The Voiceless Song of Love: Short Story - A Humble Offering to Audrey Hunt!

Sean is a teacher who is writing about his spiritual adventures to help other people find balance and self-respect.

Love is the song of the Soul in a world created to dance in its rhythm.

— Sean Dragon

I believe music is a piece of Heaven which we took with us when we left our Home. People who can sing and make your Soul calm are descendants of Angels! That is what Audrey is for me. I admire her, not only for her talent but mostly for her smile, which creates brighter days for others! A human being who had faced pain and loss, in the worst forms, and still can offer Love and smile to the world is an actual gift from God. That's why I am grateful for knowing Audrey, and I can call her my Sister.

This story is a humble "thank you" to her noble Soul! I wish to be worthy! Audrey, I love your luminous Heart! Thank you for being you! Thank you for the smile!

The Story

It was possibly the most extended standing ovation ever! Thousands of people were applauding while they were chanting, "Thaleia!, Thaleia!, Thaleia!". She humbly bowed, over and over again on the stage. Her wonderful concert had offered them another unforgettable evening. The heavenly melody of her voice had filled their souls with peace. Love was flowing from every line of her songs. The way she was singing was carrying this Love to any listener's Soul. She had a magic power to make you want to offer Love. Most of Thaleia's fans did so, following her constant philanthropy activities. These activities and living a humble way of life –despite her world-wide popularity and success– made people love her even more, and the Media calling her "Thaleia of the Poor" or "Mother Teresa of Music"!

When she was twelve, Thaleia won first place in an international song contest for young people. She was already famous. At that time, Thaleia was infected by a rare microbe that had caused a severe problem in her larynx. Despite their attempts, doctors couldn't fight the infection. They announced to the family that there was a high chance of total paralysis of the vocal cords, and permanent loss of her voice. When Thaleia learned it, she said that she would better lose her life, since she could not live without singing.

At that difficult time, for the little singer and her family, there was a person who played a catalytic role for the wonders that would follow in Thaleia's life. She was her beloved aunt, her mother's sister. She took her to the chapel of the hospital and spoke to her:

"My little Thaleia, your talent is a gift from God, and only He can take it back. No germ can resist the healing power of His Love. If you decide to serve this Love with your talent and ask God to help you, then I'm sure you will be cured very soon."

These words changed Thaleia's life forever. She tearfully prayed with all the power of her Soul. She asked God to allow her to serve Love by singing. To give her the strength to try to make the world a little bit better place through her music. She believed that He listened and felt His Love healing her. She continued to pray for days and thank God for this healing and the miracles she knew He would bring to her life.

A few days later, doctors, obviously surprised, told the family that the infection had cleared up! There was no longer any danger for the vocal cords. Thaleia could soon return home, to her usual activities.

Since then, she never left a day without remembering her aunt's words. No day without praying and thanking God for His gifts. She never stopped serving Love through the talent she had been gifted with.

Thaleia had done a lot of daring things in her career. Always in her trying to awaken the consciousness of the "civilized" people, make them see the sufferings of the mistreated and wronged souls of this planet. And she was about to do the next one. Her team and family had tried, in every way, to persuade her not to make this trip. They did anything they could to make her see that it was the most dangerous thing she had done so far. Thaleia, however, told them that she should use the media exposure to show the world the truth of the chaos and the disaster of the war in the Middle East. A war created by the criminal actions of many developed countries' governments. Otherwise, she said, her success would have no value at all.

She had decided to give a free performance for the children of the war. To go right in the heart of the chaos! She believed this action would force all armies to stop the bombing, even temporarily, giving her some valuable time. Thaleia's foundation "Give Peace A Chance" had gathered a large amount of money from donations. It was a philanthropic organization which had helped thousands of children in war zones across the Earth. So, she wanted to take advantage of the cease-fire time to use that money for the purchase of medicines, food and educational material for the children. She was even planning to secure the help of the conflicting armies for building hospitals and schools with that money. Thaleia was living the "madness" of Love as she had promised to Him! Therefore, she could not share the fear of the people who were trying, in their own way, to protect her.

The world was watching the news shocked by the scenes. The image of the beloved singer lying heavily injured in a pool of blood, among hundreds of dead or wounded children, was a shock that the Western world could not easily endure. Thousands of people spontaneously poured out into the streets of the cities, demonstrating for peace. "Stop the war, stop the madness," they shouted. The origin of the bomb that caused the bloodshed had no significance. Anywise, the world would never learn the truth, since none of the recreant and liar politicians and warlords dared to take responsibility. They just blamed each other. People were sick of lies. They wanted to stop the stupidity of war. Their reaction had been effective. Conflicting sides decided to cease fire and start consultations. A big meeting was in preparation.

Thaleia had recovered from the coma and learned what had happened. A fragment of bomb shrapnel had been nailed to her throat, destroying her vocal cords forever. There were other wounds also, all over her body, but they would leave nothing else but permanent scars. An immediate airlift had been set up. Many doctors treated her all the way back home, managing to save her life. At least a part of it. A big piece was lost forever along with her voice. She could not speak anymore. The beloved singer of millions of people would never sing again.

