Why the Butterfly for the Avatar?
People have asked me, why the butterfly? I chose the butterfly to represent for several reasons.
Symbolic in so many ways, the butterfly represents new life.
In freedom, they float through the winds, softly touching the things of this life, making their mark on the world.
With grace and beauty, soft and peaceful, the butterfly captures my attention.
A butterfly’s life is short lived however only lasting a season, but during that time it transforms.
Just as the seasons of life, we are evolving and changing.
And a Butterfly is born.
Butterflies of Spring
Evolution of a Butterfly
For the butterfly, life develops. From a caterpillar, crawling around inch by inch; they do not get very far.
Just as in life, we do what we can to survive. Moving along to get to where we are going, we don’t see much past our own existence.
The world is a big place. In the life of a caterpillar that little world is just enough.
Then the time comes when a transformation must take place. Left as a caterpillar, it would dry up and not take form.
Finding a good place to settle in, the caterpillar finds the best spot. A leaf on that old maple tree, perhaps, a little corner on the wall, maybe, the caterpillar picks the perfect spot. It takes rest. We take rest, we wait a little while for the sufferings to end.
Through its own making the caterpillar spins a web of cocoon to protect him and a shelter him against the elements. Then it waits.
Covered and sheltered by the world, the caterpillar waits. Just as in life, we hide from those elements that will cause us harm. Fight or flight is our safety net. Creating an atmosphere of protection to shield us from the wounds of life, we are transforming.
Living on the ground inching through life and yet still to be transformed.
Changing into a new creature, beginning a new life, a garden-fresh season in which to live. When the butterfly reenters the world, it can undoubtedly fly. With a flutter so graceful it sails in the winds.
The butterfly symbolizes a certain freedom. Independent from restrictions, worries, and the slow moving paces of the caterpillar, the butterfly stretches their wings and takes flight.
Carrying itself along life’s paths traveling to certain destinies, the butterfly is graceful and in peace. After living a life as a caterpillar, it becomes something so wonderfully beautiful.
No longer traveling inch by inch, little by little, now it can take flight and swiftly glide to the next destination.
We can learn from the simplicity of this. That our lives are predestined.
In our old ways, we travel along little by little and make no difference at all. Or we can choose to unwrap ourselves and move beyond our comfort zones.
Taking flight into a new journey, down a different path.
Essence of Butterflies
Butterflies are Inspirational
The butterfly represents change. In due season, we become transformed.
Life is more than what we see on the ground. If we take flight and glide through the wondrous lands we will see the awestruck beauty that is all around us.
Living carefree without worries after a long cessation renews the spirit.
Taking flight to touch the lives around us, a transition takes place.
The evolution of a butterfly is amazing. Gradually developing into something far better than where it came from, the butterfly represents alterations.
Breathing inspiration into my soul, the change is poised. Ready to move, suspended in air, the motion of a butterfly is self-assured and calm.
Have you ever had a butterfly land against you? With a light touch so gentle that you barely felt it. Having an effect on somebody with a level of approach to sense that touch of approval is tender like that.
Appreciating the beauty that captures my spirit to be free. The butterfly connects the transformation.
Approaching an amazing discovery, I am embarking on a new journey. It’s like being swept up in the presence of angels. I am a new creature.
With a passion to embrace something in life so endearing that it lasts more than a season, it's truly inspiring. The Butterfly represents that to me.
Living in faith every day, my dreams are altering a new reality.
May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun
And find your shoulder to light on,
To bring you luck, happiness and riches
Today, tomorrow and beyond.
Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne
"Just living is not enough," said the butterfly, "one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower." ~Hans Christian Anderson
We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty. ~Maya Angelou
Why the butterfly?
It has marked my season of change.
I only ask to be free. The butterflies are free. ~Charles Dickens

Butterflies are so inspiring and so wonderful to watch i was in my garden moments ago where i have planted flowers for them i have never seen so many little ones. This huge monarch almost knocked me down trying to get to this plant,he and i was so close i could feel the air from his wings. I stood over the plant taking it's picture and recording him, he acted as if I wasn't there. It was an amazing moment to be in his present.Loved It!!!!!

I have actually watched the whole process. In the fall I took a couple of monarch catepillars along with lots of milk weed and put them in a ventilated jar and watched them cocoon and hatch. It really is a beautiful and interesting process.
