times when the air conditioner is on the blink, and we resort to other manners of staying cool.

Maybe it's a special moment or vacation you shared over the summer.

Or how summer makes you feel inside.

I'm certain we can create some magical stories with this word, so turn your muse loose and be creative.

Let's pick up our pens and jot down a few notes.

Highlights This Week

This week we have learned alot of values regarding the word lesson.

Rosina Khan writes us a few stories on following Aesop Fables.

She teaches us the morals of being slow & steady to win the race and never give up ~ keep trying.

To read Rosina's work, follow the link below.

Vidya D Sagar shows us the importance of passing down good values, discipline & respect.

We learn by observing others, listening to stories, reading Biblical scriptures and experiencing life first hand.

She tells us we should start our day with a positive outlook & keep negativity away.

Chitrangada Sharan Teaches Us Strength

Chitrangada Sharan teaches us a valuable lesson in her poem, "Lessons From The Wildflower."

She tells us we can be strong & endure life just like the wildflower.

That we don't need to be perfect to have confidence and be happy.

As we face struggles in life we can become stronger.

We should never give up. We should face each moment with determination and stand tall.

Pamela Oglesby ~ Life Lessons

Pamela Oglesby tells us "Lessons have many different meanings, but the most obvious are the painful lessons we learn when we make bad choices."

She has written a Sonnet inspired by Manatita about lessons one learns in life.

She paints us a picture of a doggie slipping out an open door as someone chases after him forgetting his shoes.

Then a student cheating by writing the answers on her hand.

She tells us we lose friends by betraying them with gossip, lies & cheating. She says maturity takes time & we need to grow up while we still can.

In her acrostic poem she tells us how a simple gesture like a smile goes a long way.
Once you learn it, there is no going back.

In her poem, "Confused Boy" she tells us a story about a little boy who copies the actions of others as trying to fit in.

He has no guidance from his parents and his school work seems hard. Then a coach shows him some attention.

The little boy suddenly feels successful and his grades improve.

Her story reminds us that one act of kindness can help another. We should reach out.

Vidya

Thank you.

I love the summer months, but those 90+ degree days straight in a row get a bit hot.

It's 80 degrees right now so this afternoon will probably be a warm one, but it beats shovelling snow any day.

The sunshine keeps me in a good mood.

Take care.

I'm glad you got air conditioning.

I do too! But when I have to go somewhere the heat in my car is double hot until the air gets it cooled down.

I can't wait to read your work if you get inspired.

Looks like we might get a storm here in a little bit.

Have a great day gal.

Misbah Sheikh on August 25, 2021:

Bredz, summer is a good prompt. But it always makes me think of sweat. Do you have any tissues? I'll be able to write about it while sitting in an air-conditioned room. Lol!

Blessings and Lots of Love to you :)
