Word Prompts Help Creativity/ Week 12

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

Word Prompts Help Creativity is an article I write each week.

I toss out a single word for us to use as a starting place to focus our creativity.

We can write a short story, a poem, a song, or anything our muse comes up with for this word.

The important part is to have fun while we are being creative.

"Billy Collins On The Great Poets by Big Think"

Try As We Might

Each day brings us to a new chapter in our lives.

Despite our best efforts there are times we get a knock on the door that stops us in our tracks.

A surprise that needs our immediate attention.

I received one of those today and Lord knows, I don't have the time to deal with it.

But that's life, so I'll be clearing out a few hours of my schedule to take a slight fork in the road.

I've got to learn to love these days. I'm certain there is a purpose lurking in the shadows.

But for now, let's dive into our writing.

Inspiration

Inspiration constantly knocks on my door.

Just glancing outside, something as simple as looking at the sky. It doesn't matter if the sun is shining or it's a gloomy day. The words just start swirling in my head.

But I'm usually not prepared. Meaning those words disappear into thin air.

It's difficult to be a writer. Always having those thoughts hit you at the most inappropriate times.

Let's face it. People who do not write don't understand the need for us to start jotting down words when we are with them.

So there are going to be moments when our thoughts are lost. It can't be helped, so don't beat yourself up over it.

You are a writer. More words will come to light.

Word Prompt = Today

This week the word prompt I have chosen is "Today."

We have already written about yesterday and tomorrow, so why not "Today"?

I think this prompt will prove to have quite a variety.

Maybe today is the first day of the rest of your life like the video below by John Denver.

Or maybe you are living life one day at a time, so "Today" is what counts.

Maybe you take a stroll out in your garden. You describe the senses or the feelings you have "Today."

Or maybe "Today" is simply the day in between yesterday and tomorrow.

So let's begin. Let your thoughts go wild.

I can't wait to read everyone's work.

If you fell down yesterday,

stand up today.

— H.G. Wells

"Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of My Life" by John Denver

Highlights This Week

This week the outpouring of ideas on proof has been outstanding! There have been so many wonderful writes.

We have everything from the proof is in the pudding to extraterrestrials. From God to throwing caution to the wind.

Pamela Oglesby, Tobe (Tobz) Dike, and Greg Cain have all wriiten poetry that includes just about every kind of proof one can imagine.

EK Jadoon's poetry shows us proof of happiness is with our smile like a diamond, pearl, or some precious stone is the beauty of the sea.

Alyssa Nichol always thinks outside of the box when it comes to her words. Her poems never disappoint.

In her poem this week she makes us wonder if we want to throw caution to the wind to follow our dreams.

I have put a link to her poem below if you want to read it.

I could go on an on but I need to finish this article. Let me just say we have some fabulous poetry this week.

Keep up the great work.

I am happy to see a few new faces as well.

John Hansen's Muse Strikes Again!

John has brought us quite a witty and entertaining piece of writing this week.

His poem is titled, "Proof of Prior Learning ~ a Poem."

It displays a portrait of learning from everyday life.

There's really no better proof of learning than from the school of hard knocks. In his humorous poem, John shows us about the school of life.

He definitely delivers his message in a cute way.

If you have not read this one, please take the time to do so. The link is below.

Ravi Rajan Proves the Truth Can Make a Difference

Ravi Rajan has written us an acrostic poem,

"Truth Always Prevails" which tells a true story of journalist who exposes a corrupt system even though he was threatened for unveiling it.

He tells of the hardships his family went through along this journey while the corrupt ones attempted to bring him down or quiet his pen.

Yet he stayed the course and revealed the corruption within the system bringing forth a new order with better ethics.

He is now a hero in the eyes of the people.

This poem shows how the pen is mightier than the sword.

Ravi paints a clear perfect for us to follow from the beginning to the end. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading it, the link is below.

Bobbi,

Do check back.

Awe...those kitty cats love to bring momma gifts.

I've seen several over the years.

Everything from a praying mantis to a live mouse. (He let it go inside the house)

Oh...I almost forgot the live bird. That one was fun!

I wonder what you will get.

Barbara Purvis Hunter from Florida on May 07, 2021:

Brenda,

WOW! This is great and I will check back after Mother's Day to find out the Word on Week 13.

You really gave me something to think about.

Happy Mother's Day---I am a mother to my kitty cat Baby and I wonder what he will get me? Hopefully not a mouse or a lizard.

Until Later,

Writing poetry is not too difficult.

Just let your thoughts flow onto the paper.

Listen to those inner words that just pop into your mind.

Jot them down.

Sometimes they come out scrambled, but you can arrange them later.

Describe your feelings so others can picture what you are feeling.

Love to see what you come up with...take care.
