Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 24 (Letter)

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 24 is an article to help inspire our creativity.

I choose a single word prompt encouaging others to write a poem, a short story, a song or any combination.

The only requirement is to relax and have fun writing.

Does the Universe Talk to Us?

Do you ever think the universe is trying to tell you something?

It seems like each day when I walk out my front door, it talks to me.

I can be hours away from my hometown when I run into a familiar face.

Or I can be staring at my phone, when words from a poem or short story reach out to me with a meaning I needed to hear at that very moment.

It’s like there is guidance along life’s journey lurking around each corner.

All we have to do is pay attention.

You are an Inspiration

I want each and everyone of you to realize you are an inspiration to others.

Each word you write touches someone in a unique way.

So it’s important to keep your muse inspired to keep this connection on track.

First, find a location where you feel comfortable writing. A place where your words seem to flow naturally.

Somewhere with no distractions.

I know it’s often hard to keep distractions away in this fast paced world of ours, but do your best.

Discover what atmosphere your muse enjoys the best.

Maybe it’s in complete silence, or with a television playing in the background.

If you get into a slump, change your routine up a bit.

Go for a walk. Take a jog. Play with your kitty-cats or doggies.

Have an outing with your children or grandchildren. Visit a neighbor or a friend you haven’t seen for awhile.

Listen to music. Watch a video or a television show.

The point here is to relax your mind. Let it breathe in a sense of anything normal.

This will give you a new prospective and make you feel refreshed.

Word Prompt = Letter

This week I've chosen the word "Letter" to be our word prompt.

This has alot of different angles.

Maybe it's a love letter, a Dear John letter or a Thank You note.

Or about receiving a letter from home while away.

It could be about receiving a Rejection or Acceptance Letter on your latest submission.

Maybe it's a letter you received in high school like an Academic Achievement or a Varsity Letter.

It might be the most recent grade you received in your class studies.

Or a Monogram Letter with your name or initials.

Maybe you are teaching your children or grandchildren to learn the 26 letters of the Alphabet using learning blocks with letters on each side.

Let your muse be the judge. I'm sure this one will bring out a few interesting stories.

So pick up those pens and jot down a few lines.

Letter writing is the only device for combining solitude with good company.

Featured Writers this Week

This week we had a variety of pieces submitted. Each one was a delight to read.

Our two featured writers are:

Manatita44 who made us laugh with his poem about a bar of soap & at the same time he left us with words of wisdom about how laughter is good for one's soul.

Pamela Oglesby who reminds us we need to get a new prospective & look at life like children. We need to laugh as spontaneous as a child.

You can find the links to their articles below each highlighted section.

Other Hubbers Inspiration

Each one of these Hubbers is inspirational. I hope you'll take a few moments to read their work.

Rosina S Khan shared an ebook, "Blissful Moments of Laughter" that she has written.

This book is about moments that will make you laugh.

Ravi Rajan wrote us some comical Haikus. Each one is excellent and will give you a chuckle.

Chitrangada Sharan reminds us that laughter is a universal language we all understand.

It has the power to heal us.

Chrish Canosa shows us that even amidst a struggle her spirit can take time to laugh. Reminding us how laughter can make anything better.

Brenda Arledge reminds us that laughter is the best medicine & we shouldn't take life so seriously. Even Kitty-cats know how to laugh.

Please join me in reading all of them by following the links below.

Manatita44 Rolls Us In Laughter

In the beginning of his article he give us wisdom from Sri Chinmoy ~ if we laugh at our own mistakes it helps with our spiritual journey.

Then he gives us a quote by Karl Barth.

"Laughter is the closest thing to the grace of God" ~ Karl Barth

In his poem, "Laughter" he tells us how laughter can erase our mistakes, ease our fears and loneliness bringing us closer to the light of love.

Then he mentions several different aspects of comedy like comedians or movies that make us laugh.

Like "Blazing Saddles" "Pryor", "Chaplin", and "Eddie Murphy" to name a few.

Each one of these helps the cobwebs of life to disappear with laughter.

Laughter fills our hearts & eases our restless minds.

