There is no Mailbag, per se, today, but there is an update on my health, which should satisfy all of you who took the time to reach out, via email, to inquire about my progress. I really have no words for the kindness of you all. It meant a great deal to me.
The operation was a huge success. The doctor saw no structural problems once he had opened me up; the insertion of the new ball and cup went according to plan; and two hours later I was waking up with two good hips rather than just one.
Seven days later I am walking without the support of a cane, and I am pain-free. That is remarkable in my mind. I can’t wrap my brain around how that is even possible, but I’m living proof that it is.
There is no reason, at this point, to expect any problems. Oddly, one of the things that does aggravate the new hip is typing at my desk. That aggravation will go away as I regain flexibility in that new joint, but for now, that really is the only drawback to the recovery period.
And, so, this will be short.
I am very touched that you all care so much about me. I have no words to adequately explain how emotional I became when the emails started pouring in.
The Future of Hp and the Mailbag
I have no idea what’s going on with HP and this ban on comments, but I don’t see any way to continue the Mailbag without interaction from the readers. It’s too bad, but life moves on, and I’m certainly not going to spend too much time weeping over this new curve in the road. Truthfully, I have been thinking about cutting back from HP writing for some time now. Perhaps HP gave me the excuse I was looking for to slowly fade into the background. It’s been one hell of a run, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of my ten plus years on HP, but maybe it is time to wrap it up and move on to other projects I have.
I’ll make that decision at another time. Right now, I just want to heal and get back to my normal active self.
Anyway, from my little corner of the world, to your corner of the world, thank you, thank you, and thank you!
