The Tattooed Man

Author:
the-tattooed-man

His eyes
are full of mystery.
He always looks
like he's thinking.
If his thoughts are
running deeply,
I've got every finger crossed
hoping he's plotting on me.

He picks up a tattooed hand
and grips the half full glass of whiskey.
He puts it to his lips,
sips and
runs his other hand
through his head
of dark hair.
It's closely shaven,
just like his beard.

He comes and leaves the bar
around the same time every night.
He doesn't say much.
I saw him fake a smile once.
I look at him and I blush.
I'm curious about his touch,
he seems rough.

He wears designer suits
and hangs the jackets
on the back of his chair.

Today, his white dress shirt
has the sleeves rolled up
meeting his lower elbow.

His tie is gone.

The top two buttons are open.
Through the shirt I can see,
the shapes of the muscles in his arms and chest.

All the skin that's showing
is covered with ink.
I could treat him like a book
and memorize every word.
I wouldn't need to flip any pages.

I would just-

I've got to be his girl.

He looks like a bad man.
I don't give a damn,
he just needs to find out
who I am.

I've never seen a ring
or a woman close by.
A stranger has never
shot my heart to the sky.
He looks like he could be
9 or 10 years my senior,
it doesn't matter.
In my head, I know him.
I've built a character.

They say girls shouldn't
approach guys, but I don't care.
It has been a month.
We've had muted conversations.
I know I can get the job done.

I double fist
two shots,
exhale
and wait for the
courage to kick in.

I need a few minutes...

I play on my phone
and fidget with my earring.
It puts music in my ear,
like a wind chime
during a cool breeze.
I start daydreaming.

"Ok" I tell myself,

"Stop messing around".

I hop down from the bar stool
feeling my buzz,
as my feet hit the ground.

Tonight's mission is to speak.

Tomorrow's purpose
is to read the story
of the tattooed man
from his shoulders
to his abs.

...I love how you write like you're talking - like a poetic monologue if you will - and it's a scene right out of a movie - so you're also writing a poetic narrative too - quite amazing actually because I believed every word you said/wrote - and hubbravo from the epi-man for pulling me in here so convincingly and making me hang on every single beautiful word that you wrote.

@ Vincent Thanks a million for your vote as well! The mystery in a stranger's eyes sometimes makes them even more alluring. I'm glad you liked the poem and could relate.

Very mysterious, isn't it fun to watch a stranger and have the hots for him/her? I have done the same in my time, I wondered at the beauty before me and wondered if I stood a chance, I found out a few times some were pleasant experiences and others were not so. I love your excitement build up. Well done, voted UP.
