Updated: Word Prompts Help Creativity / Week 17

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

UPDATE : New Word Prompt

"Word Prompts Help Creativity / Week 17 is an article I write each week.

I choose a single word prompt and hope it inspires us to be creative.

You can write whatever you want. It can be a poem, short story, song or any combination.

The only requirement is to relax and have fun while writing.

"How To Overcome Writer's Block Once and For All - Jerry B. Jenkins"

We never realize the value of something in our life until it becomes a memory.

Word Prompt = Memories

I'm back home for now, so I've decided to post a new word prompt.

I've chosen the word "Memories."

Memories impact us all. Some are sad, others are happy, but it's one thing we all have in common.

There are days a memory hits me out of nowhere that makes me laugh, other times they make me sad, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

"Memories are like a buried treasure we hide deep within our soul" ~ Brenda Arledge

I'm not sure what this word can inspire, but let's give it it a try.

Maybe it is a funny trip down memory lane recalling something from your childhood or a tender moment shared between family or friends.

Maybe it's a special moment with our fury friends or just a simple poem descibing the meaning of memories.

You decide. Write a poem, a short story, a song, whatever your muse inspires you to compose.

So pick up those pens and jot down a few notes.

Throwing Caution to The Wind

On June 2, 2021 Ohio's Governor opened the gate. He ended all Covid-19 health orders.

We no longer need to wear a mask if we've been fully vaccinated. Non vaccinated people are still to wear mask indoors.

Business's have the option to still require mask, but they can operate at full capacity.

It feels do good to get those masks off and be able to take an adventure.

We tossed caution to the wind and packed a bag or two.

Inspiration

Finding a way to get inspired is as simple as taking a walk.

If you can't do this, just pay attention to details while you observe everything around you.

The fresh air, the flowers, the little children playing down the street or anything your eyes see.

Take some time to listen to music or walk along a beach.

Right now, I'm sitting on a balcony overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. There is definitely not any lack of inspiration, but I'm not jotting down notes.

I can only hope this inspiration will reappear when I look back at our pictures.

No Word Prompt This Week - I'm On Vacation

I feel really bad that I'm not doing a word prompt this week.

I know everyone looks forward to them and so do I.

Unfortunately, we got a bit of bad news this week and decided to take off on a vacation.

We want to enjoy life while we have this open window from Covid-19.

My phone is having a lot of problems connecting to the internet, at least at this hotel.

Since I'm not sure how long we are going to travel, I've decided to take some time away.

I will be reading and commenting whenever I get a chance.

I will return to these word prompts shortly, but right now I need to focus my attention elsewhere.

I will let you know when I edit this article to include the prompt, so we can start writing again.

Take care and keep writing.

Highlights This Week

The word Fate certainly inspired us to write a variety of different and unique ideas this week.

I enjoyed reading them all.

Pamela Oglesby used superstitions in her first poem.

Like knocking on wood keeps the bad spirits away or walking under a ladder brings us badluck.

She talks about fortune tellers, astrology, and tarot cards

Her acrostic poem reminds us that we should chose wisely.

We can hope for the best, but remember our actions play a big part in the outcome of our fate.

This one is cute and worth the read.

John Hansen's Twist of Fate

John writes us a poem that shows us how we can't out run gfate.

It's a bit out there, but really good.

We can see time spinning backwards. Everything that happens goes back to it's original state.

We can see the vehicle uncrumpling after it crashes & the wood from the tree trunkx going back into the tree.

The hands on one's watch spins backwards.

It starts with the ending & ends up in the beginning.

Not even coffee can keep him awake. But then, after all that he awakes to crashing the car in the morning.

There is no running away from fate.

If you haven't read this awesome poem, take a moment. The link is below.

Misbah Goes Into Detail on Fate

Misbah tells us "The debate concerning fate dates back to the dawn of human consciousness."

It is something beyond our control & is predetermined.

Without believing in God, there is only cause and effect.

You say some believe that people will just sit down and wait for their life to happen. Fate will take care of them, but man is compelled by heart and emotion to seek peace.

A believer is not discouraged by failure, nor will he boast about his accomplishments. He lives up to a moral standard seeing his success as a gift from his creator.

Everyone has a unique destiny and we should follow the direction it leads us.

Our time isn't wasted. There is a reason for each step.

Our creator created us & has the power to determine our destiny. God has a plan for each of us.

When we encounter times of sadness we wonder why God has allowed it.

Then we realize it's a lesson that we can only be learn by going through it. There are times we feel like we can't make it, but we do by trusting in God.

God helps those who help themselves.

"Allah never alters people's conditions until they make an effort to change themselves.”

— Quran (13:11)

He can and often does change our circumstances.

In your poem you show us how we contemplate our purpose in life. What it really means.

This updated word prompt is so interesting to me. A few years back I started a series with the first book being called "Memory Piece."

I have not published the other books yet, but I will be getting back into it soon here if the "creek don't rise and the Lord's willing."

My parent's generation in my community used to say that often. I know what it means now. I might use that in my prompt response!

I didn't see it either.

It is good to have you back. I loved both of your poems, Brenda. Everything you said about memories and not those special moments for granted is so true.

John,

Thank you.

I'm a bit disappointed myself.

I really enjoy writing this article & reading everyone's work.

But his cancer is spreading so we really needed to get away for awhile.

God willing we are going to do this a few times this summer.

I will look forward to reading your work.

I hope to be back soon with more prompts.

Take care.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on June 05, 2021:

I enjoyed reading this, Brenda. A but disappointed not to have another word prompt this week, but that may allow me to concentrate on publishing the next Poems From the Porch which has been languishing. I loved the video on “overoming writer’s block” by Jerry Jenkins. Enjoy your holiday, we all need a break at some stage.
