And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language: and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which the
During the year, many books are written. Some are written out of the sincere desire to help humanity, while others are written by arrogant and supposedly wise men who seek their own wealth. The books written with cleverly woven plots normally win all the prizes. However, no poignant truth can be found in many of them. They are trees used for mischief and books full of empty pages. These writings lead to endless debates over an author’s intent.
What good is insightful writing if the common man cannot decipher it? A book should be simple and impart virtuous thoughts that ennoble the reader. It should be the flag bearer that invites men to travel a seldom-used path. To those who are ravaged by life’s battles, a book should be a pool of refreshment, an oasis for those seeking truth. The weak should say of it, “The book has risen up as a shielding champion and strengthened our resolve.” Every work should offer joy for sadness, adventure for boredom, and wisdom for ignorance. When the reader’s hope is gone, let the book, like a coach or mentor, inspire him to endure life’s trials.
Unless an author edifies his readers, he has labored in vain. The average writer never discovers this secret. But great writers understand that an idea (thought), powerfully conveyed, has the ability to change the course of history. I pray my own writings are equal to the task. For example, consider the impact that a single idea such as liberty had on our founding fathers. The idea so resonated with the inner depths of their souls that they were willing to put their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor on the line. It ignited a fire that allowed them to prevail against a seemingly invincible adversary because the idea provided the path to follow. It has been said by many, “An idea gives purpose and substance to life because the thoughts that men perform determine the quality of their existence.”
As a vapor, an idea fills the mind and enables the imagination to become the reel that projects visions. Those pictures inspire a person to perform exploits in a dying world and master the unknown. An idea births dreams of developing a cure for a dreaded childhood disease or leading a revolution that overthrows tyranny. As a wise man ponders the thought, a truth engulfs his mind. He discovers that everything he can imagine will become a reality. Knowing that the thoughts that engross his mind and consume his heart guide his destiny, he seeks to meditate on things that bring no reproach. For as a man thinketh so is his existence in the earth (James Allen). Therefore, men everywhere should reject thoughts of transgression that bring a man to ruin and embrace thoughts of virtue that are capable of saving the soul.