Thaleia was able to stand on her feet and walk again, first time after that fateful day. She had been mourning for the victims and human absurdity from the first moment he learned about the bloodshed. The pain of this sacrifice was mitigated by the news about the world's demonstrations and the truce.

She was standing by the window, in the hospital room, looking at a beautiful park, a sunny day full of colours. She was not sad about her own situation. Strange, but true. Many years ago, the loss of her voice would seem equivalent to the loss of life. But some years now, she had realized that singing was simply a means God had given her to serve Love. Now she knew what the important thing was! The song in service of Love and not the song itself.

For a mysterious reason, Thaleia felt that God would offer her a new way to carry on. Besides, she was proud and happy about everything she had managed to live through her singing talent over the years. Grateful for the love she had given and received from people. Thankful for the miracles she had seen happening. And the most important thing was that she still had her inner voice. The voice in her head! The one with which she had sung all her songs before they were "born" in the world of sounds. So she could keep singing to Him and herself.

"Just the audience I need," she thought and smiled.

These thoughts were interrupted by the voice of the nurse who had come to give her her medication. She turned and saw the familiar face of Mrs Maria, a good-hearted middle-aged nurse, who had treated her with affection and smile all these days. Thaleia noticed a sadness in the nurse's eyes and face that didn't match with her image so far. After taking her medication, she wrote on the notebook she used in order to "talk" with others:

"Are you okay;"

Maria pretended a smile and replied:

"Yes, everything is fine, my dear!"

Thaleia understood that she was lying. She opened her arms and embraced her. Mrs Maria burst into tears and said:

"My little granddaughter... hit by a car... is in critical condition..."

Thaleia hugged her even stronger and unconsciously began singing with her "inner voice" one of her famous songs, speaking for the healing power of Love. She hadn't finished the first verse when Mrs Maria has begun to murmur the same song. Her tears stopped, and her face brightened by the light of hope. She kissed Thaleia tenderly on her cheek, she whispered "thank you for the Light," and went out of the room with a heart full of faith and hope again!

Thaleia stood, staring puzzled. That instant, however, like an epiphany, everything cleared up inside her. She turned back to the window with a broad smile on her face. She realized that nothing is happening by accident, no matter how tragic it may be. Now she knew! She knew she could keep singing in the service of Love but in a new way!

The crucial meeting was about to start. All news channels were broadcasting live. The leaders of the big countries would decide about the future of the war. Despite the pressure of people protesting for peace around the globe, the predictions were not particularly hopeful. With their individual statements in the past days, the leaders showed that they could not put their selfishness and intolerance aside, continuing to blame each other. Experienced political analysts were saying that the war was most likely to start again soon.

The leaders entered the room and took their seats, seemed solemn and haughty. Every one of them was determined to show others who have the upper hand.

Thaleia was sitting in the hospital bed watching the meeting on TV. When all the leaders sat in their seats, she began to sing with her "inner voice" a popular song with lyrics speaking about how Love can bring the world peace and the brotherhood of man. She was singing while she was thinking of the leaders in that room, one by one, sending them the words and the music.

The leaders in the big and stately hall began to sing Thaleia's song. In a low voice, hesitantly and with puzzlement on their eyes, in the beginning! But after a while, as they joined their voices, one by one, in this strange "choir", began singing loudly and with joy the beautiful words. They were really overwhelmed by the song. They felt the meaning of the lyrics to the depth of their hearts. They were embracing each other while they were keeping on singing the song until the end. The people in the hall were applauding. The viewers from every corner of the Earth were cheering with joy! Then an even greater miracle happened! The leaders agreed that the only enemy is war and the only solution is Love!

You see, Love does not need sound to sing to people's souls. You just need to believe that she can sing through every Soul. If only one human has faith, then it's just enough for the miracle to start! And Thaleia was a believer because she always remembered her aunt's words:

"When you serve Love, God will 'perform' the most amazing miracles through you!"

Even silence can become a beautiful song when you fill it with Love.

Ha! Ha! My dear Yves, unfortunately, is pure fiction flowing out of my Love addicted mind! It is the closest to my idea of Audrey I could write. The name of the foundation is taken from a John Lennon's song which had marked my teens. And as Chris "revealed" Thaleia is the name of an ancient Greek Muse of song, music, and dance. Thank you for your lovely comments, I am honoured by your words!

I wish you days full of Love and music!

A remarkable story of sacrifice and love....and very well written, I must say. I tried to find information on the foundation "Give Peace a Chance" as well as info on Thaleia herself, but could find nothing on the web.

Do you have the young lady's full name, first and last? What country is she from? Which war was she singing against? Thanks, Sean.

Ioannis Arvanitis (author) from Greece, Almyros on July 21, 2019:

Chris, my brother, thank you for your kind words, they are significant for me when they are coming from you! I am glad you got my "hint" with the name! I believe that Greek education, like yours, was always a good help for a cultivated person. And yes, there is no loss in Love! And yes, Audrey deserves the best a man can give!

Gratitude and respect!

Chris Mills from Traverse City, MI on July 21, 2019:

Sean, thank you for sharing with us your beautiful offering of love to Audrey. Such sacrifice as this is worth the loss if it leads many to act in practical, meaningful ways. Thaleia, the goddess of song, music, and dance is an appropriate name for your character. Thank you for sharing with us.
