Forever Yours : A Love Poem

You don’t know what it means to me

to be told I’m loved

to be told I’m special

to be told I’m yours.

If there was some way to tell you how I feel

I would let you know in an instant.

I cannot express my love in such a way as this—

It is not possible to speak the truth in such simple words.

The ways you move me, hold me, speak to me…

….love me…

Sustain my heart and give me life.

In the eyes of almost everyone I've ever met is the anticipation of love , and there's not a thing wrong with wanting it forever , Is it elusive ? Yes . Is it unattainable , for some . Is it forever when it's right , not always . But it sure is nice to anticipate , to yearn , to feel. Nice writing .

elijagod from Abuja - Nigeria on May 09, 2014:

That was a plain ,simple, direct and lovely poem.

Great work, Marissa. I love the philosophical possibilities in this line: It is not possible to speak the truth in such simple words.

PeggyW, thank you very much for your kind comment! The picture of the Celtic symbol was handmade by a woman in Ireland on a piece of parchment paper. A good friend of mine who is a professor of British Literature and travels to the United Kingdom every year brought the symbol back for us when we were married. :)

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on February 16, 2012:

I really liked that Celtic symbol for love. Looks like it was on some handmade paper. Nice! Your poem to your husband was sweet. I'll bet that he truly appreciated it. Thanks for sharing it with us as well.

@ ardie - that's a funny story!

Marissa (author) from United States on February 13, 2012:

Ardie, please tell me you hit him over the head with that card! ;) I mean, kudos to him for making the card, but to use it as a reminder for the baseball season? Oy! I hope some day he comes to his senses and take a moment to reflect on why and how he really loves you....that and buys you a truckload of chocolate and roses! :D

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Sondra from Neverland on February 13, 2012:

This was so so sweet! I haven't written a love poem OR gotten one. Sadly my husband wouldn't appreciate a poem and this is the best I've gotten: one year he thought he'd make me a sweet V Day card and told me about it. I was so excited. Turns out he glued baseball cards all over a red piece of folded construction paper and inside he wrote... "Im so glad it's Valentine's Day because that means baseball season is only a few more weeks away." I told him from that moment on he better save his money and just BUY me a card hahah Congrats on a sweet kind of love!

ThePracticalMommy - Marissa, this is so sweet and beautiful. There are never enough words to show the depth of our love - is there? I love the painting your hubby made for you. What a special memento of his love. The scenery looks so romantic and serene!

I've been lucky enough to receive a love poem. It made me feel extra special. I'm sure your hubby will feel the same way about yours.

Thank you for sharing. Have a red hot valentine's day! :)
