Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 23 (Laughter)

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 23 is an article to help inspire our creativity.

I choose a single word prompt encouaging others to write a poem, a short story, a song or any combination.

The only requirement is to relax and have fun writing.

Fayette County Ohio Fair

Our County Fair Has Ended

Well another year has come and gone. The 142nd fair for our little county has come to a close.

It was held July 18 ~ July 23, 2021. Only 6 days, but believe me that was plenty.

I actually missed 2 days, but I think my body got more exercise than it has for 2 months.

I posted a small picture above which I took from outside the gate of the fair.

It was a very hot week with very little rainfall. I think attendance might have been a little low this year, but I don't have the figures yet.

I assume a combination of factors like Coronavirus, the price for rides, and the heat played a factor into everyone's decision whether to attend or not.

The grand champion market steer sold for $7,000 at auction. That's a pretty hefty chunk of change to help with college.

I had my fill of goodies. My favorite is always a fresh pork tenderloin sandwich by our local Pork Producers.

My pocket book is a little poorer, but this only comes around once a year, so it's worth it.

Inspiration

Inspiration is a feeling we get that gives us a new creative idea.

We can find it in the tiniest of objects, like listening to a bluebird sing or looking at a rosebud in the early morning before it blooms.

Maybe we see dewdrops on our lawn or flowers. Or watch two squirrels as they play chase up a tree.

Some people only get inspired when they are surrounded by complete quietness. Others prefer a little background noise.

It doesn't matter what your routine is as long as you get inspired to write a few words.

Sometimes I write with the television or radio on for background noise, while other times I find myself in complete solitude.

There's also times I visit a special place outside & my muse just kicks into gear. Good thing I take my phone with me.

Pay attention to the next time your muse gets inspired and test that path out again next time.

See if there is a favorite place you enjoy writing or something special jumpstarts your words.

Word Prompt = Laughter

This week I've chosen the word, "Laughter" to be our word prompt.

Laughter is the sound of merriment.

Sometimes we make this sound because we hear someone say or do something funny.

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear this word is the old saying, "Laughter is the best medicine."

I tend to believe this is a true statement.

Maybe you went to a comedy club or something happened during your day that made you laugh uncontrollably.

I know I've experienced moments when both of us were laughing and each time we looked at one another other we burst out laughing more. We couldn't stop.

Usually it was over something silly, but those moments are precious.

Laughter has a way of making our day seem better. It lightens the mood.

It helps us to relieve stress and tension. It seems to help us get through moments when we really want to cry.

I have no idea where this word will lead us, but let's give it a try.

As usual, I'm certain I will be surprised with your responses.

So let's pick up our pens and jot down a few lines.

You don't stop laughing because you grow older.

You grow older because you stop laughing.

— Maurice Chevalier

Highlights This Week

When I decided on the word prompt last week I totally forgot that our very own Hubber, Bill Holland has written numerous books with the word "Shadow" in their title.

So I've decided to highlight his books this week.

I have started reading the first book & read the summaries for the others.

I encourage you all to find the time to read these books and support our fellow Hubber.

I have placed the links to his books below & if you happen to have Kindle Unlimited you can read a few for free.

Manatita44 Triumphs Over Shadows

Manatita begins his article with a couple of very wise quotes from Sri Chinmoy.

Light will always light up the darkness.

In his poem, "Lustrous Light Triumph Over Shadows, Cantata 1" he shows us one's struggle to overcome the pain that has scarred his heart.

He tries to move forward but his heavy burdens weigh him down.

He falls into the darkness time and time again but picks himself up each time.

His emotions get the best of him leaving him surrounded by those who are lost in the shadows encouraging him to play their games.

When he can see only darkness, he is given a sliver of hope.

But he is too scared to walk a new path and stumbles back into the crowd where everything is familiar.

But the light doesn't give up on him and offers him grace.

This time he follows.

It's like his burdens have been washed away as he leaps over obstacles in his path with ease like someone carried him across the finish line.

His friends in the darkness never speak a word, but he hears the applause of victory from The Seers of Paradise as he feels happiness within his soul.

In his poem, "Shadows Triumph Over Shadows, Cantata 2" you tell us when he sits alone in the silence he has joy in his heart. He senses a strong love surrounding him.

He hears words from the divine in all the beauty that surrounds him.

He has tears of happiness knowing this light will never go dim.

For he was lonely, blinded by the things of the world.

He stumbled through the darkness searching endlessly for a way out.

When he finally sees the lightness, where his soul will remain glowing brightly.

These poems are so very touching.

The words reflect the uphill battle of one's journey to find the path of God.

John Hansen's Shadow Is Friend & Foe

John starts his article with a few picture quotes.

My favorite on is:

"Every person from your past lives as a shadow in your mind. Good or bad, they helped you write the story of your life, and shaped the person you are today." ~ Doe Zantamata.

His poem, "My Shadow Walks Beside Me" shows us how a shadow can be our closest friend.

Even if he disappears at night he's right there to greet us again in the morning light.

It tells us to embrace our shadow.

To be confident knowing we are worthy.

No matter what your shadow fits like a glove with you, so he will never make you fall.

Live life. Be confident. Walk straight & tall letting your shadow walk with you.

In the poem you wrote for a children's book, "The Shadow Wolf ~ a Patrick the Piglet Story" reminded me of when I was a child and we'd sit around listening to someone tell a spooky story on Halloween.

It is very cute story about the farm animals being excited on Halloween.

Patrick the piglet loves to dress up in a costume and yell boo but he's scared of shadows.

He listens to a story told by Cammy the calf which makes him a bit nervous. It's about a shadow wolf.

Patrick tries to face the light so this monster cannot see him.

Patrick hid and jumped out yelling boo to scare a few of the other animals, but he didn't see Cammy the calf.

When suddenly he sees the shadow of a giant wolf on the barn floor and is petrified. He starts to run away, but sees Cammy the calf standing in the bright light.

It seems the wolf was just a myth made up by Cammy. Patrick is no longer afraid as he sneaks up on the calf and yells "Boo!"

Cammy the calf jumps in the air and lets out a "MOOOOO!

In John's link to "Shadowheart" we find a poem for Halloween that starts out nice then turns into a horror story.

He tells us about the "Shadowheart" which evidently lives within each one of us.

He tells us to keep the windows & doors locked and that darkness keeps this creature inside of us at bay.

You see the Shadowheart lives within our own shadow and will slice us up into tiny pieces with his knife.

So don't turn your back & keep a watch on your shadow. Better yet, do everything at night in complete darkness.

For if we stay in the darkness there is no light for our shadow to appear.

If you haven't had the pleasure of reading these pieces, please do so. The link is below.

Your poem, "Shadow or Sunshine " was very good.

I loved it.

Don't worry about how anyone else writes...write your own way & use your own style. You do just fine with your poetry.

I'll see how the first book goes.
