The Art of Writing a Novel With the Theme of Love and Adventure

An Air Warrior and devotee of Lord Krishna has published over 120 short stories and 15 books on fiction and 4 on military history.

Writing is an art by itself. Though there are some qualities that are God-given, yet the art of writing can also be developed with due diligence and hard work. This decade has witnessed the maximum number of writers on the world horizon. Many of them concentrate on romantic and love stories, which have a niche of their own. Though many writers may wish to write love stories, yet they may be stuck on the knotty question of how to represent emotions on paper.

A writer must be clear in his mind as to what is his ambition. Do you wish to write articles for money or pass the time? or you wish for permanence in literature? In case your want to earn money quickly there is no better site than 'Blasting You can make thousands of dollars but it's a hard grind and you must fit in the groove. It's not a site that you can just write poems or articles because there are strict parameters and some from hub pages who tried writing on the site floundered. If the aim is just to write and get satisfaction then there are a few sites like Hub pages and ezine articles. Hub pages will let you publish almost anything but don't expect too much in earnings as barely 5% make any substantial amount. But you will have the charm of seeing your work in print and you will always find some members who will write good comments, hence it can be a morale booster.

Rumer Godden wrote, " Thus far and no further." Writing on sites like Hubpages or similar sites can give you satisfaction up to point only, for a more permanent niche you will have to write books; you can choose fiction or non-fiction but remember fiction books sell 3 times more than non-fiction books.

Writing the first book which must be at least 60000 words is difficult but once you finish it and it is published, the charm of writing many articles is not a match. You cannot rest on one book but will have to write more and more and take the cue from famous writers like Erle Stanley Gardner, Hadley Chase, Mickey Spillane, and the Indian writer John Masters. You will find that after the first book the others flow easily; you may also create a character and make him a central piece of your books. Someone like Father Brown or James Bond.

Writing the book

I have had the privilege of having written some 100 romantic tales and thus in my humble way, may be in a position to give some advice in this matter. I have also published 13 books out of which 9 are fiction. I will refer to them than to my non-fiction work, which is basically my forte-military history.

One must distinguish between lewdness and a love story. Pornography is easier to write and the intellect plays very little part in its formulation. In other words, it is a clinical tale devoid of emotion. But love stories differ in the sense that the tale must be infused with emotion that the reader must feel. It should also raise his intellectual level to the sublime. Writing descriptive acts is not a bar for great literature and books like the ones by James Joyce, Henry Miller, DH Lawrence is proof that great literature can also encompass erotic love.

The first ingredient of a love story is the plot. You will first have to put on your thinking cap and visualize the story and its final denouement. You will have to structure the story so that it appears plausible and appeals to the reader. The important thing is to keep your mind uncluttered and free of any thoughts, which could impede your tale. When you have thought out the plot, you will have to dream the actions of the main characters of your story. You will have to let your mind imagine how a lover would respond to a given situation.

Writing a love story is an art and I dare say the age-old adage that practice makes one perfect holds true here. Write the story and re-read it, till you feel that the emotions have been correctly brought out. In addition, try and picture the mind of the reader and how you can engross him. For all said and done the story must appeal to the reader. While writing, sit in an airy room without any distractions. Concentrate on the job at hand. You will need to have a sensitive mind to write touching tales. Do not use hard language and let your pen flow like the soft breeze.

You will find as you continue to write fresh ideas will develop in your brain and you could put them to paper. Make use of your personal love affairs, for, after all, an experience will help to develop your imagination. Being in love is a great filip of your story. Otherwise also try and dream, for that is what love is all about. When you have finished the story, edit it and ask a friend to read it, and ask him or her how it feels. So then, you are on your way. The clue is to dream and imagine and if you can represent it on paper, you are on your way.

Talking of my books the first book 'Romance of the Frontier' was the most difficult but 6 novels after that including the creation of a super spy were easy.

Books must bring out your emotion and thrill the reader. We have writers like Jules Romain and Ian Fleming. Both writers of novels but with a different genre. You will have to decide your forte depending upon your genius. Writing books is a great way to leave your footprints on time. If destiny beckons your books could be read by thousands, even after you are no more. But even otherwise you will have the satisfaction of having published books. It will thrill you when you see them displayed in the bookstall.

You could also write short stories and get them published in book form. Bear in mind to keep the words to at least 50,000 and read O'Henry the master of the short story and think you can better him.

Now when I read my books with my friend Sue, I do feel I could have written better but it's too late to change and one lets it flow like the Ganga. One should make a mental note and get on with the game.