When we laugh we cleanse our soul so we can touch the light of God for we see the light from heaven touch our soul.

He included comedian, Robin Williams, who was very funny in his day Especially in the movie "Goodmorning Vietnam."

He has a quote that shows us no one can have too many hugs or laughs.

You will love his poem, "More Laughter: My Bath-soap Virtues."

It definitely made me laugh.

Just picture a bar of soap talking to you. It's hilarious!

His quote by John Cleese ~ laughter does connect people together.

Then he ends his article with a few wise words by Sri Chinmoy.

We should all smile for it reduces the tension in our minds & let's us become friends with our inner soul.

Pamela Oglesby Reminds Us to Laugh like a Child

Pamela starts her article with a quote:

A day without laughter is a day wasted" ~ Charlie Chaplin.

Then she writes an excellent acrostic poem.

We all help one another giggling with laughter & tears. We feel so good when laughing makes those endorphins flow.

Then she includes a video, "Best Babies Laughing Video Compilation."

It is so sweet. There is nothing better than seeing a baby laugh.

In her poem, "Misery Is Optional" she reminds us that laughter can heal our pain.

When memories weigh us down, or we are stressed facing daily problems we should find a reason to laugh.

It helps us to forget.

No one likes living in misery without laughter.

She reminds us we need to take a walk and change our mindset. To start seeing things through the eyes of a child.

To make a conscious effort by making ourselves smile & change our attitude to happy.

Choose a new lifestyle and live the life you want. Give laughter & kindness a try.

Then she shares this quote:

"Laughter heals all wounds, and that's one thing that everybody shares. No matter what you're going through, it makes you forget about your problems. I think the world should keep laughing."

--Kevin Hart

This is so true. No matter what, laughter helps us to forget our problems.

She ends her article with a video about Laughter Yoga.

I've never heard of it before, but everyone looks like they're having fun.

Hello Brenda!

Loved this article, and the new prompt, letters. I have done articles on this word earlier. But, there are many possibilities, so would try again, as and when it’s possible.

Your inspiration paragraph, is truly inspirational.

I enjoyed reading all the responses. Thank you for mentioning my work, and sharing the link, as well. Much appreciated.

Have a wonderful day.

Lora Hollings on August 04, 2021:

I think that this would be a very good idea, Brenda, especially for those who work full time and those that have very busy schedules. I think some maybe discouraged from participation as they feel that they just don't have sufficient time. I think we could all use some extra time in coming up with quality articles. I know that I could certainly use the extra time!

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on August 04, 2021:

It sounds like you have your hands full.

Too bad about your son's wedding.

I guess he could have a quiet ceremony & a big bash later.

Glad to hear you are getting hot water back.

I know that is a pain to deal without.

Take care & write when you can.

Life has a way of making us take a break now & then.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on August 03, 2021:

"Letters" is a nice prompt, Brenda. But, life is so busy at the moment that I haven't even been able to respond to your last word prompt "laughter" yet.

I have been extremely busy with my freelance writing as well as preparing for my son's wedding on the 7th August ... but which now had to be postponed to October due to new COVID lockdowns. Have been without hot water for two weeks and finally getting a new hot water system installed today..and the list goes on.

I am trying to catch up with my reading of others work on HubPages, but am still a bit behind there as well. Hopefully, I can get something written soon too.

It is not featured yet.

I'm looking into seeing why this is happening, because we want everyone to be able to read each Hubbers excellent work.

I think this one will be an interesting prompt.

Take care

Thanks Brenda for the mention of my eBook on Laughter. The new word prompt is wonderful and you gave various ideas how it could be used in a write-up. Looking forward to the responses. I have already read all the articles on Laughter and had a great time before I retire to sleep. Thank you for the flow of word prompts week after week.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on August 03, 2021:

It is hard to believe it is week 24. Time seems to be flying by, and I think your prompt will result in some very interesting responses. I so appreciate you as another Hubpage author, but more importantly a friend. The relationships we have on Hubpages are important as we sure don't write here for the money. Thanks for your support.
