Who Is a good person?

Who do we consider to be a good person? Is it that politician who provided low income housing for thousands of people who couldn’t afford a mortgage? Is it that preacher who gave the homeless man a meal while he was walking? How much good do you have to do to be considered a good person? But does doing a little good make you good? Or is a good person simply born with a good soul? What would happen if a person you believe to be good does a little bad? Is that person still good? Or is she/he crucified for the bad? What about titles? Is a person who is given certain titles a good person, or it is simply a role they play? Let us take a look at the title of Pope. The Pope is considered a good person by millions of people simply because he is the pope and believed to be close to the Messiah in righteousness. Yet on the opposite side, millions believe the Catholics are bad people as they have a lot of bad actions attached to their clergy. Especially with dealing with young children. Let us also take a look at the title of President or Prime Minister. Some people will say their political leader is a good person because he have sent millions of health materials to poor countries, While some would label him a tyrant for bombing poor nations and causing the loss of life of millions.

Does God See a Person as Good or Bad?

Who am I to tell you how God views us. I will only speculate here. I think the Entity God sees all of us the same. No one in his sight is deemed bad and no one deemed good. But the actions of their minds is what is punished or deemed good or evil. I say this because a person who the system deemed to be bad, let us say a man who has committed murder or a woman who has become a prostitute, can be forgiven for their foul actions and receive access to the kingdom of God. Just like how a devoted Christian who is a good person will also receive the same key to the kingdom.

And the thing is, I completely understand this view, it all comes down to the love he has for his creation. It is just like a father having two sons, one who listens to him and he considers to be a good boy, and one who never listens and always gets into trouble. The father will show preference to the good son, but that doesn’t mean he hates the troublesome son. If that troublesome son gives up all his bad behavior and listens to his dad, the same love given to the good son will be given to the troubled son.

Can a Murderer or a Prostitute Be a Good Person?

Can a Murderer Be a Good Person?

Well, a murderer is a good person when you don’t know he/she has committed murder. A murderer can be the nicest person in your community, he can be someone who is cheerful, helpful and is admired by people in the community. Yet will not hesitate to take someone’s life once they are troubled or angered. Is God upset with the person who murdered another? Yes. But does he hate that person? No. That murderer has the potential to have his sins forgiven and deemed a good person, even if society marks that person as a murderer for the rest of his/her life.

Good or Bad?

Good or Bad?

Society has No Clue Who Is a Good Person

Society has put in place laws to maintain order in their own world. But laws are always broken as many people do not recognize the laws or simply got caught up in situations in which they had to break the law. Most times the law breakers are brought in front a judge or jury for sentencing. So let us say Mr. Jones is a considered a good family man. His neighbors look up to him and is considered a stand up guy. One day Mr. Jones gets a call from his son school saying his son has passed out and is rushed to the hospital, right there and then, Mr. Jones rushes out and heads to the hospital to see his son. In his anxiety and rush to see that his son is alright, he runs a red light and slams into a mother and her young daughter in a small van. The daughter died on the spot and Mr. Jones is arrested. He is brought in front the judge on charges of manslaughter.. The mother of the deceased child sees Mr. Jones as a very bad person, she cares not of what his true personality is or that the accident was a terrible mistake. She just knows that her daughter is gone, Mr. Jones is a bad person and must be punished for his actions.

We determine a person good or bad based upon actions vetted out to them or someone they know.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on February 03, 2021:

No, I am not saying they are the same at all. You are right they are all supply and demand based, but if the demand was taken away they would cease to exist too. Drug and arms dealers are certainly bad people, and in fact the pimps are their equivalent, not the prostitute themselves.

"So John, are you saying prostitutes and drug dealers or arm dealers are the same? After all, all three is a supply and demand right?" So is a drug dealer a bad or a good person?

Clive Williams (author) from Jamaica on February 03, 2021:

Males are prostitutes too.

Rodric Anthony Johnson from Surprise, Arizona on February 03, 2021:

Clive, this article confirmed my soul's happiness! We are all relevant and important to the human family no matter what our faith may be or our race may be or any particular aspect about us. It is our sacred opportunity to reach out to each other in friendship and love to prove to our God or gods or others that we can overcome our natures to do things that only benefit ourselves and evolve into the Great Human Beings with divine or transcendent natures. I truly believe that we can all do it with enough time and effort.

My Christain perspective leads me to urge that we all can do it through the teachings of Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice which I assert humbly paid the price for our sins and infirmities. Through Him, there is no reason other than our personal choice, as you indicated here so well, that we cannot all be good people and inherit the kingdom. I invoke a blessing upon you as my spiritual sibling of God to bless you as you have blessed me with this article.

I don't know if a profession, societal outlook or even a crime for that matter makes a person bad. All I know is we're all hypocrites pointing fingers. Cuz those same set of standards never apply on ourselves. Do they?

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on February 02, 2021:

Clive, you provide much food for thought here. I do agree with Flourish though, that prostitutes should not automatically be labelled bad. They usually do the job out of necessity and are only filling a demand. it is those demanding the services who should be judged, of course not all of them are bad either.

FlourishAnyway from USA on February 02, 2021:

I hate it when people try to blame prostitutes as bad without blaming the Johns. Most of those women are broken people, not evil.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on February 02, 2021:

I must agree with Ruby that only God know the heart of man. I know I do not want to be the judge. This is an interesting articler, Clive.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on February 02, 2021:

Clive, only God knows the heart of any man or woman. I am sure the prisons are full of good people who in anger, did something bad. We look up to the man or woman who gives freely of their money to help the poor, and that is good, but is it his good heart or a tax break? You gave us something to think about. Thank you.
